Hi Venus, you and Serena have been one of my biggest inspirations growing up. I used to train professionally since the age of 8, but after I turned 12 life had taken a spin and I had to leave playing tennis, one of the few things that gave me so much fulfillment and was like my haven growing up. Now at 24 years of age, all I can say is that this movie was the trigger that revived my love and motivation in tennis and in my life in general, after so many years of feeling lost and not knowing what I truly want again. I've started practicing again every day on my own to catch up on some of the fundamentals I remember, and seeing if I can take tennis classes again to push myself to the next level now !! ❤

    • @drvren030
      @drvren030 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      (optional lol
My story: I used to train in tennis from the age of 8-12 growing up in Sacramento, California. I remember my coach telling me that within a few years I'd be ready for Juniors. For me, tennis was also a personal sort of haven. As someone who was severely bullied in school, I remember it was the one thing I genuinely enjoyed and looked forward to every day and it gave me hope and confidence in myself.
That's why it felt like a part of me was taken away from me after we moved. Due to family circumstances, we had to move to a new country halfway across the world and given the situation for our family personally was so difficult, I couldn't play tennis anymore and over the years I lost the motivation to play again, alongside my struggles with the mental health issues I developed.
Years later, now at 24, I've reached a very, let's say, decisive state in my life where I'm considering where to take my life now that my formal education is all over. I decided to watch the movie King Richard, initially just more in a "why not?" kind of mood...little did I know what I had in store set up for me. From the minute the movie started to where it ended, I didn't move an inch from my spot and I can't remember the last time I felt a heavy weight as if it was just being lifted off of my head mentally for some reason. Not only was I moved by the movie, it was as if something had healed within me, like an odd sort of victory, I can't really explain it. It wasn't just that I was watching the in-depth story of two of the greatest players to enter a tennis court anymore, it became a story of how far love, integrity and dedication can take you in your life if you believe no matter what, and I was watching your family as great people who've proved that together, and after fighting through all the odds, made a real change in this world.
The very next day, I looked for my racquet that had gone dusty after 10+ years of never touching it. There was a nearby court and I asked my dad if I could just rally with him a bit there. And once we started, it was one of the most surreal feelings in my life. It was as if I had picked up just from where I last left off when I was 12. )

Venus, recently we watched the film for the 2nd time. It emotionally captivated us. It is well on its way toward being another Shawshank for us… that is, a film we’ll watch anytime it’s on television. It’s so inspiring to see 2 young Black girls strive for and achieve their dreams. Bravo!!! 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥

I used to play tennis back in high school, but then life happened and I quit. I watched the movie in March for the first time and it moved me and inspired me so much that the next day I went to buy a racket and subscribe to tennis classes! It feels great to be back and I always question myself and wonder why I left it in the first place.
Now, every time one of my friends or family members suggests watching a movie I ALWAYS recommend King Richard, which has left me to watch it six times now (and counting!!). I liked it that much. I always admired you and Serena, you both are among my favorite players and getting to see some background of your lives was amazing, so thank you for that gift!!

I can't tell you how amazing and powerful this TH-cam is. When I was elementary, me and my sister played tennis and in the neighborhood we lived in full of shootings and crime it was really uncommon to see people like us playing. Anyway, then we looked up to a player named Zina Garrison, who at the time was the only one that looked like us playing tennis on TV. We tried to write her via mail, but had absolutely no access to her to be able to see and learn these things that you share on your TH-cam channel for free or just seeing someone reflect us. That in itself for kids like us could have been game changing and it will be for kids that watch your channel from these neighborhoods now! Can't wait to see you back on the court and love what you're doing off the court! Big ups! 🎾 ❤️ 🏆

The movie should have won best picture. I was so moved by how Will Smith played your dad. My favorite part of the movie was when he talks to Serena at the tennis court and tells her that she will be the "best that ever was." "The Greatest of all Time" I had tears in my eyes after that scene. It was amazing to see how your dad had so much faith in his plan for the both of you to succeed and become the best you could be. Both of you are such role models and inspirations. I like watching behind the scenes when you, Isha and Serena met the kids. All of you were so funny. BTW, York, Brian Butts and Byron were not into you girls? They didnt know what they were missing. Love you, Venus! 😘😘

That scene where police are called and Mr Williams confronts them telling them that he's just trying to raise his kids right in a tough environment, it really touched me. "Pick up a racquet and start swinging" - I won't forget your words. To have known your family through this acclaimed cast was an unforgetable journey. God bless you, your father, mother, sisters, husband, and kids!

When I watch videos on TH-cam, I rarely watch all the way through. But when it comes to Venus and Serena, I am transfixed and watch and listen to every word to the very end. I have little interest in tennis, but with these two, (these two!), I have watched almost all of their games all the way through. They are like assassins on that court. Genghis Khan has nothing on them. It is truly remarkable to watch…

Ohh, Mr.Creative242!!! These girls were very young when their dad started their careers. It was a different time in America. You do not want to see or hear the reactions of how our country, truly, treated them. Also, a lot of videos have been cut over the years. At tourney introductions, they cut the nasty mean comments yelled out from the crowd. Also, stuff would happen to them while playing their sets. I am 75yrs old now, sometimes I would just turn the TV off. The worst of the worst was Indian Wells. However, the best of the best was when 18yr old Serena won and made her winning interview. That speech was completely cut out. I my goodness, I cried so hard for her. This young child stayed calm, commented nicely about their treatment of her. But, hears the kicker. She actually smiled looking out at the crowd and said I FORGIVE YOU!! She then ran crying to her family in the bleachers. That when I knew this girl would be someone great!!! If u know anyone that can pull up her winning speech, I would suggest you check it out. There was no reason for the powers that be to take away her comments, the child was a professional, back then! 😭😱😥

We love Venus and Serena in this house. My daughter definitely knows when she sees Serena on tv..even in commercials.
    One thing regarding the movie:
I wonder how it felt for the Williams family to see the young lady who played Yetunde on screen.

I train my son since 6 old, he is now 8 and winning some local ITF red ball tournaments for kids, now moved to orange ball, when I watched movie of course I found many similarities to how I train my son like using car parkings since we have no free courts like in USA, we can't use basket with balls since its not possible in parkings, asphalt is slippery and dangerous, often we play in granite surface which is also slippery, its also windy and sometimes we play under rain, there are whole lot of things that against us but we keep trying...

OMG, I literally put a comment a while back requesting your opinions on the movie. I love the movie so much, and after watching this video, I just love it more. It is such an inspirational movie, and I do take it personally as I am also from an underprivileged family. I love how assertive Richard was, and how much faith he has in you and Serena. I had quite a few "You gotta be kidding me" moments while watching the movie, while he demanded free coaching and a house, who does that? When he refused a million dollar contract after your first US open, isn't that insane? I was completely blown away, and inspired by your whole family. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story with the entire world. By the way, your kitchen looks pretty nice, maybe you can make a cooking video if you like cooking. Cannot wait to finish it and to watch it with my family and kids. Truly inspiring. This was my favorite film last year. I've already seen it three times. I mostly could relate to your dad. The obstacles he had to overcome so that you & Serena could become champions was so inspiring. His persistence & dedication has helped motivate me to achieve my dreams. I'm 58 years old, never played tennis, and I'm DETERMINED to be a Wimbledon champion! (no, I'm just kidding). Seriously though, it did show me how important it is to commit to your dream (whatever that may be) on a daily basis. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. As far as questions I have, did your dad really get beat up by gang members?

I saw the movie last week and must say I loved it! Being a highly unskilled amateur tennis player, I already had a huge amount of admiration for Venus and Serena but the movie added a view on your background and made it all the more interesting! Congratulations on your amazing achievements!

Just finished watching the film I thought it was amazing ! funny and warm, the family dynamics there were awe inspiring. I thought Aunjanue deserves an Oscar for that role. The scene where she finally confronts WS was absolute perfection.

I recently started playing tennis at 50. And now I'm playing USTA & ALTA ( 3.5 and B1). I love how my game has progressed, hitting with pace, vicious serves and PLAYING THE NET!!AT 6'0 I AM A FORCE.....DONT PUT IT WHERE I CAN GET IT....ITS OVER!!😆😊🎾
Thanks to you and Serena's influence on me and the women of color who probably would have never thought to pick up a racket.

Venus, great update. I am a sports fan and used to enjoy watching Transworld Sport early Sunday mornings in the UK and one episode they featured yourself and Serena. A nice introduction to 'future number 1 and number 2' in women's tennis. From your comments and others in this page, with tissues close to hand I am sure I will thoroughly enjoy the movie King Richard. 💜✌🏾

I loved the film and hats off to all involved. Question I have is when Richard was defending his daughters honor and as a result was beaten for it was that an actual event? I also enjoyed the fact that once the "thugs" saw what the sisters could do began to protect them. I hope that was a true event. I watched the movie 3 times. Loved it. Told others about it.

Thank you for this video. I have not seen the film because I thought it would be one of those "Hollywood" types. Those where the consultant's input is disregarded for the Hollywood hype to get more movie goers. It's really good to know you guys were on set and keeping this as real as, well, REAL❤ So, yes, based on your review, I intend to watch. ❤❤

"you just can't imagine things in life". Well your father sure did! I wish I could shake his hand and show my respect. Your father is much smarter than anybody. I hope to raise my children to be humble, super confident, and to have fun just as you and your sisters did.

I am so happy I saw the film. I was only a baby when Venus turned pro, and I only heard of Venus and Serena when I was.... I think around 8 years old. Two sisters taking the tennis world by storm! So I did a lot of reading about them, and really got to learn about them, and seeing this movie really got me to experience their upbringing and how they grew to success!

Venus, what a beautiful and inspiring story... You are a beautiful person I loved watching play. I watched the movie, it was a great moving and I have to be honest, I got teary during a few scenes. What you and your sister had to endure going up and once you got on tour is a testament to internal and family strength! One of the things I wondered about is during the times on the court in Compton, how often were you harassed by the local gangs and at what point did they stop harassing you and your family and understood that you were something special?
