I remember my dad videoing this fight for me, and watching it the next morning before i'd seen the news about what had happened...the guy was a great boxer, but that's nothing compared to what he's done since. Didnt know til i saw this what an amazing recovery he's made. Michael Watson = amazing human being.
i watched this fight back in 91 a day b4 my 22nd bd.now nearly 20 years after ive just wept like a baby having watched this.bloody hell!!what a top bloke he has become.it just makes some of my whining on life seem selfish. god bless you michael
Didnt realize Mike had come so far, most men would never have recovered this much at all. Handsome man, great fighter and a Gooner. G-d bless you man you were my favorite boxer.
Talk about courage. I cannot even begin to imagine what this boxer and his family went through. Very good to see him back and able to contribute to this documentary. Michael Waston you were a ledge boxer and what happened does not make a difference but what you have done after that to get back to some kind of normality is truly remarkable. This has brought me to tears watching this. You are a champion in everyones eyes.
Watched it all. Thank you for posting this. In Holland we saw the match on tv but that was before internet. I wanted to see this fight again and I was shocked that this happend. When Ali visited Watson...that was great so see and made me emotional. Thanks again for posting this docu.
What most people are oblivious to is that both Watson and Eubank both came from Hoxton in London's East End. I know because I used to knock about with Chris's elder brother Simon and sometimes Chris would tag along. Michael also went to the same school that I went to and from that school came John H Stracey, John L Gardner, Francis Ampofo, Billy Taylor, Colin Derrick and a host of other fighters to numerous to mention.
Great documentary, i remember watching this fight when i was a kid and then watching this documentary when it was aired on tv. How he is alive is a miracle and a thankfull one at that.
What an amazing documentery! I am so happy for Mike Watson that he has recovered so well. Ive been thinking about this match for years what happened to Mike W. Very emotional to see them meet after all these years. Thanks a lot for this fantastic documentary. The best Ive ever seen.
That was a wonderful documentary thank you so much for posting - felt pretty emotional when he said he forgave him it speaks so well of his character. It sounds so off the cuff but it really can happen to anyone, its not Chris' fault and nice of Michael to acknowledge that in the face of all he has suffered.
what an an amazing man ,got in the ring to become a champion was carried out the ring ,and not only faught back from death made changes to the sport that saves lives and makes me feel very humble at his spirit and attitude he has ,NOW THATS A REAL CHAMPION
This genuinely brought a tear to my eye. It was good to see Eubank admit that in spite of the decision, he lost the fight. Seeing the footage of Watson struggling to move and having to be changed etc was just heartbreaking. You'd never wish that on anyone. Also, what a brave and courageous man for completing the marathon. I'm not a huge boxing fan but this man deserves anyone's admiration.
this man has the heart of a lion. him answering the bell in the 12 is the bravest thing i have ever seen. his recovery is due to his spirit and sheer force of will. i only hope to mirror 1/10 the courage this man has.
They were both hitting each other hard in that fight, both intent on hurting one another. Neither men, nor any other fighter, would or could hold back in case they injure the other. Watson showed what an incredible man he is by forgiving Eubank.
You're a brave dude Michael! So very glad you're still living after an amazing road to recovery! Yer Mum certainly knows the right food to eat! Any chance she'd cook me Sunday dinner? Seriously tho' I congratulate you on your superb boxing skill & determination to survive, nice 1! XX
i cannot believe how good michael looks. i remember watching that fight & actually crying thinking he was dying.i thought he was still in a wheelchair today. to see him so well is amazing. great respect to eubank for his taking part in the documentary although it is not his fault michael was in that condition.
THIS BY FAR IS THE ONE TO WATCH OR!!! START FROM THE BEGINNING!! PART 1 WAS A GR8 FIGHT WITH A GR8 SADNESS! I STOPPED WATCHING BOXING AFTER THIS MATCH! RESPECT TO CHRIS AND MICHEAL PEACE AND LOVE ALWAYS;).
Respect to both men. A lot of things are said pre fight to sell tickets. The way eubank was with watson when he crossed the finish line at the marathon, and here on this video proves one thing. Of course he wanted to win but NOT at that cost. He was devastated by watsons injuries and lost that killer instict after watson 2. I am a nigel benn fan but eubank snr is total class.
Doctors said he’d never walk again, or speak and would be basically confined to bed for the rest of his life. He proved them all wrong. My vote for The most inspiring sportsman in history of sport.
Got to say ... Chris Eubank is a Legend for saying what he said there ... not many people would have thought he would have ever spoke like that back in the day....Good man Chris.
I remember the night of the fight like it was yesterday..I agree with the other person who made the comment that he should be living in luxury with top notch care 24/7 , they were happy for him to get in the ring and entertain everyone but disappeared when the guy was of no use to them..the boxing authorities should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for this tragic occurence
Amateurs in America are treated better than professionals in the UK, before during and after, before the boxing season starts you have to produce a medical and a brain scan before or after the boxing season, Many British boxers snort speed after the final medical while in America the doctor checks your heartbeat just before you enter the ring and if your heart is showing symptoms of speed you will not be allowed to enter the ring unless you are from Europe or UK the doctor is only allowed a visual check, I personally seen a British boxer get knocked out, his bod was still in fight mode while his eyes were at the back of his head fighting to get up, snorting speed may make you more active but if the brain is confused your heart can and will stop as your brain can't make sense of it
After ten years of dealing with idiot housing officers and living in burned out council flat. I had so much anger towards the system. Watching this I have been threw nothing at all. And his humility is so impressive and he is a champion.
A very emotional time for them both I'm happy this had a good ending and both fighters able to meet like this and for the record it brought a tear to my eye! Like eubank said though, it was a good fight up until that point. Do all boxers now contribute towards charities for these fellas?
I'm so, so happy that after his recovery, he sued the British Boxing Board. People who make millions, and can't even have proper medics was a shamefull thing. But Watson embraces everything a Legend is, God Bless him.
this show that not everyone is made to be a fighter. dont matter how big and strong u are, if u dont belong, u dont belong. Watson didnt belong. he had to pay for the this. love the man though, he showed he could do it until he couldnt.
@TheHeadcrunch yeah it i worth it that man loved to box its sad but its how life is i box and ive just said to my self if i cant face whats true then whats the point i might aswell give up now
what a guy ! its such a good thing for them both to come together after the fight, no matter what anyone says Eubank was also broke after that fight just think if Gerald McClellan wasnt rushed onto a plane when he was told not to travel he like Watson would have made a great recovery ... just shows what a snake Don King is
You can never compare Michael Watson with Gerald McClellan. Michael Watson was a clean living peoples champion and it is a tragic what happened to such a legend, but still he fought back and is an inspiration. Gerald grew up waging large amounts of money on dogs that were forced to fight for his sick enjoyment and financial gain. He deserves everything that happened to him!
it just goes to show that if your face fits u can make millions.i grew up watching benn and eubkank and to be quite honest he kicked the shit out of both and he did it quite easily.watson just didnt have a gimmick if u no wot i mean.if i was wiser in my youth i wooda backed him over them. no fucking problem.god bless u mr watson from the barclay family in glasgow.
A truly inspirational man, though its a shame he puts his recovery down 2 god, and not 2 the hard work he and many others around him have put in ova the years since the accident
I'm an American boxing fan since the late 70's, but had never heard of this accident. I was watching the Mancini-Kim fight when that one happened, but not this one. I have to say that I've observed that black British boxers are more classy, more articulate, & more humane than black American ones, in GENERAL. Not always, but more so than not. Lennox Lewis especially. English society teaches more self-control and self-respect in blacks, w/o all the tacky & trashy traits seen in American boxers.
I remember my dad videoing this fight for me, and watching it the next morning before i'd seen the news about what had happened...the guy was a great boxer, but that's nothing compared to what he's done since. Didnt know til i saw this what an amazing recovery he's made.

a brave warrior and a huge inspiration
Amazing strength and determination shown by Watson.
Everybody could learn from this man.
A truly touching moment at the end
Happy to see he recovered and isn't bitter about what happened. Shows Great Character
Talk about courage. I cannot even begin to imagine what this boxer and his family went through. Very good to see him back and able to contribute to this documentary.

Thanks again for posting this docu.
That last line from Eubank has now made me a lifelong fan.
VERY VERY VERY few fighters would say that.
michael watson will never be forgotten, neither will benn or eubank, legends of their time but michael is a real inspiration!

Such a nice and forgiving man. God Bless
god bless you Michael Watson.also god bless you chris Eubank it wasnt your fault.
What a truly inspirational human being, his family must be so proud.
A very great man in and out of the ring. Michael Watson deserves all the love and respect recieved by any other known boxer.
Great documentary, Watson was a warrior!
wow what an amazing guy.Michael Watson, god bless ya kid
Inspiration at its best. It bought tears to my eyes.
I cried watching this, what a man Michael Watson is. God Bless Him.
Great documentary, i remember watching this fight when i was a kid and then watching this documentary when it was aired on tv. How he is alive is a miracle and a thankfull one at that.
Favourite part of the video is when they both reunited.
Actually shed a tear.
Thank you for posting this, it is a truly inspirational story, very sad but also a great story of the power of God.
What an amazing documentery! I am so happy for Mike Watson that he has recovered so well. Ive been thinking about this match for years what happened to Mike W. Very emotional to see them meet after all these years. Thanks a lot for this fantastic documentary. The best Ive ever seen.

this man has the heart of a lion. him answering the bell in the 12 is the bravest thing i have ever seen. his recovery is due to his spirit and sheer force of will. i only hope to mirror 1/10 the courage this man has.

nice to see then both together in the end,
shame on boxing for turning its back on fighters
Such a sad scene when they met up.

It goes to show people become better people after suffering and turbulance.
Petty things no longer matter ,
A very emotional time for them both I'm happy this had a good ending and both fighters able to meet like this and for the record it brought a tear to my eye! Like eubank said though, it was a good fight up until that point. Do all boxers now contribute towards charities for these fellas?

michael watson is amazing
damn what a come back !!
i was there at the re-union it was very emotional indeed
Should be a film about his career
Michael Watson is a very brave man. It's a shame a lot of the damage could have been avoided if boxing authorities weren't so negligent.
INSPIRATION!!!
this show that not everyone is made to be a fighter.
dont matter how big and strong u are, if u dont belong, u dont belong.
Watson didnt belong. he had to pay for the this. love the man though, he showed he could do it until he couldnt.
Michael Watson looks like a famous American Comedian named Tommy Davidson.
That church looks fun.
has someone already noticed that a lot of boxers ( basicly every one of them on this video) have a lisp?
@TheHeadcrunch yeah it i worth it that man loved to box its sad but its how life is i box and ive just said to my self if i cant face whats true then whats the point i might aswell give up now
what a guy ! its such a good thing for them both to come together after the fight, no matter what anyone says Eubank was also broke after that fight
just think if Gerald McClellan wasnt rushed onto a plane when he was told not to travel he like Watson would have made a great recovery ... just shows what a snake Don King is
You can never compare Michael Watson with Gerald McClellan.
No one deserves that, dogs are dogs, humans are humans, and people change.
@ilovemyjava what u say is true when u become a boxer you hands are classed as lethal weapons
God bless the boxers and to hell with the fight promoters and negligent authorities
Hell to pay is deranged.
And scumbags attacked this great man in the London streets recently.
@mark660460 so is chris eubank.
it just goes to show that if your face fits u can make millions.i grew up watching benn and eubkank and to be quite honest he kicked the shit out of both and he did it quite easily.watson just didnt have a gimmick if u no wot i mean.if i was wiser in my youth i wooda backed him over them.
no fucking problem.god bless u mr watson from the barclay family in glasgow.
damn right was a disgrace how it happened
Tell u wat-dat church knows hw 2 worship-i like it
mcclellan ended up worse. punches are fatal.
A truly inspirational man, though its a shame he puts his recovery down 2 god, and not 2 the hard work he and many others around him have put in ova the years since the accident
