- This is a walking tour video of Pazar the Green Market in Split, Croatia. The Pazar Green Market is located right next to the east wall of the Diocletian Palace, and around the church of St Dominic. It is one of the central places of life in Split, and recently its becoming also a popular destination for tourists eager to feel the local spirit. The outdoor market used to be on today's Fruit Square, but due to the rapid city development there was a need for a bigger space, and today that part of the city's core is the true belly of the city of Split. At the same time it is the place where you can still feel the spirit of Dalmatia and the Mediterranean, the colours, flavours and aromas of fresh fruits and vegetables, but also the sounds, the yelling and bargaining, all of the above will without a doubt be a clear clue to where you are at that moment. Of course all that you can buy on the open market can also be bought in any supermarket, even cheaper, but nothing can replace the local atmosphere.

Last I heard if you are fully vaccinated and two weeks after the second shot you will be fine.

I go to market for you
April, 2022. I have been avoiding such markets and buy my produce at grocery stores (where prices are displayed). Every time I shopped at open markets of Trogir and Split, I had to fight for I was always short changed and the price I was charged was not what the locals would pay, but the ''tourist'' rate. I am an avid tip giver, so this is not about the money per say, but about being this openly fooled, robbed, and once I was to leave, make derogatory comments behind the counter among the women selling. I speak Croatian, but prefer communicate ion English, for this way, the Croats are a bit nicer. If I speak their language, they treat me just the way they treat each other, rude and abusive. I am cutting my trip short and off to Italy, for some civility and culture.
I have had that happen to me as well unfortunately. So, I do a mix of market and grocery stores. I do my best to research first to see if it's fair. All the best and thanks for stopping by!
