- The Oscar-winner shares the approach she took for capturing the contradictory dimensions of Megyn Kelly.
The power behind pushing timely #MeToo drama “Bombshell” (December 20, Lionsgate) onto multiplexes across America this season is producer-star Charlize Theron, who has deliberately taken control of her career over the past decade, from actioner “Atomic Blonde” and romantic comedy “Long Shot” to David Fincher’s Netflix hit series “Mindhunter.” “It’s such an incredible thing to have freedom of choice,” she said in our video interview, above. “And also to have the ability to make your own stuff.”
She first approached Jay Roach (Oscar-nominated “Trumbo”) for notes on the script from Oscar-winning screenwriter Charles Randolph (“The Big Short”) and wound up hiring Roach to direct. (He directed two HBO Emmy-winners, “Game Change” starring Julianne Moore and Ed Harris, and “Recount” starring Laura Dern.) This ripped-from-the-headlines docudrama is focused on the women who confronted the toxic male culture of Fox News. Theron as Megyn Kelly, Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson and Margot Robbie as fictional Fox News associate producer Kayla Pospisil take on a formidable adversary: Fox News czar Roger Ailes (John Lithgow).
Both Randolph and Roach come from Fox-friendly family backgrounds. And the movie carefully weaves its story without taking political sides. “It’s human behavior that interests me,” Theron said of Fox’s top dog and rabidly anti-feminist anchorwoman Kelly’s struggle to figure out how to do the right thing, a year before the Harvey Weinstein scandal launched the #MeToo movement. “There are no easy ways in, and no easy ways out. You have to be willing to look at these things… [Sexual harassment] is non-partisan.”
Producer-star Theron said she wrestled with how to portray powerful Fox news anchor Kelly, and had her breakthrough when she decided not to worry about whether she was likable. “That’s the last thing I could give a fuck about,” said the “Monster” Oscar-winner, who carries “Bombshell” and could land her third Best Actress nomination.
She’s almost unrecognizable, and “Darkest Hour” makeup star Kazuhiro Tsuji could win another Oscar for a series of remarkable transformations including Theron, Kidman, and Lithgow. In Theron’s case, her contacts and prosthetic eyelids were often painful to manage. But she wanted to get as close to this well-known figure as she could.

The biggest reason I like her, aside from her being beautiful, is she has actual common sense. Her though process is rational which is very attractive. After looks...personality really matters.
Charlize is a stunningly beautiful woman. Aside from her looks, which is no small thing. What attracts me every bit as much, is her strength of character. She takes ownership of absolutely everything she does! This is huge IMHO. Very few people of influence have this. Just look at how corrupt our politicians are! They take ownership of nothing, if something goes wrong! However they can’t toot their horns enough if something goes right. Even if they weren’t involved with it. My nickname for Charlize is the “Can Do” lady. I have no doubt that Charlize Theron will go down as one of the greats of Hollywood. That is if we don’t destroy our planet first. I salute you Charlize Theron!

The highest demographic of youth living on the streets are LGBTQ community. As well as higher risk of suicide. Personally I have the utmost respect for her knowing she lives in the spot light and would be judged at every turn and fodder for tabloids but loving her child enough to say hey you wanna wear a dress like your sister. Okay! Hell of a parent who clearly loves her child. This has been going on for what 3-4 years? Now that the child's been publicly seen dressing as a girl. Only reason anyone knows she adopted a son is because for the 4 years of their life they were seen out and about with him dressed as a boy. It's not like she adopted a child and started dressing them as a girl. Clearly at some point the child let her know he wasn't a boy and loved and accepted her for who she was and let her be true to herself. Even at the expense of knowing she'd have to deal with ass hats like you!
Learn to live your life and do something for the world before Judging others for their life choices and their kids.
