  • Today's video is a comparison of the Sony X90L vs The Hisense U7K at 65" . This is an excellent comparison of two mid to high end Led displays. One with Full Array Local dimming and the other with mini led. Let me know who you think wins.

I was a Sony fan. However, the Hisense this year has caught up, and the displays are pretty dawn close. I do understand the Sony's processing is a bit superior. But based on the facts that the Hisense U7K has so much built-in features, like Qauntum Dot, mini-LEDs, 384 local dimming zones, and fine controls for the video images ; I think the U7K does offer great values. For the 65" model, it's almost half for the cost. I think the U7K does deserve a second look. I'm all in for it. Oh, plus the gaming features and the 144hz refresh rate. These all beats the Sony hands-down. For the price differences, it's a no Brainer....

Nowdays TVs all look good displaying high quality (4K or 8K) motion pictures. The difference is when it comes to upscaling low definition source. I think Sony upscales it far better then the competition.

Agreed with you. All TVs look great in the showrooms with 4k demo videos. It's the upscaling capability that matters for me. I'm planning to get Sony 85" X90L but the price is US$4k in my country 😢

Ordered a 85 inch u7k. So excited. I've only ever had smaller, super budget line tvs. Nothing over 600 dollars. I did so much research over past 6 months off and on and just when I was going to get the u7h they released the u7k and u8k with pretty damn low prices on them surprisingly and reviews have shown that they demolish the competition, only TLC qm8 and 850 series hold up with them.

Word has it that Sony has by far the best motion handling, I kept a 82” Samsung for 28 days the final straw was an old man walking, Samsung even blurred that, I returned it and got a Sony and I wouldn’t change if you gave me a refund to boot, maybe that’s why Brian did not show AAAAAAANY fast scenes, because Sony would’ve owned this whole video. But I hope your tv works Fantastic for you. this U7K does look amazing though!

I just want to say, I had the Hisense u8k, 75 inch series for a few days and just exchanged it for the Sony Bravia Xr X90L 75 inches. The Sony is on another level which definitely beats the husense u8k that i used to have in so many ways. Its tryly unbelievable, the colors, the sharpness, and every detail in the picture blows me away, how accurate it is the whites and blacks and every color is true to its color it's so beautiful. Ohh Wow!! The Sony x90l is worth every penny. I think I won a panel lottery. I have not seen any blooming nor ghosting effects or a slightly dirty screen effect. Sdr, hdr, and Dolby vision are all unbelievable. The software on this is so smooth, it's incredible. Thank you so much for what you do and thank you for taking the time to show what TVs can do in comparison, without lying to people! You show it how it is! Your awesome brother and my condolences to your friend. Always looking forward to see your videos.

The x90l gets the job done, it might not have deeper blacks than some other models, but the experience and the picture quality, with little to no blooming, are exceptional and enjoyable to watch. I never had the u7k, but hisenses software is unpredictable and the build quality is cheap! Sony is such a reliable brand. Hisense is unfortunately not! For the price for the Sony x90l right now is a steal! Remember... If you calibrate a TV, you can not copy the calibration on someone else's TV information on the picture settings, because every panel is different even though it's the same model. It will ruin your TV. It's funny to me because there is a comment saying I'm getting paid from Sony to say that they're great, but that's a lie, I'm not affiliated with the company in any way, I'm just telling you my experience based on purely owning one! To me, it's all about having your true experience! And since I owned 2 different Hisense models from 2023 u8k and the year 2022 u8h, both were horrible! The x90l beats it in so many ways, color accuracy, right out of the box, and as well beautiful picture from my experience!

I don't own any of those two tv's but personally, I really like most of the scenes on the Hisense better. The details are crisper and sharper, the colours are more natural and not washed out. I don't know if that's so due to the fact that I am not looking at both screens "live" but if I had to choose one of those tv-s only by looking at your review, it would definetelly be Hisense, even if was double the price of the Sony. And not the half. That's why I'm not ok with the question from the beginning of the video if the Sony justifies it's price :) The rest of the review is really good!

This is Crazy, I watched the u8k vs u7K also done by Brian and you can clearly see the brightness increase and a bit better detail on the U8K. Brian also has the U8k vs X90L and its close but you can see the better clarity most of the time goes to the Sony. Here however the clarity on the u7K equals the Sony if not beats it on a few scenes and the Contrast/blooming is much better on the U7k.
Brian you must have gotten a sweet panel on the U7k it looks fantastic.... Im finding it hard to choose between 75 u8k or 85 u7K??? both have the Pentonic 700 Chip so that is good.. but the U7K just seems to be able to control its Dimming zones/Brightness and overall processing a bit better than the big brother u8K
Thank you Brian for doing such great comparisons on these panels.. I know you personally chose the u7k for your space... so that is saying alot.

Im a Sony guy, but on this demo the Hisense appeared to have a clearer picture along with richer colors. Not sure if its because of the settings or if the Hisense is truly that much better. I get the feeling the Sony can match it in both clarity and color with a few tweaks of their extensive settings.

As a very satisfied owner of an older 75 inch Sony, I have to say that the Hisense looks better to me with two exceptions: 1) color saturation is too much in some scenes, and 2) the contrast should be toned down a bit because it causes some loss of detail. Given the price differences I would go for the Hisense.

the Hisense definitely appears to crush blacks, a trick used by both mini led and oled alike. actually kinda crazy how the X95L (not the one in this video, but the flagship of that series) both doesn't have black crush (for potentially the first time ever) *and* great bloom control. think they sacrificed a little bit of the crazy brightness for it this time, which to me is a good idea. guess sucks for the guys in US that you're only getting the one size for X95L, but still.

Hello Brian, Thanks for the video comparison between the Sony X90L vs Hisense U7K.
I am looking to buy a new 75” TV. I have been to Best Buy and Costco looking at a few models, Samsung, LG, Hisense, Sony and TCL. I have always bought a Sony TV in the past. Nowadays, several manufacturers have stepped up their product quality. The problem looking at the TV in stores is that they are all set up in retail mode, which make them all look fantastic.
I did purchase a Samsung QN90B and I was looking forward to seeing it at home. Oh, boy, what a disappointment. The picture, no matter how I adjusted looked bad, not any better the a regular LCD/LED TV.
Looking at your video X90L vs U7K, I don’t see paying a double for the X90L. I like the colors better on the U7K. The X90L looks a little more washed out, or not as vivid. The important at factor is the upscaling capability. I want the cable signals to look as good as a 4K movie. I am not sure how good the Hisense upscaling is
I think the U8K would be a better choice that the U7K.
I would like to see a comparison between U8K vs. M08 and LG QNED80URA

I have taken receipt of 3 U7K 65 inch Hisense TVs from Amazon over the past month, all with the same bottom right edge screen defect. There is color banding about 12 inches horizontal from right corner, and 1 inches high from bottom edge, it looks like the bezel holding the display is squeezing the screen, producing a very noticeable rainbow effect/banding on full screen content. I really liked the TV hence 2 returns, but the third had the same issue. Sent back and I am receiving the Sony X90L tomorrow. You get what you pay for.

The Sony looks more natural to me in terms of colors, but the Hisense in some scenes, particularly with white detail, seems to show more detail with that color, but they look very similar overall. Great video.

I don't think the Sony is set up very well here. It should best the U7K in color/quality and detail. The U8K competes with the X90L and TCL QM8. Have somebody skilled set this up and see the difference. I'm not even talking professionally calibrated. Filmaker mode is a must. Who cares what it looks like on TH-cam. Sony can make a TV look much better than TCL and Hisense. I'm not a huge fan of how much Sony marks up TVs, like Samsung and LG but, at least they know what they are doing. Grab settings off the internet and the Sony would look much better. Amateur hour. The U7K competes with the Q7.......end of story. He's also using an LG Qned 8K video. ;) The U8K is 200 dollars less than the X90L. The X90L is slightly better but, quality and panel lottery = Sony and LG.

@mordimeshita1754 I'm having trouble with your English. We have established that Sony beats Mini-LED Tvs with Direct backlit LEDs and with 100s of less dimming zones. The Hisense has the new BASE chip, that really is for budget models. Also, if you knew more about television technology, you'd know that there is only one true Mini-LED TV in the world. It's about 500,000 USD. Mini-LED retail is a thin layer pf Mini-LEDs, not a full Mini-LED TV. It's marketed as that. I'd take the Sony X90L any day of the week over the U7K and even the U8K and I'm not a Sony fan. They do the best processing. They can take an old outdated chip and process the hell out of the picture with better upscaling and colors.

Brian, throughout the video, the way you had the two TVs set up, I liked the U7K better, because of the colors and on the X90L the colors appeared a little more washed out. But at the end of the video, on the scene with the tree with the waterfall, you made adjustments on the X90L and it matched the U7K perfectly. I am not sure what settings that was. I was getting ready to declare the U7K the winner. Now, I am wondering if the X90L was set up as you did in the tree scene, maybe, I would pick the X90L. Also, you did not mention up type of display panel each one has. My TV will go on the wall above the fireplace, and I will be watching looking up. The viewing angle is important to me and I have to consider that. I heard the Hisense U8K 75” has an IPS display, which I understand has a better viewing angle. So, which display does the U7K 75” use?

From my perspective only, there is absolutely no reason to pay approximately $600.00 more for the Sony in addition to getting more bang for your buck with the Hisense. I'm not a techice like Brian so like in his video while there may be some things that Sony does better, I couldn't see any difference in quality that would have made me go for the Sony.

Missed the live today, worked all week. They seem to be pretty equal to me watching it now. Inexpensive isn't always junk now. The Sony does seem to bloom more but it might be partially the way it looks on the camera and not in person. I can say the processing on my Sony beastie makes my old dvd movies watchable now, not so much on my previous TCL. You have to decide if the Sony does something that makes it worth the extra money for you. The tax was worth it to me but I had the money, otherwise I'd still be watching my TCL in the living room.

I think I complained last time that these videos don't show a lot. In some sense TVs have adapted to these videos and vice versa.
They do show blooming on the Sony, and I think it's not too bad. What the videos don't show is what you can see in RTINGS - the trailing lighting zone transitions in their tests. You can't see it in this video because there's no content that is similar to that test.
And also the reason people don't buy Hisense is the concern about the quality control not about the picture and the technology. If that was the case all we would do is buy the cheapest Hisense or even TCL!
Also we can't see examples of stutter. That's a big problem in new TVs which is why everything in these perfect 4K stock videos moves so slow.
Lastly, people get Sony because of the upscaling.
And so once again these videos don't show that - although I am looking forward to your next video.

Brian, I'd love to see similar comparisons between the X90L, U8K & X93L. I'm in the market and will likely pick up a new set during the Black Friday sales. I'm particularly interested in how the XR Clear Image on the X90L performs vs the X93L which doesn't have it. Is there a noticeable difference in noise, upscaling and motion processing? Also, I'm very annoyed by posterization and macroblocking as well and motion stutter so those factors are important to me.

I had a U7H briefly (returned it). Besides the pencil-eraser-sized black spot in the middle of the screen (between the panel and glass), it had major issues keeping sync with the Hisense sound-bar it bundled with, and PC input was flaky. It was plenty bright, and overall I liked using it. But it was clear the QA was very sub-par. Nervous to try again with the K series. Thinking of picking up this X90L instead. The A80L is tempting too, but not sure it's worth that much more money for my usage.

Went to costco to look at tv’s last night and every single tv looked good. Every single one. My wife knows zero about tech and like the cheaper Sony displays more than anything else because of the detail so there you go. Id pick based on longevity and warranty which Hisense and TCL arent even close. Reminds me of KIA, they are making some of the flashiest suv’s right now and the general consumer sees the peacock effect and buys over something like Toyota or Lexus however, in 10 years, the plain cars will still be on the road and KIA’s will be recycled into scrap. There’s a reason why you can’t even buy a 10 year old 4runner. However, Costco offers 5 year warranty so that would make buying a Hisense alot easier and make the experiment almost intriguing

    • @jimsomerville3924
      @jimsomerville3924 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

They usually don't offer the 5 year warranty on Hisense though, or some of the cheaper models from name brands. But I agree, a Costco last night had a sub-$600 Hisense right next to a >$2500 Samsung OLED and from in front you could hardly tell a difference.

Maybe it will help what room the Hisense will be in. Not sure I have confidence it would last 5 years as our living room TV. I have an entry level Sony from 2018 and its going just fine. I would like to try out the Hisense in our bedroom since that sees a fraction of the use compared to the living room. I think we could get 5 years out of it in that scenario.

Hi Brian, really enjoy your reviews. Not that long ago I bought two Hisense TVs both identical models, same size for 2 spare bedrooms. They literally were viewed about 20-40 hours each and BOTH failed literally within days of one another 18 months in, with the IDENTICAL failure.I purchased the warranty on both of them, so I was ok other than the nonsense of removal, repurchase and re-mount. I recently purchased and will install this weekend an 85” x90l. As much as I was tempted by the fanfare of the Qm8 and U7k/U8k, I couldn’t bear the thought of giving (less $) to Hisense and deal with the hinkyness of the Qm8. I purchased the x90l from Costco with the 5 year warranty and it included a backlit remote. If for some reason it’s not to my liking, I can return the beast (it’s HEAVY) in 90 days. My past experience with Sony TVs has been excellent and still have an old SXRD going strong in NJ. Thanks again for the great reviews. Best to you, my friend!

On some instances for some reason the sony x90L looks washed and the Hisense U7k the colors tend to look over saturated. I think the only way to see the difference is if both TVs are calibrated. When I was looking for a tv I look at other brands and there is a tendency for most of them with the exception of Sony, it was the brightness and while the Sony is not the brightest, I saw the colors were more natural compared to the other brands like Samsung, TLC etc. So, I went with the X90L and so far, no regrets. Image would go from sharp and detailed to blurry - and blurry spots. loved the color and image, but the color shifting was very distracting. Tried making adjustments, gut couldn't fix it. For both u7k and u8k some reviews have mentioned returning the TVs. For that reason, I may have gone with the Sony if budget allowed.. It is kind of embarrassing, but I actually killed a Hisense by changing my new router to wpa3 . the tv did not like that. even after going back no wifi. The Sony is quality control and image processing is off the charts..Nowadays ppl just care about the price..Most ppl now will trash Sony bc of their prices..

the problem I see, is that overall the u7k looks slightly better in blacks and color, and is much cheaper than the Sony, however I wonder for larger sizes (85") if the Sony is not better for upscaling.

Sony had better motion display. It was night and day with just looking at horizon and Alloys hair move. Hisense handling of the motion was poorly handled and jittery compared to sony.

In Europe, very important notice, 75U7K i get for 1200 EUR. Sony 75X9L for 2400 - 2700 eur (Sony is very expensive in EU). So, that this two TV's is even possible to compare, is great for Hisense. I can buy 2 Hisenses for one Sony. So i expect Sony to be much much better TV. And is it?
Notice 2: Specs of Hisense in the USA are not the same as in EU? Still?

I’m really considering the U7K but how is the reliability and durability for Hisense nowadays?

Game mode shouldn't do anything but put the pixels the console or PC is pushing out up on the screen without messing with the image. Basically it should turn the TV into a giant PC monitor and nothing more, image "enhancement" (it's actually image degradement) is trash and belongs in the trash. Or hell, just have a "raw" picture option that turns all that crap off, it can't be that hard.

You cant judge these two by watching this video. You have to see it in person or have a oled or plasma tv to see just how sony processing makes a picture or video look like you are actually there. A horse looks like a horse, like you can touch it. Hisense has more vivid colors but it makes the horse look like a painting of the horse, not like its an actual horse. If color and brightness are more important, Hisense wins. If quality, depth and accuracy are more important Sony wins. Plus dont forget no TV on the market upscales old content better than the X90L. Ive owned Sony and Hisense TVs and I love both for different reasons. Also Sony reflection handling is and always has been very poor. Hisense definitely wins there as well.

Brian, I have seen the 2023 LG version of the QNED80URA at Best Buy and it looks good at the store. . Could you compare the QNED80URA to Hisense U7K? Or do a full review of the LG?

The Sony X90K, the X90L predecessor, is on sale and comes in at the same price as the Hisense U7K. Does that make the Sony a better buy than the Hisense given the quality of the brand?

Hey brian still confused with g2 and c3 g2 has heatsync and overall a gallery design which I love but scared of the pink tint on it. C3 on the other hand is identical with better uniformity and newer model of 2023. Overall compared both have the same brightness and ABL after latest updates.

I know this video is for the X90L, not the X90K, but I was wondering how you think the U7K compares to the Sony 75” Class BRAVIA XR X90K 4K. The Sony is on black Friday sale and now both the X90k and the U7K are sitting at $900 for the 75".

The X90K is still very good and I think the X90K matches up favorably against it! If you can grab the 75" for a good price I'd get it. I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching
