My late father was a jazz trombonist, a Jack of all trades, a voracious reader, and the most eloquent man I had known, a fantastic explainer of stuff. He would have been 90 this March and I'm always reminded of him when I see you Scott. Even the white hair and square glasses. But today I saw the trio hit it off and... tears just bursted out. Thank you so much for sharing such a simple and beautiful moment with us, you never know how it will resonate on another person. You made my day. Keep up the good work!

The spec house was great, but the content over the last several weeks is the kind that brought me to this channel in the first place. The first video I watched was on the Spencer logging tape, and it sold me on the whole package

I also fell off my chair when I saw this episode. I’m a working professional double bassist (Celsius Quartet) who loves to spend days in my shop fabricating (welding)wood working and improvising ! I’ve always thought the more you create, improvise, learn knew things ,the more everything starts to tie together and it’s all connected. The most important thing is to share it and pay it forward! Thank you Essential Craftsman for sharing your talents ,knowledge and experiences .

Jon’s new tuba must be an absolute _beast_ if he is selling this one, that has a sweet and strong tone - looking forward to your new series “Here’s something I am learning” :) Thank you Kelly for joining in front of the camera today, and making it a trio!
Such delight to have this music - and a little surprise too, I love watching your videos but had not suspected the Dixie trombonist in you. Now it’s obvious though: relying on teamwork and letting the twinkle in your eye shine: keep up the good work!!

My son was the "tuba genius" in the middle school band and won several awards. It was also my favorite instrument. I thought that I would be listening to the sound of the tuba until I left the planet, BUT he wanted no part of it after middle school. DANG. My neighbor gave us a Ephonium, a two horned horn, but smaller than a tuba. Remember the "The Dukes of Dixieland " from the 50's or 60's? I played that record until the dog cried "mercy". My favorite sounds. You guys are awesome !!!!!! I never knew you were soooo talented!

As an Indiana fellow I enjoyed this video. I have visited Oregon twice. First in 1994 to the National Square Dance convention in Portland and again to Portland in 2014 for a Rugby Tournament our Grandson from Montana was playing in. We were in Montana for his H.S. graduation when the opportunity can up, so we decided to go since we had no other plans. We drove southeast across the state to Idaho then back up to Missoula then to Great Falls for our Daughters birthday, which she did not know we were coming back for. Thanks for the Indiana tune. Great job.

  • @Maxhuette

Great sound! As an old tuba & euphonium player, I loved it. Scott, you'll find adding the tuba to your repertoire a fairly simple task. The embouchure is a little different from the trombone and you're playing an octave lower, but there's a direct correspondence between trombone slide positions and tuba (or euphonium) valve combinations. Also, that 4th valve is like the F attachment on a trombone: it lowers the fundamental pitch of the horn by a fourth. Using it will probably give you better intonation than you'd get with valve combinations 1-3 or 1-2-3 (6th or 7th position) notes. Play it!
