    Hey boys and gals, aunties and uncles,
    Shangri-la here we come!
    According to the oral history of the Kelabit people, all human beings were originated from the mountains. When a big flood cover the earth, some of them built rafts and boats and went to coastal areas. Those stranded on the highlands remain to this today as the Kelabit people.
    The Kelabit were headhunters prior to early contacts in the 1920s.In 1939, Frank Davidson of Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) visited the Kelabit people in Bario. Since then, the Kelabit changed their belief from animism to Christianity.
    In the closing months of the Pacific war during WW2, Bario became a base for Operation Semut (operation ant), an anti-Japanese military operation, when a small force under Tom Harrisson landed here by parachute in March 1945.
    The courages Kelabit people participated in sabotaging Japanese operations in Sarawak.
    The first school in Bario was established in 1946.
    A new concrete airstrip was completed in 1996.

    Hi CK, this is Tisa, the admin for Sinah Rang Lemulun Homestay. So glad you made it to Bario & produced this video to promote the Kelabit Highlands. Cousin Abe did a great job showing you around & explaining the culture to you. So happy to see a glimpse of my mother “Auntie Rang” at the end of the video. Amazingly you made it to the Prayer Mountain in under 1 1/2 hours (?)👍. Hope you had a wonderful trip. Thank you!

    • @CKology
      @CKology  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a 14 hours drive and VERY dangerous, the village is virtually supplied by air. Air ticket is 250 return per person from Miri. Only 9 adults max they allowed on the plane. Your kids will love it though, the police station there don't even have a lock up cell. Long house per night stay is 90 per adult includes 3 meals.

    Hi KC, Kelabit is definitely not the smallest tribe in Malaysia or Sarawak. Examples of tribes that have even less people are the Saban, the Murik and the Sebob of the upper Baram River. Also, the Buket and the Sihan of the upper Rejang. Just to name a few. Some consider the Kelabit and the Lun Bawang as sub-tribes of one tribe because their languages are almost mutually intelligible.
