- I wrote this in my 20's, and it was mostly just my imagination with a few dashes of real life sprinkled into the mix. It is a strange hybrid ofa bluesy love song and romantic fantasy....
Damned if I do, Damned if I don’t
by James Burkey
The trees slowly stir in the wind as I pass
They rustle and whisper in my ears
They ask me why did I let you get away?
I cannot answer, it’s all so unclear
They remember the days we spent in this glade
They remember the love that we shared
I try to explain those lovely days are gone
You no longer care
And I’ll be damned if I try to stop you from leaving me
And damned if I won’t
Damned if I tell you I still love you
Damned if I do, damned if I don’t
Damned if I do, damned if I don’t
I walk away from our place of true love
Confused about what I should do
I can’t take the silence any more
But you run if I tell you I love you
It seems like no matter which path I take
I’m going to lose you for good
So I sigh and turn around and head back to the trees
Taking comfort of the memories of these woods
