A lot of jobs disqualify you if your IQ is high because they assume you would leave said job for something better if you are constantly bored at the job, i.e. police officer, customer service.
Vic Wilson because at the end of the day he still could make a ton of money through endorsements and the QB position makes a lot these days. Also, QBs do not get hit in the current NFL really. The rules are purposely crafted to protect the QB now.
Mark Alan he had a 4.3 GPA in HS and a 3.98 in college. In 8 years he relieved a single B. Grades aren’t always an accurate partial of one’s intelligence but, using common sense, we can assume Josh Rosen is pretty smart.
Allan Stott this is actually a bigger issue than you think 😂 1) people who are more intellectual are also more awkward. In a locker room filled with loud, outspoken people, he won’t it in leading to chemistry and confidence issues. 2) Is the confidence issues that come along with over analyzing every throw. He’ll become to critical of himself. Football has to be played with cockiness. And the more intelligent a person is, the more politically correct and soft spoken they tend to be. Rosen won’t talk trash, he isn’t loud, he won’t speak his mind to his coaches or players, he won’t get in his teammates face and fire them up, and he won’t give the pregame speeches or prayers. Those are the intangibles a QB needs. I like Rosen as a person but, I was pessimistic about him being able to play with confidence and to develop chemistry with his teammates. So far he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a NFL QB and unless he gets a coach that 100% believes in him, he’ll be out of the league pretty quick.

2020 Update: Two teams in two seasons, and now the Dolphins are probably going to draft a QB in the first round, so if he's so good, why is his career floundering? Something with him isn't quite right, at least not so far, if the Phins decide to trade him like the Cardinals will any teams even be interested? Maybe he's a career backup at this point, considering a journeyman beat him out last year on one of the worst teams in the NFL. So Rosen is now two for two in teams giving up on him in two years, not stellar at all.

When you have rich parents and had some of the best professional QB coaches since you were in junior high and go to one of the top prep HS in the nation yeah you should have flawless mechanics and look great in shirt and shorts throwing the ball around. Put him in a real game in front of a pass rush and with some adversity and it’s a different story. 62% comp percentage, 10 INTs, took himself out of multiple games in college. His games against Arizona, Memphis, Washington, ASU tell the real story. Completely different player in pads, I’m not buying the shirt and shorts workout hype.

I might be wrong, and frankly I hope I am, but I've been around long enough to know that these talking heads are wrong more than they are right. Remember the future Hall of Fame RB Reggie Bush? How about Jamarcus Russell? How about Ryan Leaf? Johnny Manziel? How many QB's were drafted before Tom Brady and how many were in the League 4 years? The 22 turnovers in one season of college ball that Darnold had this year doesn't transfer well to a league where the defenders are stronger and faster and the windows are tighter. Only time will tell and maybe I'm wrong but something tells me I'm not.
Romain, I've been told the same thing about Darnold, but I've watched the replay of the ND game several times since then, and after being stripped on the first play of the game Darnold was never the same. He never regained his mojo. I was just watching the Ryan Leaf/Peyton Manning draft video on yt a couple of hours ago. Leaf was considered the better athlete; he was bigger, stronger, a better runner and could throw the ball 80 yards from his knees. I live in Indiana and the screams of picking Manning at #1 instead of Leaf lasted for months. Leaf's career ended in just his fourth start and though he did play after that it was spot starts. By his second year he was traded and relegated to second string status, then third string the next year, and he retired after his third season. There have been tons of "can't miss" players in all positions that have never amounted to a hill of beans and this draft will have them too.
I don't know. I didn't look at SC's schedule before say what I'm about to say but I think ND's defense might have been the highest ranked defense they saw last season. My point being that the defenses in the NFL will all be faster and bigger than ND's and if that D rwattled him, and it clearly did, what will he be like when the game is faster. I was just watching Jimmy G's highlights with the 49ers last season and you can't believe the receivers he hit when they were blanketed by two and even three defenders. Can Darnold do that? We'll see. By the way, I'm not saying you are wrong; you have good valid points. I was talking this over with our local sports talk show prior to the draft and they said essentially the same thing you are, these guys are being hyped because their ceiling is so high. I prefer to look at what they've actually done then consider how that translates to the NFL.
Maybe I misspoke but I don't think all of them are busts, I just don't think any of them are "franchise QB's". In my opinion, and I realize that it's solely mine, Darnold will be the bust of this class. I think all of the rest have futures as starters, but I don't see any of them being what Watson and Wentz appear to be. Think Jay Cutler.

Rosen is the most polished QB in terms of mechanics, but when the bullets were flying he struggled with the rush and made bad decisions. He might be able to throw. But I doubt he can escape the rush like baker Mayfield can . Mayfield is houdini! Best overall qb in draft.
Giants better draft him. Manning is getting old. The giants have a chance to have a good quarterback for the future. Good quarterback are hard to find. I would draft him.

My own personal take is that none of these guys will be the "franchise QB" everyone thinks they will be. Darnold will be out of the league within 4 years.
I might be wrong, and frankly I hope I am, but I've been around long enough to know that these talking heads are wrong more than they are right. Remember the future Hall of Fame RB Reggie Bush? How about Jamarcus Russell? How about Ryan Leaf? Johnny Manziel? How many QB's were drafted before Tom Brady and how many were in the League 4 years? The 22 turnovers in one season of college ball that Darnold had this year doesn't transfer well to a league where the defenders are stronger and faster and the windows are tighter. Only time will tell and maybe I'm wrong but something tells me I'm not.
Romain, I've been told the same thing about Darnold, but I've watched the replay of the ND game several times since then, and after being stripped on the first play of the game Darnold was never the same. He never regained his mojo. I was just watching the Ryan Leaf/Peyton Manning draft video on yt a couple of hours ago. Leaf was considered the better athlete; he was bigger, stronger, a better runner and could throw the ball 80 yards from his knees. I live in Indiana and the screams of picking Manning at #1 instead of Leaf lasted for months. Leaf's career ended in just his fourth start and though he did play after that it was spot starts. By his second year he was traded and relegated to second string status, then third string the next year, and he retired after his third season. There have been tons of "can't miss" players in all positions that have never amounted to a hill of beans and this draft will have them too.
I don't know. I didn't look at SC's schedule before say what I'm about to say but I think ND's defense might have been the highest ranked defense they saw last season. My point being that the defenses in the NFL will all be faster and bigger than ND's and if that D rwattled him, and it clearly did, what will he be like when the game is faster. I was just watching Jimmy G's highlights with the 49ers last season and you can't believe the receivers he hit when they were blanketed by two and even three defenders. Can Darnold do that? We'll see. By the way, I'm not saying you are wrong; you have good valid points. I was talking this over with our local sports talk show prior to the draft and they said essentially the same thing you are, these guys are being hyped because their ceiling is so high. I prefer to look at what they've actually done then consider how that translates to the NFL.
Maybe I misspoke but I don't think all of them are busts, I just don't think any of them are "franchise QB's". In my opinion, and I realize that it's solely mine, Darnold will be the bust of this class. I think all of the rest have futures as starters, but I don't see any of them being what Watson and Wentz appear to be. Think Jay Cutler.
That's fair, Romain. To me a bust is a first rounder who never sees a regular season start.

Because you're watching him in shirts and shorts. Go watch him in pads. He had double-digit INTS, 62% comp percentage, and never had a season with more than 8 wins in college. Rosen is the most polished QB in terms of mechanics, but when the bullets were flying he struggled with the rush and made bad decisions. He's also the least mobile of all the top guys in his draft class.
