This would have been a beloved classic if they just replaced the "0" spaces with prizes and upped the values of all monetary spaces. Television 101: When you do a "celebration episode, you accentuate everything.
I may be showing my age here, but I distinctly remember an all Plinko day back in Bob Barker's run when it was still a relatively new game, somewhere like 1984 or 85. If anyone has a recording of this episode it would make for an interesting comparison to see how Bob handled that day.
In the 90s, the UK version, "Bruce's Price is Right", got a little creative when they played Plinko. Sure, the dollar amounts were lower than what we'd see on the American show, but after the up to five discs (as they called them) were all dropped, the dollar amounts were removed to reveal the slots saying "win" and "lose" alternately. The contestant was given the option to risk their winnings for the top prize in the game, such as a car or a trip. At least the execution of the game went well there.
I've seen "El Precio Justo" from Spain and "O Preco Certo" from Portugal use a format like this, too. And you'll probably notice how many props on their shows look very similar to the ones BPIR used.
That's probably how I'd have it played, only instead of dropping the bonus chip (or as Joe Pasquale called it on the most recent UK version, the Golden Plinko Disc of Desire) for a prize, there'd be multipliers at the bottom. For example: 2× - 3× - 5× - 0× - 10× - 0× - 5× - 3× - 2× Naturally, whichever number the chip lands, the money increases accordingly.
bluebear1985 BTW, one other thing-- in the last series of BPIR, the "Win/Lose" slots added pound signs to the mix. If one was hit, you didn't get the prize, but your money was doubled.
And now, thanks to Buffalo Games and Puzzles (not Hasbro), they made a home version of “Plinko” is where you can play it at home. I saw it at Target, and I did not get it. So I chose to get “Bulls-Eye Ball”, and I did. “Bulls-Eye Ball” is a decent game and it’s similar to “Super Ball”, a retired pricing game on the “Price Is Right”, and it’s still a fun game.
I think they should do another all cars show where every prize is a car And then they can play more then one pricing game(any number, that's too much, gas money, pass the buck, temptation, and money game)
They'd probably still play just one car game per half in that case, and play non-car games (Squeeze Play for example) for cars, and they've actually done all-car shows a couple times in this way
Hoping you include that one episode from like a week ago where there were two contestants who ran up on stage who didn't win in contestants' row. That was hilarious.
I should probably also bring this up-- Germany's version, Der Preis ist Heiss ("The Price is Hot"), also used prizes (three, in this case) rather than money for Plinko. But their format was also different-- here, instead of money, the slots went 3-2-0-1-0-2-3 in order. If the chip was to land in "3", you got the cheapest prize of the lot, if it landed in "2", you got the middle-priced prize, and if it landed in "1", you got the most expensive of the bunch. I don't need to tell you what happens if the chip landed in "0"... :D BTW, you could win three chips on that version rather than five. And no freebie either.
I really miss Rich Fields. He was the perfect announcer for the show, and although he IS doing very well, his dream got crushed and I will never forgive DismantleMedia for firing him and also George Gray for unscrupulously taking his place. This will go down in history as being the decision that killed the show. Mike Richards, the Executive Producer will be responsible. Folks around the country are flooding the message boards, writing letters to the network, and even calling the production company asking for Rich to be reinstated. Rich was an amazing talent, and was much more than just an announcer to the show. He was truly a co-host to Drew, and valued member of the TPIR family. He was hand picked by Bob Barker himself...yet this guy Richards thinks he knows what will work better on the show than the man who ran it for 36 years? Give me a break! It has been five years, yes, but the show is sinking fast. I am holding out hope that Rich will be returned to national TV in some way. Once that does not happen, they will go as well, and the show will surly be cancelled. It's a train wreck these days, and extremely hard to watch... and even worse to listen to with comedians as announcers. What a joke Richards has turned this American tradition into. I wish Rich the best in whatever he does. I am praying to God every day that he will get a show of his own, and get the last laugh. We're pulling for you Rich and will gladly watch your new show!! I still can't believe they fired Rich. He was so much an integral part of the show as Johnny and Rod were. It's just not the same without him. I marvel at how talented he was and how his articulate descriptions of prizes created so much excitement. To have replaced him with an ugly guy like George Gray was such a MISTAKE!! Don't they understand what an exceptional announcer they had, and that NO ONE can ever fill his shoes. The Price Is Right just isn't the same. If you keep making unpopular decisions like this, your market share will definitely take a hit. We won't be watching anymore.
My opinion may not be popular, but everything about the modern era of TPIR (post-Bob) rubs me the wrong way. I don't ever watch it and hate it when it's on somewhere nowadays. Way too many changes that are totally unenjoyable, and even when they try to salute probably the best game in its history, even that goes wrong.
I remember when this was being promoted and thought to myself "Big mistake!". As difficult as it is to win the top cash prizes on Punch-A-Bunch, Time Is Money, It's in the Bag, and Pay the Rent especially, ALL of those games HAVE had the top prize won. ALL of them. In the now almost 40 year existence of Stinko, the top announced prize ($25,000, upped to $50,000) has been won a total of NEVER...The pricing part of the game is meh at best, unique but meh, and just as others gripe that perfect pricing should equal an automatic win of a pricing game, that simply is not the case here. I remember one episode a woman won all 4 chips, had a total of 5, and all 5 went into the zero slots...every blessed one. My fear of heights not withstanding, I truly dread when this game is in the rotation. So much hype and barely if ever is the game itself exciting. Way too much fluff for this game. And to feature it for all 6 pricing game slots.....huge mistake.
And on top of all this mess...given it was played six times in a row and is usually played once a week, you'd think they'd let Plinko have the next five weeks off. Nope! As for the special itself, a lot of the cheering and such was added in post -- the audience was tired of seeing Plinko repeatedly, especially since the show went through the game's reveal six times.
This was one of the MANY-A reasons WHY I can't with the Drew Carey era of "Price is Right" and why I don't watch it. I will ALWAYS associate "Price is Right" with Bob Barker, PURE and SIMPLE.....
That episode is the case study of why Plinko is one of the worst pricing games and belongs on LMaD... Out of $270 000, 2 cars & the trip to London only $10 000 was won.... it also should be pointed out here that NO ONE HAS EVER WON PLINKO compared to the 4 people who have won $100 000 and the one person who won $200 000 on Pay the Rent.
I've never seen why people are so crazy about Plinko and Golden Road....don't they want games they could actually win? Nobody has ever technically 'won' Plinko (getting all 5 chips in the middle slot), and I've always imagined behind the scenes someone got fired the few times someone actually won the $200,000 car in Golden Road. I know it would be too expensive to rebuild the props, but it would be nice if they revived six of the retired games for one more play (aren't we far away removed from BB's sex scandals to bring back "Bump!" Again?). I'd hate to think these games are so popular BECAUSE people keep losing them. I prefer games people actually win like Spelling Bee and Clock Game.
A year behind but here would be my picks for a show. 1. Bump 2. Walk of Fame 3. Add 'Em Up 4. $uper $aver 5. Credit Card 6. On the Spot (Redesigned and easier to understand.)
Michael Willuz Even an all-Cliffhangers special would probably bore me after a while. In fact, NO pricing game deserves its own special, no matter how popular it is or how much they want to hype it up.
Michael Willuz I agree wholeheartedly, at least about noting a big Plinko fan. At least with other cash games (in particular, Punch-A-Bunch), you have better chances of winning the top amount of money.
Imagine an all "The Golden Road" special, or "Three Strikes" special? Although, I do wish Super Ball was still around because I know half those people don't know how to throw a skee ball; in that case, I would watch an all Super Ball special.
Or an all-Ten Chances special. Or an all-That's Too Much special. Or an all-Stack The Deck special... ...Or any all-[insert basically too difficult, much-reviled game here] special.
You guys do a good job on this page. There's some stuff that may be garbage, but it can provide a good laugh sometimes. By the way, I have a suggestion for a GSG induction. Would you consider "The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour"?
If they wanted to increase more big wins on Plinko, why take away one Zero either on the left or the right side. Or if they wanted to add trips, cars and exercisers put it on one of the zeroes not on one of the money spaces. This is pure luck with all the bouncing wedges and the bouncing Plinko Chips weren't going right on that episode I guess.
Well, they were celebrating 30 years of Plinko which is why they did all Plinko Games. A lot of Price Fans prefer to play Plinko over any other Pricing Game, but they're are other Games besides Plinko to win money. I don't understand fans obsession over Plinko. It is one of my favorite Pricing Games growing up, but of course rotating Pricing Games every day is highly recommended and necessary.
David, the problems with $1,000,000 Plinko (and $500,000 Plinko, for that matter) were that 1) only the center slot was upped and 2) both players seemed to be going out of their way to NOT hit the $100K/$200K slot.
The "New" Fun & Games Channel Should done like this: first 5 disks the slots would be 1000-2000-3000-500-20000-500-3000-2000-1000. If player got at least 3 discs, they have a chance to get item prizes that increases in value to the center, whilst the slots next to the center are 0

Its like the Plinko board was possessed by some evil spirit that would always divert the chips straight to the zeros. That's rough.
Even though this Plinko special was a gigantic disaster, Plinko will always have a place in my heart. Especially since it's been around for 35 years.
At least during the Bob Barker era, TPIR didn't devote an entire show to a popular pricing game.
I may be showing my age here, but I distinctly remember an all Plinko day back in Bob Barker's run when it was still a relatively new game, somewhere like 1984 or 85. If anyone has a recording of this episode it would make for an interesting comparison to see how Bob handled that day.
Plinko is the most famous pricing games on The Price is Right. I didn't see this special, but now I'm glad I didn't.
But now I uploaded it to the Archive for all to see in it's HORRIFYING GLORY.
If they did an all-day Temptation on TPIR, it would be a complete waste of time cause everyone would take the gifts
