Psalms 126-128

We are currently in a section of Psalms known as the Psalms of Ascent. If these Psalms were sung by pilgrims coming to Jerusalem, as many believe, they were written at various times and most likely compiled after their return from captivity in Babylon. In the ones we study today, they reflect different times in the nation, based on what is said and the mood which we see revealed. From times of restoration, to times of peace and wellbeing there are surely different circumstances in them.
However they may be placed, these passages are to a very narrow audience, initially. Only when we understand the passages in their historical context can we understand why such passages were penned. Then, we can apply any spiritual truths which transcend the times in which these passages were written.
Only Covenant Israel and Judah can understand them in their original context, though many of the truths written apply to those who walk with God as He leads.
