    Excellent analysis of the series. I started on Animal Crossing way back in summer of 2003. It was by chance that my friends got the game and showed it to me. It literally took over my summer and most of the year to come, playing up to 10 hours a day. Then I remember hearing that they announced Animal Crossing Wild World for the DS. I literally saved my money from my summer part time job to buy my own DS and Wild World. I remember being so excited about simply being able to change hats…..hahaha. I never played City Folk during it’s prime time since I didn’t have a Wii. But I did get New Leaf and really enjoy it to this day. New Horizons is a great game, but it never hooked me as much as the old ones did. I found myself almost overwhelmed with the amount of crafting and customization options. I’m not saying they’re bad, I just personally can’t get into them. My island to this day is still just an island with trees like an older Animal Crossing town would be. I always liked the “make the best of what you’re dealt” gameplay from the older games. I still enjoy the no pressure gameplay that you mentioned, I can enjoy fishing and wandering around my boring old fashioned island haha. Great video, would like to see more of your analysis on Animal Crossing.

    As somebody who's grown up with the series, this was such a cool and insightful look into how newer players understand and respond to it! The way you talk about Animal Crossing reminds me why I love it so much (●´⌓`●) ♡ it really is lightening in a bottle -- and literally NO other games compare to it, as evidenced in the way that people struggle to find a "similar" title/series. This was a delightful viewing, and I can't wait to see what else you create. You've got something special and I'm so glad you're a part of the AC community! Video essays for the win! ♡

    this video resonates with me a lot. animal crossing is my favorite game of all time, ive sunk over 4000 hours into new horizons alone. i owned 6 copies of new leaf, just so i could make different town themes. being so obsessed with the series, for a while it was the only game i played. to this day, there is really no other game i think compares. the style, sound effects, characters, customization and gameplay are really nailed perfectly. i think animal crossing has a specific advantage over other games for me personally, in that it has been around in my life for so long. the games mostly have the same villagers and characters. seeing my favorite villagers in each game change with the updated graphical style is has been so crazy. new horizons letting you place items outside was such a “no way” moment and led to customization that had not been seen before in the series. things like that, just seeing how the games changed so drastically while (at least for me) being able to keep that “animal crossing” feel is special. not only have i become attached to the game, but the people who worked on the game. its kinda weird i havent met them or anything lol but i just have so much respect for them and i love hearing them talk about the game in interviews. eguchi came up with the idea for animal crossing after feeling isolated when he moved to kyoto to work at nintendo. the “communication” description of this game is so true. emphasis on friends and family was in mind with this game. animal crossing really does make me feel less alone, and has gotten me through tough times. i think the vibe is hard to replicate and the uniqueness makes ac so special for me😭❤️

      @dearestdimple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thank you so much for your long and thoughtful comment I really enjoyed reading it. Your experience with the game is so amazing! I have never heard of someone having multiple copies of New Leaf to have different towns I would LOVE to see them I bet they are amazing! My New Leaf town is just an uncontrolled field of flowers basically 😂
      I feel a certain connection with the creators of the game too! It’s odd because interviews with them are pretty scarce but especially Eguchi, I think the feeling of loneliness is just so relatable and makes me feel a sort of kinship to him. I also feel like Totaka (KK) is just the coolest dude haha.
      It’s just such a unique series and I’m glad my video resonated with you! Do you play any other games?

      @vanillamilkbread ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dearestdimple honestly it was difficult to maintain them LOL the flowers multiplying all the time definitely caused some issues 🤣
      i also really like story of seasons, rhythm heaven, tomodachi life, mario and recently breath of the wild, but my second favorite game franchise is splatoon! it has such a different vibe compared to other games in its genre, everything about it is very stylish and is a lot of fun. when im feeling burnt out on ac, splatoon is usually my first choice haha. the game even shares some of the team from animal crossing, and theres a lot of references to each other in both games which is super cute. it gives a similar feeling of seeing how things change and grow with each game and i can tell the creator, nogami, cares so much for the franchise and fanbase its built, considering its still relatively new. theres quite a few interviews and videos where you can just see how much passion he has and makes me even happier to see how far the game has come! i think that kinda stuff means more when its from nintendo since its not very often we hear from the game devs in general.

    I have played since the GameCube. Whenever there's a rainy day, I instantly get the desire to play animal crossing. There are aspects from the older games I wish they had implemented into the New Horizons. And though the Gc game has it's flaws, there's just something about that game that always makes me want to go back to it- I think because of the Acre system, it feels more like an actual forest/woods. A vr animal crossing would be amazing- the trees being taller, not being able to see it all, but feel immersed- the coziness of houses- I feel like it'd have the potential to be the best Animal crossing game.

    I am a lifetime AC player and love the game, it's truly unlike any other. I love how much there is to do and the new decorating aspect of ACNH, The only thing I miss is the less repetitive and more 'colorful' character dialogue haha. But I truly love the real time aspect. My gf has never played AC and doesn't see the appeal bc it is so slow. She always asks what I do and why I play it so much, but the fact that there are seasons and slight new things every day, whether it be different presents floating in the sky, NPCS, or items in the shop, even if I have no personal objective I'm working on, I still get the itch to check the game every couple of days. The fact that it's totally self paced and so communication based is great. And I love that there are no meters or metrics for judging how good of friends you are with villagers aside from your eventual reception of their pictures

    • @dearestdimple
      @dearestdimple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I can totally see how it’s difficult to explain the appeal to someone who doesn’t get why it’s so lovely, especially people who are into more fast paced games. I’ve never though about it before like that but you’re so right it’s awesome that you don’t have a “friendship gauge” so to speak other than villager photos. I’m in a pickle with one of mine Lindberg I’ve had him for months and given him presents every day, Katrina says we have “the strongest of bonds” but no photo I’m starting to worry he gave it to me and I lost it or something!

    I started my Animal Crossing journey with the launch of City Folk on the wii. There was something so special about coming home every day and logging into the game. I enjoyed visiting the city and talking to my villagers. I was always invested in sending them letters and making sure that my town stayed clean and happy for them to live in. After City Folk, I got Wild World and played the pair together until New Leaf finally came out. I played from launch for a while. That was the first game I visited people and really interacted with the AC community by making silly videos for TH-cam off my iPod Touch and visiting dream addresses. I preordered New Horizons and have played it consistently since release. My playing has moved from daily to weekly but this is the longest AC game I have continued to play. Your analysis of the game is perfect and really captures what makes these games so special.
    I began the games because I loved anything with talking animals but I stayed with the series because that lonely little girl with a lack of social skills felt like she had real friends in those villagers. The new villager interactions in New Horizons is why I continue the play the game without burn out. I get on weekly just to see my villagers and send a few letters or buy them a random gift. I love just running around and taking pictures of what they are doing. And about a year ago, I restarted New Leaf and am now playing that every other day. No other game is just like Animal Crossing and honestly I am more than okay with that. I love how special it feels to be able to say the franchise is unique and personal without having an entire genre of games to compare it too

    You hit the nail on the head with this evaluation! I’ve been playing AC since the GameCube version (although I’m just playing New Leaf for the first time since I never had a DS) and it’s always been that place, like you said, where I can spend just a few minutes or quite a few hours with no threat of consequence. It’s always there waiting if you come and go. I liked that you emphasized the communication aspect. For me personally it has been a way to keep in touch with my sisters as we’ve grown older and moved geographically apart. Being able to visit each others towns and islands has been a point of connection for years, but became especially meaningful during the initial pandemic lockdowns when we couldn’t get together in real life. We still get to “visit” in game much more often than in person just due to distance. There’s definitely something magical and unique about Animal Crossing!

    animal crossing's virality and recent explosion of popularity really touches my heart. ive been playing AC ever since i got wild world for easter (random, i know haha) in 2009. it used to be a bit of a lonely game, since very few people knew about it. BUT! when i found the rare person who did know about the game, we instantly bonded over its magic--the villagers, the music, the events, our museum collections, just everything. and when we visited each other's towns, i remember being so happy to finally share my magical little world with someone, and being delighted at seeing someone else's magical world! i am so, so fond of this franchise. new horizons was personally my least favorite installment in the series, so i hope that the new AC game is more like the older ones. if not, ill always have the original gamecube version, wild world, city folk, and new leaf :) great video!

    The real time clock is that important to people? I can implement that then. Wasn't sure how I wanted to do the clock anyways, and now I have ideas.
    Animal crossing was always a resource management game to me. (Which is one of my favorite genres) When you started stating there was no task list, I was surprised you didn't see it that way. To me, it's a list of daily tasks to achieve before the stores closed so I can have freetime fulfilling the museum tasks and other global goals, all while trying to collect everything and make sure decorations were on point and being improved. The idea of spending the day doing what I wanted never occurred to me. It's definitely something to think about going forward though.

      @@dearestdimple Yeah, I loved my modern room so much on DS. Struggling to pull off some new fengshui techniques in the switch one, but I've only gotten 4 days to play it thus far because I don't actually own it.
      Yeah, I'm going for a game similar to SimCity Creator and Social Empires. Mostly using it as a stepping stone for my dream game, but it's gonna have a ton of unique worldbuilding to it. 3-4 races of people(debating if it'll start with protohuman, or skip that to start as one of the 3 races of human/elf/beastfolk), eukaryote-up unique evolutionary history, and refreshing uniqueness due to it being a world without metals. (Metals are still bioavalable, just not in concentrations where people would ever make stuff out of them) It's gonna be in voxel isometric because that's easy enough for me to pull off without hiring anyone. (I got no money)
      I'm really excited for it, and am working on following Code Monkey's 10+ hour free course rn, just with my own voxel art. Though in freetime I'm working on worldbuilding stuff, hence why I'm bingeing Animal Crossing videos. I love the feel, and want to draw on it for things like being in the town you create outside of wartime and seeing how people react, kind of like a mix of Animal Crossing and Drawf Fortress in that aspect.

    As a kid playing wild world, i learned so many things in this game. Furniture styles and the fun of interior design, all of the facts from the museum (i fucking loved listening to blathers tell me about my stuff), and that communicating is SO important. Even when people come off cold, they likely have issues that aren’t your fault and being nice is the best policy. Helped me understand bullying. Dissappointing others or them being angry with you isn’t the end, you can try again. And sometimes, things change in a way you don’t like and that’s just a part of life. The series will always be close to my heart.

    I, too, fell in love with AC during March of 2020. I never really knew much about it but only heard the name like you had. I fell in love with it too! I liked that I didn't 'have' to play the previous games to play this one. Funny how you said goodbye Rocket... I am so eager for Rocket to leave my island too!

      @dearestdimple  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that’s so cool we have like everything in common 😂 I have always felt inferior to the people who played it from the beginning but at least we found the game eventually right? Rocket was one of my original 3 and I didn’t mind her at first until I realized how much cuter every one else was! I’m not a huge fan of the sisterly personality either. Thank you so much for your comment! 😊

I've played AC on the Wii (don't even remember right now which version that was) and I know I did enjoy it for a while but that was about 15 years ago, if not more. I watched other videos where I often felt kind of meh about the aesthetics of the game, while some showed some lovely areas that almost convinced me but your video was the decider, as I was watching it I felt myself smiling and getting a warm feeling. What makes it so special for me is definitely the sound effects and the music always by your side
    Also that you can collect so many insects and fish
    I could go on and on haha 😅

      (honestly when i see people who have also played on gamecube i'm like wow )
      It was so hard to catch the fish because it kept moving every second you threw your fishing rod (worse than in new leaf 😂)(same for bugs in new leaf you can stop and creep in on the bug but in wild world you can't do that and it's a pain 🤐) hope this made sense ?
      My favourite sound effect is walking on sand hehe always loved it
      Also the cicadas in the summer 🥰
      Or when you step closer to your town tree in new leaf and the music dims a little and you hear the wind blowing (i know kinda basic haha )
      For npc is dr shrunk the music before he told a joke it's just so goofy 🤪

      Even though catching bugs and fish is so much easier in new horizons I still have never caught a scorpion or a tarantula they knock me out every time!!!
      I love the moment when you get close to the town tree too it’s so lovely!

      I don't know what it's like in new horizons (acnh-less here )(played it twice thanks to a family member though😄) but do you think maybe the wasps and tarantulas are the new bee/wasps of the series ? 😂
      Also after you review the history of your town when there is a double rainbow and you are right in the center/aligned to take the pic it's so satisfying ☺
      I wished they would bring him back he was so funny but idk since the reactions are taught by villagers now
      I don't think so 😢
