    I've done a lot of DIY stuff on vehicles over the decades, and was considering doing this one myself. But, after watching the first couple of minutes, you helped me (and my old bones) decide to let the pros do this one for me. Thanks for your great vids. Always enjoy them and always learn a lot!

    Now do it laying on your back in the gravel on a cold day, fender cover not removed, small ladder and bruised ribs with some cuts and grease. It sucked but I did it. Of course this video helped me.

    Awesome video - thanks for explaining everything in great detail. Gonna install a new starter in my 2015 F350 this weekend - your video is probably going to save me lots of install money by doing it myself.

    I just did my 2013 6.2 . I didn't have a jack so i just crawled under the truck ( also didn't have to remove tire this way) and I also didn't have a swivel socket so I just used a 6" extension and felt for the 2 top screws!

    Great video. Do you have the procedure on how to inspect the flywheel once the starter is removed?

    Great video, but I have a question: What was the spark from the starter at 9 minutes and 37 seconds as it was being removed? Would that occur if the batteries were disconnected?

    • @salvagegarage1733
      @salvagegarage1733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had cables come untucked from where they were, when you disconnect the negative cables put a rag or a cut piece of like a bike inner tube and place it over the terminal just in case they do

    I just had my 2016 F250 towed into Ford and they advised the starter was "hanging" no bolts to be found. A week later, Ford calls to tell me they found one bolt broken off and it needed to be drilled out and the starter was bad. Of course they asked me who worked on it before - FORD only - but to my knowledge never the starter. My question is: Are there any other scenarios where the Starter would have been removed for another service? I was going to look through my records, but don't know what to look for. Thank you.

      no it sits kinda at the very bottom of motor right above frame. unless transmission was replaced.

    • @andrewstratton806
      @andrewstratton806 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's a diesel the bolts could have vibrated loose over time

    Would it not be prudent to use anti seize on any bolts when putting them back in? - I live in canada, and rust is a big issue... I would be using anti seize when replacing any of those bolts, along with dielectric grease on the electrical connections.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Heywoodj1969 Thanks for watching! That is something you can always do if rust and corrosion is a concern. It should not affect anything!

    Why doesnt this look anything like my 2011 F250? Where is the exhaust pipe that entirely blocks access to that top fastener? And there is no threaded hole on my starter. I wonder what year this truck in the video is.

  • @scud830
    @scud830 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The Ford engineers are absolutely brainless for this design. You shouldn't have to pry a starter from that location. Should drop out easy. They need to fix this crap. What a disgrace. Thanks for the video.

    • @johnjmandel8637
      @johnjmandel8637 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      scud830 you’ve obviously never changed a starter on a Duramax. This is easy.

    • @scud830
      @scud830 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnjmandel8637 I'll take the minor aches and pains here and there with the Ford repairs any day over any other, that's for sure.

      No prying just rotate counterclockwise and it comes right out. This video did not show this. No need to unplug the block heater either. Good video.

    Totally unnecessary on a 2011 gas F250 4x4. Removing the fender shroud costs you an hr. in time and gains u zero.
