      Glad it was helpful! it is quite amazing what you can do with the stash of materials you have...always lots of options. FYI the saran technique works with acrylic paint ( thinned) , watercolor, as well as the inktense I used. K

    These are gorgeous Karen. I truly love them all. If forced to decide I would pick the card with the pink roses with the journal page a very close runner😊 thanks for sharing

    I love the way you made these cards. The stencil butter adds a nice subtle pop of color to the rice paper.

      I found with these cards I didnt really have to do too much...just little bits of texture, color. Simplicity rules. K

    Love it! Random question... can you use rice paper on canvas bags and such?

    • @KarenBurchill
      @KarenBurchill  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never tried....I know people decoupage napkins onto canvas but I am not sure of process or special products needed....K

    I also like HOP YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY or HOPPY BIRTHDAY.🥳Love this tutorial and I was wondering how to use rice paper and what it is. You have so many great design ideas. I think when I get my gel press, that that will help me to create. I think if the printed background is already in place, then I can focus on adding layers. Once I dive in and practice practice practice, the ideas will flow more. I do have some experience from the things that I learned through Karen Campbell's school, but she focussed more on her hamburger method and focusses more on creating a focal image whereas you focus more on creating the background. I find that one of the things that I am missing, are some of the stencils that you use. I have a bunch from Aliexpress and a couple I picked up here and there. I would like to know which 4-5 stencils I could own that I just set out when I work and they become my go to stencils. I see that you have some go to stamps as well and I do have a few of those but not all the same as you-like the dot stamp for example. Is it possible for you to put together a starter list for me? Just a reminder, that I am in Ontario, so I can access the same things as you. I hope it isn't too big an ask. Maybe a video on it?

      Here is a video I did a while back of my top 10 stash builder stencils. th-cam.com/video/UoR1tEGS5VE/w-d-xo.html . Of course I've gotten more stencils since then....I would put Knitted Stitching on the list for sure as well. As always it is a personal choice...K

    WHY DO YOU SWITCH BETWEEN GEL MEDIUM AND MATTE MEDIUM? I Just own the Liquitex Matte Medium, Gloss Medium, Satin and Mod Podge. Would it be beneficial in any way to have the gel?

    • @KarenBurchill
      @KarenBurchill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Matte gel and fluid matt do the same thing basically but the gel medium works better if I am gluing anything that is thicker than just plain copy paper or if there is a lot of texture on the background. You can make the fluid medium work. Of the ones you list I don't use gloss medium much as it may leave a shiny halo unless you cover entire page ( I recently watched a video where I was given a reason I would want to use it...so I will be testing that out soon) I do NOT like mod podge....even the matt version leaves a shiny halo, I dislike the smell and the plastic like feel it gives. I've tried Deco Arts Decoupage...and it is slightly better than mod podge but again not a huge fan.

      Oh with the gel medium you can put it through the stencil and as it is thick can be like modeling paste giving texture but it dries clear so whatever color is under will show through. You can also put in glitter, pigment powders, colorize with inktense or other color medium and then have a sort of stencil butter....hmmm maybe I should do a video on exploring this more. K

      @@KarenBurchill Thank you . I mainly use Mod Podge in combination with Matte medium. The Mod Podge is about two layers in Karen Campbell's Hamburger system. Have you ever seen her Hamburger? It is really cool and you use a collage base, then gesso and acrylic paint, gelatos, pitt pens, Stabilo All Pencil. There are 7 layers in total. I have done many in my art journal and it is a lot of fun.

      @@KarenBurchill Yes, video please then I can see it in action and save for future reference. Great idea! I did just buy some white modelling paste after our last discussion instead of spending on the stencil butter. I just bought the white to start because you said that I can colourize it. I assume that I can add some gold liquitex basics paint on top of the modelling paste. Can I mix the paint in ahead of time and apply it or can I only paint on top of it when it is dry?

    I wonder if you could gesso the back of the non rip napkins from Ninny's?

    • @KarenBurchill
      @KarenBurchill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the tear resistant tissue....yes you can. Regular napkins would fall apart if you painted backside. K

    • @karinswartz3046
      @karinswartz3046 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have the non-rip napkins from Ninny's? Do you make projects with napkins? I have used napkins in about four projects, but mainly as a full background, once on a collage piece with mod podge and to decorate a chalk painted glass bottle. I would like to get some napkins from Ninny's and start creating pieces like I see Karen do. What is your experience with this? I always like to hear what the crafting community is up to. :)
