The biggest threat of this setup is obviously gigas, try your best to stall them with puff shrooms and pumpkins. Activate ice shroom when diggers reach the middle of column 8 to freeze them and reduce pumpkin stress.
Overall this setup's very fun to try out (if you know what I mean).

Recommended double doom for gloom spear or not?

Absolutely yes, how are you supposed to kill gigas on side rows if you don't use double doom?
Edit: It is possible to play double ice but it's harder to defend row 1/5 and spear setups are meant to play with double doom.

I think this one is just lvl 4, wait until RE Spear where you have to deal with flower pots.

If that's the case, RE spear must be one of the the hardest lvl 5 cobless setups.
