    Had a Seiko Diver's watch back in the 90s. I had no complaints. After watching your review of the Tissot Seastar... I would love to own one for a change. Awesome review!

    I have a deep blue seastar with the black rubber strap. The lume fell out of the bezel and my AD sent it out for repair, it came back with a new bezel with engraved numbers and markings that are painted a white/silver. Much more visible and looks outstanding! The P80 inside runs at -2 seconds a day.

    You can use the Seiko for diving and Tissot as a dress watch, both nice watches

    Seiko in my opinion is the clear winner. Seiko is one of the few companies doing and using every single component in-house. Plus PADI put their name on it for a very good reason. They could have choose any other diver. And in that price range no swiss diver can beat the king turtle. Not at that price in my opinion. And the way that bezel feel. The craftsmanship is just next level.

      Depends what you value in a watch. The Seiko compared here is a good choice, or if you want to stay Swiss the Mido Ocean Stars are very highly regarded by most.

    Nice review. I have 2 Seastars both with rubber straps - one with orange indices on black face and the other a deep blue sunburst face that looks great and the bezel has much brighter numbering than the one in this video, but I just bought it in 2021 so maybe they improved it. I have 3 other Seiko watches but not the SBDC051 reviewed, but I like them all. Thanks for the review!

    Tissot has higher prestige in Asia as compared to Seiko who is known for affordability or cheap masses' watch. This is just for your info. Anyhow, I like your bubbly way of presentation. Keep it up.

    • @joshjamesyoutube
      @joshjamesyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know if that’s true for all of Asia, perhaps China where western brands are held in much higher regard and domestic product is less so, but in Japan (my home country) and in the West, Seiko is a well respected brand (in the same way Toyota is). While they do make (fantastic) cheap watches, the Grand Seiko line and technology like Spring Drive is so far ahead of what the Europeans do. With the European brands you’re really paying for the name and not much more. Cheers!

    • @nanhinting7447
      @nanhinting7447 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general, most countries around Asia would rather go for "Swiss Made" watches if not for the expensive prices. I cannot deny that Seiko make good affordable watches but between a Grand Seiko and a Rolex, I am sure most will choose a Rolex. You may not know, there was a time when Rolex watches were been smuggled to South Korea and Japan. Likewise, the Mercedes is still held high in regards as compared to Lexus.

    • @cy4624
      @cy4624 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nanhinting7447 I am asian but thats the Asian mentality I can't stand..its "label"above all else. They buy the "maker" as many are afraid to like and appreciate what sometimes is plainly obvious because someone doesn't recognize it. Its also called massive insecurity.
      Seiko is moving upmarket and having some difficulty because its not known as a luxury in the mainstream but those in the know, who owned both Rolex and GS, and who already had enough labels to care less about what others recognize, unless in denial, knows which one is superior in every term from finish, history, technical innovations and performance, besides marketing . I still love Rolex for timeless design but that is subjective.
      Many products that succeed in Asia simply has to price the item ridiculously high and tout, its the most expensive and thats all people need to know..from stereos,watches, clothes, etc...its laughable...people need to have confidence to buy and wear what they like.

    frankly tissot built quality is not good as seiko, may be powermatic has advantage but on this range go for victorinox inox divers if you want swiss made robust divers. it has good finishing, strongest of all and yes its quartz but you ll love when you hold it and feel the quality

    • @joshjamesyoutube
      @joshjamesyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree! I love Victorinox watches - I only have a few automatic pieces from them, but have had many more in the past. The Inox Automatic which uses the ETA movement is rated down to 200M I believe, so it should do as well as the Seiko.

    I would have preferred Seiko giving a gold color on the bezel number, similar to one of the Seiko Turtles.

    Seiko looks better built.but Tissot has a better movement. But looks cheap on the outside.

    • @matthewdavis8199
      @matthewdavis8199 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 80 hour power reserve movements the Swatch Group is throwing in their mid rangers like Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, etc. are overrated. This is coming from a guy who loves the interaction with his watches of manual winding! And give Seiko credit for producing truly in-house movements. I adore my Omega SMPC, but the fact that the truly unique co-axial escapement finds its base in (although highly decorated) an ETA 2892-A2 still sorta kinda bugs me. To Swatch's credit, aside for the addition of some plastic parts, it is based on the venerable 2824-2 movement.

    • @joshjamesyoutube
      @joshjamesyoutube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steven Freeman Hi there! The Seiko definitely is better built, and it does seem like in terms of movement that many share your opinion. I like the P80 as a movement a lot but I do wish they didn’t build them with as much plastic inside, and that the beat rate was a bit higher. Cheers!

    Why do some people say, the tissot would only cost 400$ in America. That's pretty irritating for someone living in Europe where it costs 700€. Or is the 400$ a grey market price?

    • @joshjamesyoutube
      @joshjamesyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeckit XF Hi! You can find the Tissot somewhat frequently from authorized department stores here in the US for between $450 and $550 USD. Bloomingdale’s (our version of Selfridges/DeBijenkorf/Galleries Lafayette) and their sister brand Macy’s are authorized dealers for the Swatch Group and usually run discounts that can be stacked with a coupon code or something - I paid $500 USD for mine I think when Bloomingdale’s did 25% off our US retail price ($725 or about €650?) plus another 10% off code on top of that. Shipped from Swatch too. I will say that I’m over there semi frequently for work and if you’re ever able to get to the Swatch boutiques in the duty free areas of major airports in the UK/EU, they’re about €500 or so. Definitely cheaper than prices on the high street, where a good deal of your cost is the VAT. Hope this helps!!!

      @@joshjamesyoutube Hey Josh!
      Thanks for the quick and long reply! Definitely helps! Unfortunately there aren't too many duty free areas left here in Germany but this way I know I don't waste money when buying it from an authorized dealer for 700€.

      Jeckit XF Hi there!!! Sorry - TH-cam doesn’t notify me of replies to comments (maybe I’m doing something wrong) but anyway I didn’t see this until now! Ah - love Germany! I haven’t kept up with everything going on but I will say that I know some of the U.K. stores do dispatch to other EU countries and if you can get around the U.K. VAT via Brexit that might be worth a shot! Also, if you ever are able to get to Switzerland, they’ll generally knock off 20-30% if you pay in cash (paper money). That’s true of most Swiss watches including the prestige brands like Rolex/Omega/JaegerLC, etc. Cheers!!!!
