When you have about three months of scorching temperatures here in Phoenix, AZ, I finally embraced adding more shorts to my wardrobe. First I was concerned about my age (66) in addition to the imperfections in my legs. My style is all about comfort and classic neutral styles. I added some preppy styles of shorts and some pleated linen Bermuda shorts. When I style these with the right tops, I feel both comfortable and stylish. I hope to get to a more minimalist wardrobe in the future. I love your style and the way you are always reflecting on your wardrobe.
Great advice. I love a “skort”, a, long wide Aline short. Found some in navy tencel in a thrift shop, they were ‘golf’ shorts. They look like a Bermuda short met a business skirt, but are so cool and airy and a bit funky. You can’t look stylish if you’re uncomfortable!
I wanted to get a chunky gold and a silver necklace, seeing how they elevate outfits. A couple of days ago I took out all my jewelry stashed in a drawer. I found a set of chunky gold necklace and earrings from 20+ years ago. I also found a couple of 1970/80’s vintage silver tone chunky chains. I forgot about having them but was happy to rediscover them.

I don’t like dressing for summer either! I feel exposed in some strange way so I much prefer autumn. I love autumn and layering clothing.

I found this such a helpful video illustrating how slight changes make all the difference to the outfits. I also love that you show great looking outfits that include light colours since many of us suit these better.
I love that you are slowly adding some color while still staying true to your minimalism. It has helped me to use the color in my closet better. while we are not the same “season” I am able to use our choices for inspiration
I realize that my style is changing over the years. It's because of getting older, more mature, more confident, being a mom of baby's, toddlers, teens or grown up... I learn, that there will always be the same key pieces I love, but lots of other garments are still changing! Let's embrace it by still being mindful and conscious ❤

I so relate about the legs. The cut and fabrication of a skirt is everything. For me, Aline, soft fluid fabric, and knee length or longer. It changes everything when you get the cut/fabric combo right. But bring on autumn and tights!
Look No. 4 was my fave restyled! 😍 You are very relatable regarding summertime and legs! I’ve *always* been self conscious about my legs-since being a young girl in grade school and being picked on by boys. Between the high temperatures this summer and with slow, steady weight loss- I am now incorporating some shorts and skirts into my summer wardrobe. It feels really nice and lighter. I like how your style back then and even now is still down to earth with a little bit of edge, but in a direction that feels more nuanced. As a side note, I really feel like you'd make a great model. This was a great video. Styles come and go, but finding your true style as you stated is key. I really like the grey tee and mint green blazer. I never would have thought those would coordinate well. I live in Scottsdale, AZ and we have long hot summers. I retired last year after 20 years of teaching elementary school children, so my lifestyle needs have changed. I still love getting dressed for my day in classic styles, but I needed clothes that accommodated the scorching heat of our summers. When I turned 65, I posed a question to Google on whether women our age should wear shorts. That is how I got started with the TH-cam fashion influencers. Needless to say, I am embracing my age and imperfections in my legs and added about 8 pairs of shorts to my wardrobe. Some are classic styles with pleated linen Bermuda shorts and some have that fun preppy look. I am feeling so comfortable with my choices. I think as women age, most of us become easier on ourselves. I do prefer fall/winter clothes, but I have to accept the reality that I live in a warm climate 75% of the time.
Style evolves even if we like to keep and wear our old clothes. I like how from your new evolved style and increased knowledge you can see clearly what you would no longer wear in the old photos. Yet you manage to stay true to your style and always look great and confident. And yes, jewelry adds so much interest to our minimalistic looks. Great video!

I feel more calm and contained with less flesh showing otherwise a sensation of not being protected or that my body would escape! Other season’s clothing makes me feel held and complete! Autumn has to be my favourite.

Good exercise! I also have some pics of my outfits from just two months ago (when i started taking them) that i would restyle today. But i realize its not always about making them better or fixing 'mistakes', because i remember feeling great in them! I think it is about i am changing constantly, so as my taste, and i want to restyle them because i am a slightly different person now. From just 2 months ago! That was really an insight.

Yes, definitely hate the summers.. I don’t get inspired because it gets way too hot where I am.. I am happiest during the cold season because I love layering clothes, feeling cozy, beautiful elegant layers, beautiful coats.. it is when Im most inspired 😊..Mixing the old with the new

I found your channel after listening to the Sustain This podcast. I have very similar struggles with fashion in summer as you describe in the video. For me it's my arms. I prefer longer sleeves - no idea why, I just prefer long sleeves. Plus, I don't often have a lot of concrete plans in the summer, life is very casual and last minute in the summer, which makes it hard to find a reason to get all dressed up. It's also a very short season - the really hot weather only lasts for about two months, so I don't have a lot of shorts. Dresses are great, but often feel a little too formal for casually hanging out at home.
One thing thay I find so important in a look, is to match your jewellery to the metal wear on your clothes/handbags. Definitely looks more cohesive and polished and not distracting.

Mu summer wardrobe is a work in progress, let´s just think about it like that. 🤣It used to be worse, but summer has always served the boho and romantic types a lot better
I am the exact oposite, I love summer because you just put on a great skirt or a dress and you are done.
I always struggle during colder months. Layering is not my strength to be honest.

Many women of my generation, I’m 63, don’t like those baker boy caps. The reason is that very old ladies of the generation before us never stopped wearing theirs! I now see ladies in their 80s and 90s wearing their original ones, and I think No Way! I feel the same about classic strands of pearls. I love pearls, but always mixed with gold elements in more modern styles. I wore classic strands of fakes in the 80s, they don’t any more look fresh to me now than those enormous 80s shoulders do (but I do like small, squared-edge shoulder pads, just mot the extreme ones we’re seeing again). I was excited when flattering, small shoulder pads cane back, but they quickly went to three foot wide, weird, pointy versions. Designers never know how to use a classic element to best advantage, they always take them to extremes! How about some wearable things for a change?

I think you would feel more comfortable in dresses / long skirts for summer wear.
I am totally the opposite in terms of seasonal preferences! I love summer dressing! But its probably because I was born and raised in a tropical country.
I moved to Europe almost 5 years ago now and I particularly struggle with cold weather dressing just as much as you struggle with warm weather dressing. I always struggle to look chic AND stay warm at the same time.
My summer style keywords are: effortless, utilitarian and whimsical. I love playing around with fun jewellery and bags during this time of year. I love showing more skin and feeling more feminine - which I somehow can’t feel during the colder seasons.
I wonder… Could there be a co-relation between where we have been raised and our preferences in seasonal dressing…? 🧐🧐🧐
That’s a great point Lia! I think there could be. Being born and raised in Scandinavia where it’s cool so much of the time that’s probably why I feel a part of me comes “home” when autumn arrives 😍🙏🏻
I love that you moved away from wearing so much black, it doesn’t suit us Summers very well. It’s hard to have a black-free wardrobe, but I try to keep it to a minimum. If I wear black near my face, I wear makeup and try to lighten the black up with a scarf, white collar, etc. I had to wear makeup during my whole career, now that I’m retired, I usually just wear a moisturizer/sunscreen. It’s pure laziness, really, which I don’t otherwise have about my outfits at all. Well, to be honest, I’m pretty lazy about jewelry, too, mostly because it’s such a struggle to get earrings in (bad piercings) or a necklace clasped, I’m on my own. That said, I think many woman wear too much jewelry. I like one each necklace, earrings and bracelet, for example, not multiples of everything stacked. Part of what drove this trend is the outrageous price of gold since ‘08, investors are hoarding it as bullion so much that the amount available is low for other purposes like jewelry. When precious metals are so expensive, jewelry gets smaller and smaller. It wasn’t always like this, when I was in my 20s (1980s) gold wasn’t even recycled, gold jewelry was just thrown away if broken or unwanted. Jewelers refused to work with re-melted gold.
Have you maybe considered wearing pants with longer inseams? I noticed most of your pants are cropped, this will make your legs look longer. It will still show the shoes.
