Well there was Janis Joplin, Mariska Veres/Shocking Blue, Sandy Denny, amongst others... Interested interview but I think she's wrong about that... No disrespect but maybe didn't interact with many other bands I don't know... But Mariska Veres is like the female Peter Green for me... Very talented music maybe a music style before It's Time... A talent that's just forgot about... Mariska Veres is just completely forgotten out of music by the mainstream, despite Venus being such an influential song... In fact I think people think Bananarama wrote it... Really weird...
In 2023 Grace is still the best female singer ever yet here she is again minimizing her talent and skill as though she was surrounded by people devaluing her singing her whole life.
Ever seen her performance in germany that she is talking about. She was really drunk and did nothing but insult the crowd. She kept asking the german crowd Who won the war? The band quit playng bc she wouldn't stop talking
Not true Grace. Your era had Janis Joplin, mama cass, mama michelle,Joan baez,Judy Collins, even signe in the airplane before you. We're alot of women in rock in the 60s
i think Grace was referring to a woman singing lead in a rock band. Janis Joplin was the closest to Grace although Janis was more blues, Joan Baez and Judy Collins were folkies, Cass Elliot, Michelle Philips and Cher were pop. Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar of course would later follow in Grace's category.
Why on earth would she say she was the only woman in rock at that time? My god. Janis was far beyond her and several others. This must have still been her drinking days
She was one of the few straight up rock n roll singer, Janis was more bluesy. And who exactly is beyond Grace because you only cited Janis? Who are the several others?
@Lastname First... this interview is edited. She was actually referring to when she was the front woman in her first band The Great Society. At that time... Janis had not come back to San Francisco and joined Big Brother and the Holding company.. And when she did for the first year she was only one of the singers not the front woman. The only other woman on the scene was Signe Andersen who was the original female singer in The Jefferson Airplane. Marty Balin had her simply as a harmony / background to his lead vocals. She only had one solo vehicle in her time in the Airplane. So yes... She was the only woman on the scene fronting a band. As far as her talent she is extremely underrated. She had the strongest contralto on the scene with a killa' vibrato. She played multiple instruments and she was a songwriter as well. She was the triple threat. During a gig at Winterland the Airplane was notified of Janis''s death. Marty Ballin was completely distraught and could not perform. Grace had to carry the show and her vocals are amazing. awesome interview. she was the best female singer and i wish she would have made more hard rock solo albums in the 1980s. she looks awesome here.
gifted, intelligent, incredible of sarcastic humour, expressive eyes, unmatched voice & what a fox (she was a model before a singer
This was great to see. Glad that you posted it.
Her eyes stare deep into the darkest corners of your subconsciousness.
I think her irises are slightly larger than average.

that should have been the best rock tour of 1978 but grace ruined the tour being drunk. earth was the best album of 1978.

She has always been a strange obnoxious woman. She once said she had no friends. I can understand that.
You just need thick skin, but she ain’t that bad.

such bullshit. she never said that. if anything the opposite was true with too many friends saying "come on Grace let's get loaded"
you are describing yourself not grace. she is a very intriguing woman in a sea of no talents pretending to be singers like madonna or taylor swift.
