    Thank you. I just received both my Grandmothers' clocks from my parents' estate and was concerned about winding since the two key holes are wound in opposite directions. I am now hearing clock strikes I heard as a child in my Grandmother's living room. Cozy ☺

    I can't believe how much of a Lost Art this has become. This was a tradition back years ago and people don't know how to read these types of clocks anymore. I would continue to have this tradition because in my opinion quartz movements just don't do justice anymore. I miss hearing the ticking and striking of each hour. Westminister Chimes are nice but the pure sound early in the morning at say 5:30 am while having coffee would be so nice to hear. I think I would want to own and take care of one of these.

    Excellent describe of how to make it work. However, our clock chimes are not syncronized with the actual hour. It chimes 3 times for 7:00 o;clock. How do we get the chime and hour to be synched? Thank you.

    I recently acquired a Centurion 15 days wall clock. I like know the history of items but am having trouble with this one. Am I correct it was made in Korea sometime in the 1950's and 1960's or am I completely wrong? Also, Seems like 30 or 35 days is the norm instead of 15 days? Lastly, any special care recommendations. Thanks in advance.

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh nice yeah these are amazing clocks, glad you got one of your own. Yes it was made in Korea but I don’t know if it was made in the 50s or 60s. Not sure on that. 30-35 day clocks are definitely more common than 15 days. As for Recommendations for care, I would recommend winding it every 2 weeks in your case, oiling it if it starts to have issues and definitely keep the clock running.

    @Jamestube 8439 Now that is a pretty nice elegant looking clock. I like the Roman numerals, and the metal clock face. Centurion is an antique/vintage brand of those clocks. It is a 35 day so after fully winding it then You must wind it 5 weeks later. You know 28 days is 4 weeks? Well 35 makes it 5 weeks. Let’s say You fully wind it on Thursday as a good example. After the winding process then 5 Thursdays later (5 Thursday weeks), then the 35 day wall clock pendulum would stop on it’s own, while being untouched. I have a question for ya. What happens when You move the pendulum without winding the clock, even after it fully ran out of winding power? Would it break the timekeeping movement? If You need clarification to better comprehend my question tell Me, and I’ll help. Monthly wall clocks are my favourite type of clocks, because they reduce the most winding process apart of winding session.

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is such a cool clock and yes I know 35 days is 5 weeks lol. To answer your question no it wouldn't break it. If you start the pendulum up after it's ran all the way down, it will swing for a little bit but eventually stop again. Winding the running power keyhole gives power to the pendulum to keep it swinging obviously and without a source of power, the pendulum eventually would stop when no source of power is given.

    Hi, I just had my clock for a few days. I bought it in a thrift store. I didn’t even realize they wind in opposite directions from one another, so thanks for this video! So far, I found out mine doesn’t chime on the half hour and some of the hour rings (not all) chime the wrong time. Do you know if that can be fixed? Otherwise I love my clock!

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes clocks won’t chime on the half hour mark. As for the chimes on the wrong hour, move the minute hand manually to the next hour and count the chimes. Let’s say for example it chimes 8 times, then move the hour hand to 8 o-clock. That should correct the number of chimes with the right hour

    so, do you have more information about this clock? like, how tight should it wind? why did you turn it so that the key was horizontal before you removed it from each hole (you turned each key a couple of or few clicks as you finished the wind)? how come you wound both cranks? does one wind the chime and the other wind the clock hands?

    • @armhanson
      @armhanson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      oh, and how often should it be wound?

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When winding the clock, it will become harder to turn the key until it eventually cannot turn anymore. I tend to wind it up all the way just because it makes sense to wind it all the way since this clock will run for a month before needing to be wound again.
      Turning the key horizontal does not matter when winding it, that just happened to be the position it was in when I removed it.
      Both cranks have to wound as one of them powers the chimes while the other gives power to keep the clock running.
      This clock is a 35 day clock, it needs to be wound once a month.
      Hope that’s answers all of your questions. If you have any more, feel free to ask them.

    I have a very similar Centurion 35 day wall clock acquired from my inlaws. It's really a beautiful clock. I was wondering what the left keyhole operates. I know the right one is for the hand movement. Also it loses about 15 minutes over a 24 hr period. Any suggestions on how to get it to keep proper time? Thanks! Great video BTW!

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can adjust it by twisting the bobber on the end of pendulum. One way goes faster and other goes slower. I don’t remember what the left keyhole does off the top of my head though. I’ll have to check when I get home

  • @rek550
    @rek550 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you adjust the clock if it is running fast or slow?

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a bobber on the pendulum, you’ll twist it counter clockwise I believe to go faster and clockwise to go slower. You’ll have to play around with it a bit to make sure it keeps time properly. Make a few adjustments and wait about a day to see if the clock needs any further adjustments

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it should only let you wind it one way so considering the key won’t move in either direction you probably wound it up all the way. So to unwind it you just need to let it run. Start the pendulum on it and it should start winding down. Is your clock a 7 day clock or a 31 day clock?
