I had ranked this song #5 on Mayday, until I saw it live in Boston. That vaulted it to the top, just below Survive overall. Something about the live passion of the song, and I think also Dany's improved voice since the original recording. The very high notes in her voice sound a bit thin and reedy (en-TU-martirio), and even more so on the early versions from Argentina, and I don't find that very appealing (there are quite a few male singers who do that, and I really find that very unappealing). It's the kind of thing that top female rock sopranos such as Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar can make work. But by last year she had strengthened her voice to the point where the power and conviction really came through. The more I listen to this song, the more in awe I become. There is just so much goodness here. The opening, with a strong Spanish classical feel to it, until the hard rock comes in. Pau's drum pattern in the second verse -- I still haven't worked out exactly what it is. It sounds like it might be half-time triplets over a 4-beat or something, but I can't recognize it that well (you said it's something very unusual). And the coda, where Dany's voice soars into the stratosphere above Pau and Ale's backing vocals, with her guitar carrying the rising line skyward in that final solo. They've picked exactly the right tempo for it to be majestic without plodding along. I think it's one of their finest songs to date.
Hey Robert! That’s really interesting about the progress of her voice, which i certainly agree with, but i hadnt paid attention to the changes in it for this specific song yet. I’ll be listening closely to the pre studio version (if i can find that yt video again) and the studio one for these things, thanks! And yea the Spanish classical opening has always caught my attention… and well yes everything you said i fully agree with! Thanks again for the comment… i feel we all have so much to contribute to the conversation, and I’m truly appreciative of the time people are taking to provide personal commentary on the song.
These sisters are overwhelmingly talented!! This EPIC song is a rock anthem! Awesome live performance!! Stunning audio and video quality! Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
This song punches me in the gut, because I lived that life... in love with my own "martyrdom"... for many years. Yeah, it's emotional. Fortunately, I eventually shed it... but I wish this song had come out 30 years ago. Yes, these young ladies weren't even a gleam in the eyes of their parents back then, but the message is something I needed to hear at that time. They are indeed "wise beyond their years".
Another great reaction for another spectacular song by this tremendous band. It is very emotional to see Pau and her sisters enjoying her presentation so much, she infects us with her energy and feelings that she cannot contain. Dany's solos are beautiful, her voice is the best, I got goosebumps when her voice tore at the end, and her connection with the crowd is almost automatic. Ale... She's great, perfect in her executions and spoiled by people no matter what she does. I think so, that for some video shots they used the collaboration of some fans, right? The final result is fabulous. Thank you for sharing your reaction, opinion and analysis, these are the best. Greetings from México !!

Yes 100% agreed!!! And thank you SO much for your kind words about my reaction and analysis! Yes when Dany’s voice broke I just was really too emotional to talk about it… That would have been the straw that broke the camel’s back if I had acknowledged it… I would have needed more paper napkins lol
Great reaction! In love with The Warning and I can’t say enough about their talent. The fact that they are sisters from Mexico adds a big plus. I concur with you in many ways. I first moved to the USA back in 89 ‘ (I know, I’m a seasoned Warning disciple ) I started listening to songs in English and I did the same thing. I used to look for the lyrics and then translate the song myself. Back then the Internet was in its infancy CDs Radio and MTV were your main sources of music. I vividly remember watching Eric Clapton singing Tears in Heaven And tears came out of my eyes Till this day That song “hunts me” Needless to say what Martirio does to me. I'm a father of a Beautiful 6yo.girl and together we watch as she calls The Warning... “My daughters” She doesn't know all the lyrics but she sings most of the choir. I have tickets to see their performance in LA and Santa Ana. This will be my second time attending their concert and I hope to see many of you rocking out. Viva The Warning!!!!
Don-Music, I love your reactions/analysis, what you say about the creative/artistic aspect and the emotional dimension as well as the technical stuff is so good! I just got started with your videos (watched CHOKE) but I'm gonna catch up with the other ones. I love this song so much!! It gets so deep inside me lately, it hits right in the feels!!...and the lyrics, just wow!!...I have cried a few times with it, also because these times have been really tough for a few years now (I got to find a way and climb my way out of this)...I got emotional with you here. And thinking that at first listen I didn't love this song, but now it's my favorite, at least up there with the very top ones. This performance is totally epic!! Even with the final part when Dany's voice was breaking...poor Dany but in a way it actually adds to the feeling. And that complex drum beat caught my attention from the first time. The Warning drums always convey a lot of emotion adding a lot to the song, it's incredible, so much more than just carrying the beat, sometimes it sounds even melodical, it's like she's speaking through the drums. And Pau always plays cool nuances and variations, same with the bass and of course the guitar, many times it changes from one verse or chorus to the next one either subtly or dramatically or something in between. Examples are in every song but to mention a couple, here in Martirio how the bass part from the second chorus is different than the first time, it adds a subtle melodical hint to the last part of the oh-oh's...so tasty. Same in Z, just to mention one more, the small changes in the part that goes "watch out..." and the big changes during the guitar solo... Ok, I could go for hours here... I watched your analysis of the ERROR album and it is absolutely fantastic! Everything was so on point. Not only did I love it but it clicked in such a way that no other ever did, I agreed with every single detail and every nuance so accurately that it was just mind- blowing...like magic. See, I am very critical so even in the best of cases i always have little disagreements... let alone things that I'd put a bit different and such. Unbelievable, I got a weird feeling of having an older version of myself right before my eyes!!!... hahaha... I have so much to say but got to go...and this is way too long. I might come back (idk if it's too much and just gets annoying) or just comment on the videos i haven't watched yet (don't know if you read old videos comments though). Ok ...stay heathy, stay happy, have peace of mind...
That might be the most amazing comment I’ve ever received. 🥺😂🥹😀🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🙏. Thank you so so much. You’ve made my evening. I’m inconsistent and sometimes my words are too quiet in my videos… I’m working on it. Wow, again, just wow. Thank you
@@don-music Yeah, my pleasure 😉...haha...no, Im kidding, but honestly thanks to you Don! I really appreciate your videos! 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍😀 Many times I don't get much from reaction videos, might have to do with the fact that I know music and many videos are really superficial (there are super good ones though, but only a few), but yours are just great...you go through the artistic aspect of it, the human side and the tech part and all feels very honest, so yeah... Interesting and either emotional or very fun...ok, or maybe always both... 😉 😁. (I mean emotional in a broad sense, not about "gettong emotional".) You are the best!! 🔥🔥🤘🔥🔥 And yeah, your voice was low but much better than some other video I watched (can't recall now). I wish the best for you, Don!
@@don-music About the drums, I love how Pau plays a very similar high-hat triplet on DISCIPLE on the verse to mix it up: First she goes with two chssh chssh with the high-hat fully released (hitting hard) to land again hitting on the down beat while closing (all quarter notes), but next time she plays the tripplet to land on the beat (just like here in Martirio, Stewart Coppeland style) thus alternating every two bars. This simple "mixing it up" adds so much color. And about subtleties, in this same part Pau does that thing you said: she opens the h-hats ever so slightly together with the snare. One more: Next, leading to the pre-chorus she goes opening the hhats gradually in a crescendo but goes back closing very slightly for a moment before opening totally...displaying great control of the hh pedal! She unintentionally demonstrates almost all the hh tricks you mentioned here. All those thing add so much color and power, and keep your attention engaged. After that, as we all know, she does the exact same thing while singing...and drum-roll...and linear fill with doubble kicks... Sorry if it's too long...but it's all you talked about right there on DISCIPLE!
Another incredible analysis video, thanks. Question though, it's been said that Ale plays with "high action" which was explained to me that the gap from the strings to the frets are larger than normal, requiring more force to push the string down onto the fret. When you were talking about how Ale doesn't have any fret noise during a slide, was wondering if that was helped by the high action. And did you know that Ale plays with high action? You didn't mention it and I'm not sure where I heard it from.
Don had talked about Ale's high action before. As had a few other technical reactors. That extra gap between the fret board & strings makes the slide sound fretless if the strings are plucked accurately. Requires extra strength in her digits. Here is Ale ripping apart an apple with her bare hands about 3 years back. Till now this short video has garnered 52000+ views. Talk about fandom 😂 th-cam.com/users/shortsyDhOvr1stU0
@Don-Music - Kudos to you sir!!! You are among an Elite Few that present your reaction with your image in a small window, while allowing the talent to occupy the entire screen!! Plus you have that FM radio tambour of voice, rather than loud high pitched diatribes like some. Thumbs up to you!! Great comments!!
hey there Gen Boyer..... much appreciated! Yes, it's about the artist, not about my ego... I get as small as possible while still being visible. That's kind of the point here... I want to discuss the artist, not me. When I do a video about my own music, I'm full screen (like in my bass cover of Animosity by The Warning). And I appreciate your comment about my voice.... I used to do some announcing, and am not trying to use that tone here, but the general tone of the voice still is in that range I guess. Cheers! ROCK ON WITH THE WARNING!!!
Great reaction and commentary Don. This song, no matter how I take it whether via audio or video, just gets me every time I hear it. This performance almost doubled the usual effect. I’ve already watched it several times and it is pure emotion set to an incredible and innovative drum pattern via Pau, an awesome bass line, exceptional harmony and backing vocals and Dany…who is passion personified. Sibling magic.
Sudeep yes totally... yea, I get it... even verbally, I mean it's been many years since I taught drum rudiments and most of that is a distant memory, but still I ought to be able to describe it, but in the end I just focused on one or two unique aspects and let the groove speak for itself otherwise... I could spend an entire video just discussing her drum work in one or two songs only.
@@MrSudeepdas Agreed. There was a video snippet where talked about being so proud when she came up with it. Considering the drums usually come last in their writing process shows the lengths they go to get a song right. I can’t imagine Martirio without that expressive cadence.
@@don-music In Indian classical music we have a very elaborate system of verbally expressing different types of beats & percussion instruments like the tabla. Ta-dhin-dhin-ta... Hey Sly, thank you for the kudos, and yea this REALLY is an ANTHEM. It's like one of those movies that gets you involved and then finds another level to pull you in deeper, and then another new way to get you even more involved... and then again...
Hey, Don! I've been enjoying your reactions to The Warning when I can find the time for the past couple months now. It was great to learn that we're audibly hearing the music in the same way as we're using the same headphones. I sincerely appreciate your reviews and analyses as I'm learning so much from them. Thank you! 🙏🤘
The placement of the mics is probably symmetrical while the camera looks like it's off to camera right so it doesn't "see" the sound mix engineer and his equipment. One thing that strikes me about Ale's playing is that she shortens and lengthens the duration of the notes by the contact of her left fingers on the frets, i.e., left hand muting. This can be heard in a video that demonstrates Dany's guitar solos. I had to learn how to do this because my amps were too loud so the bass would feed back if I didn't. In later years, without ridiculous amplification, I had to unlearn this technique to let the notes ring out. But, Ale uses it to get the feel into each note. I heard this anthem in a tiny club, right in my face. I hear this in European stadiums in a very near future. Thanks for the deep analysis.
Thank you for the observation about camera placement… totally makes sense!!! Yes, when i was a teenager playing bass in high school, that left hand muting was a technique that a pro bassist/music teacher taught a couple of us when he was substitute teaching for the regular band teacher. It’s a great technique to have available! I get the loud amp feedback issues you went through… been there, suffered through those same ways to compensate for it lol
I can't remember how I first found your channel, but after watching a few videos had to Subscribe. Now I find myself going back and enjoying your Reaction and Analysis of all the Warning songs. What I enjoy most is that you take time to dive into very musically nerdy things that clearly strike a cord (no pun intended) with you. These are fun to watch and educational to boot, even for someone me who has never played an instrument. Once you describe a technique I find myself able to hear it in that song and then in others, I then appreciate those song and/or musician even more. Thank you for this.
wow, thanks! That's AWESOME if you are getting so you can pick out those details in other songs now.... SWEET! I'm Musically Weaponizing The Warning Army ONE SOLDIER AT A TIME!
No matter how many times i hear this i start leaking about the same place you do. Then the outro with Dany's vocal wail and one of the best guitar solos she's ever done opens the flood gates. And between Ale and Pau's vicious groove it sounds like a freight train coming at you. I haven't listened to your review yet, but on the edge of my seat to hear it. Pure Arena rock.....

Yes so it’s simply that I’m using a recording interface that is designed for pro audio work, So the mic goes into one channel only. Both times I needed to edit the audio settings in OBS first to set the mic audio to mono, and because it is hidden i forgot. I’ll try to remember for next time though
@@don-music - Maybe tape a note like *"MONO"* by your computer screen to remind you to hit the hidden button. Cause you're one of the few reactors that is interesting to listen to. Too many reactors thinks they know what they're talking about but in reality doesn't.

Thank you! Yes, I'll solve that for next time. The default configuration with my audio interface is to put the mic only on the left, and I have to remember to manually change a setting in OBS before I record every video... and I forgot to do it this time.
Rock on!!!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
No estoy llorando tengo una diosa del rock Paulina en el ojo
HAHAHAHAHAHA yes, of course, that's all it was.... just Rock Goddess Paulina in my eye..... darn it, where's that McDonald's napkin?
😂 Buena, esa... 👍
I’m still crying 😢😢😢
Same here Jose…. Same here… 🙏⚡️🤘🤘
I absolutely agree.... Dany is going down in history I'm certain for her skills and delivery...
Agree.
Ya decía que de algún lado me recuerda ese riff...y si me remite al gran Gilmour.
These sisters are overwhelmingly talented!!
This EPIC song is a rock anthem!
Awesome live performance!!
Stunning audio and video quality!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
Yes!!! Absolutely agreed! Thanks for the comment
Oh wow, thanks for sharing! Surprisingly enough, I feel the same way almost exactly.
Another great reaction for another spectacular song by this tremendous band.
It is very emotional to see Pau and her sisters enjoying her presentation so much,
she infects us with her energy and feelings that she cannot contain.
Dany's solos are beautiful, her voice is the best,
I got goosebumps when her voice tore at the end,
and her connection with the crowd is almost automatic.

@@don-music Yes... Me too!! 😅
Thanks again.
Bravoooo!
Yes! We have another AMAZING performance! Thanks for stopping by!
hahahaha you mention Stewart Copeland , one of my favorite drummer, but he's underrated tho
Totally Dario…. The man’s a genius (literally) and I don’t think I’d have been the huge fan of the Police that i was if not for his drumming
Great reaction!
In love with The Warning and I can’t say enough about their talent.
The fact that they are sisters from Mexico adds a big plus.
I concur with you in many ways.
I first moved to the USA back in 89 ‘
(I know, I’m a seasoned Warning disciple )
I started listening to songs in English and I did the same thing.
I used to look for the lyrics and then translate the song myself.
Back then the Internet was in its infancy CDs Radio and MTV were your main sources of music.
I vividly remember watching Eric Clapton singing Tears in Heaven
And tears came out of my eyes
Till this day
That song “hunts me”
Needless to say what Martirio does to me.
I'm a father of a Beautiful 6yo.girl and together we watch as she calls The Warning... “My daughters”
She doesn't know all the lyrics but she sings most of the choir.
I have tickets to see their performance in LA and Santa Ana.
This will be my second time attending their concert and I hope to see many of you rocking out.
Viva The Warning!!!!
thank you so much! Yes ... they are inspiring and amazing.... still my favorite rock group of the past couple decades!
Not much analysis of Dany but another powerful performance.
Ah yes, true, I’ll have plenty to focus on with Dany in the next video though…..
MEXICAN GODDESSES OF ROCK! ❤❤❤
As a dull white Canadian guy, I never would have guessed that my favorite rock group would be Mexican! Mexican rock is AWESOME!!!!
@@don-music they’re so amazing!
Thank you
@@don-music
Yeah, my pleasure 😉...haha...no, Im kidding, but honestly thanks to you Don! I really appreciate your videos! 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍😀
Many times I don't get much from reaction videos, might have to do with the fact that I know music and many videos are really superficial (there are super good ones though, but only a few), but yours are just great...you go through the artistic aspect of it, the human side and the tech part and all feels very honest, so yeah... Interesting and either emotional or very fun...ok, or maybe always both... 😉 😁. (I mean emotional in a broad sense, not about "gettong emotional".)
You are the best!! 🔥🔥🤘🔥🔥
And yeah, your voice was low but much better than some other video I watched (can't recall now).
I wish the best for you, Don!
@@don-music
About the drums, I love how Pau plays a very similar high-hat triplet on DISCIPLE on the verse to mix it up:
First she goes with two chssh chssh with the high-hat fully released (hitting hard) to land again hitting on the down beat while closing (all quarter notes), but next time she plays the tripplet to land on the beat (just like here in Martirio, Stewart Coppeland style) thus alternating every two bars.
Yes i recall that too, now that you mention it! It can reduce the fret noise somewhat, so good point there. Thanks for your reminder!
Talk about fandom 😂

Thanks Don, for another great analysis of my favorite The Warning song!
Hey Jemez... you're very welcome, and thank YOU for showing your appreciation with this comment! I truly am grateful!
Yeah. Pau's drum pattern for the second verse was a complex mix of 2 different sequences. I wish I could express that through written words.
M Taylor.... thank you so much, and yes you described it so well! Passion personified.... man oh man that describes Pau...

I totally missed this video in my feed! Fantastic reaction as always. What a rock anthem this song is. Wiping my eyes after listening to a TW performance is a regular occurrence for me 😂 I love this song so much.
Thank you! 🙏🤘
wow, thank you so much! I can't really express how much that means to read, tonight. 🙏🤘🙏🤘
Great reaction, thanks for the detailed explanation of the song, that's gold for us non-musician.
Thank YOU Sergio for taking the time to watch my video and comment your appreciation. It means so much to me!
Wow, thank you very much for your support and great comments… TWA FTW
@@don-music I saw Martirio come up with a new reactor and thought I'd give it a shot. As with most reactors he was bobbing his head and enjoying the song then i saw your reaction in the side panel again and remembered your emotional and informative reaction. Needing a dose of Martirio, I clicked away from where I was onto your reaction. Who better to watch it with than you...:)
I just hope when the girls get headlining stadiums, they'll add this song to their encore again. This song was built for stadiums.
At this point in their career, and this point in this concert, none of the girls were playing this song. They're not thinking about playing anymore, It just comes through them.
I played for years on the road and this moment, in a musicians career, is what we're chasing. I'm sure you've been there too Don.
It takes the whole band and the audience to get there. Unfortunately I can count the times I've been there on one hand.
The girls can get there most the night, every night. They're ready for anything that comes their way now.
Nice sharing the song with you again.....:)

Have a question. When you talk your voice is only coming out on the left side on my headphones. Why is that?? Yet, The Warning music is in stereo.
Both of your *Martirio* & *Money* reactions were the same. Warning in stereo. You only on the left side.
I think the end of this song, the last minute, is my favorite ending to any of their songs. I personally prefer Narcisista overall between the 2 Spanish songs but that ending is so epic and anthemic.
Oh yes, i agree… and it makes it the perfect closer for the album… except Breathe is perfect right after it…. Damn they are so so good
