    My personal pain point is Spotlights. I’m collection complete and spending four keys to get a new card feels bad especially if I don’t “need” any other cards/variants in the spotlight. That being said,I love Snap. The gameplay, strategy, location and card variance keeps me coming back. I also appreciate the regular balance updates and patches.

    • @sightfortheblind

      Same for me - I'm like 80-90% complete, I took a month break during the Eternals season and still haven't seen most of those cards on offer in Spotlights. On top of that, I have NEVER managed to hit the new card in 1 key since I've returned, so for like 20+ weeks now I've had to spend like 3 keys every week to get the cards I want. It's very draining!

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree that using 4 keys for a single card doesn’t feel great, but I remind myself of what the goal is. I only want the new card. If it costs 6k tokens or 4 keys, the end is the same. And if I’m saving my resources correctly, then it never really matters when it takes 4 keys. I still have enough going forward.

    I’m free to play. Card acquisition is very grindy and slow. I play when I want to play not expecting to get new cards, but I do get tired more often because my card collection is so static. I find it funny when I finally get a new card and I see it as a piece of some meta decks from years ago. :).
    I do agree it’s fun to try to be competitive with my collection level. There is plenty of creativity to be used in that space.

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I can understand that. Not everyone wants to cook decks. They just want to play for a bit with a known deck and have fun. Nothing wrong with that at all except it’s difficult or impossible due to card acquisition.

    Absolutely agree on not needing the best cards to get infinite or win. I've been infinite in all but two seasons since I started 10 months ago. If you're intelligent and patient you can win most games where it is possible. I retreat around 60% of the time 😂

    • @NerdDynamite

    Lots of excellent points. A very underrated piece of this game is PILOTING. I can't tell you how many decks I've just copied and pasted from creators who seemed to win all the time and then completely bombed. I gotta play what I can pilot, and that means I don't always need the new shiny card.
    I was able to save up keys (11 as of right now) because I skipped every move and bounce card that has been released in the last few months. And I was really picky even with cards I wanted at first, like scarlet spider, who I ended up skipping. I've hit infinite basically every season.
    Looking ahead at what they've announced, I am thinking I will need to start hoarding tokens because I'm past the point in my collection where I can snag 2 or 3 cards I don't have in a spotlight cache, which does feel bad.
    But all that to say, I'm currently missing 22 cards and am having no problems winning games and getting the rewards I want out of the game.

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      💯 to all of this. I’d be shocked if most endgame players use 25% of their collection. Even new cards you play with for maybe a week and then not again.
      Knowing what archetypes you actually want to play makes it so much easier. You’re in the exact position as me because you chose to sacrifice a little and avoid cards you were never going to play regardless of their strength.

    RE: Season Pass... I heard it from several other content creators - Snap at it's more competitive levels is a subscription-service game via the Season Pass. They aim intentionally for it to be strong. And they intend for the resources behind that $10 ($1 if you has Samsung galaxy store!) to be very helpful and great value in CL etc. As you often prove and say, you don't need to the season pass to have fun or to win. But it is certainly part of their model for the game to give SP clear definitive pay-to-play (that good card) from it (not pay-to-win, though).
    All that stated, I very much agree with a large portion of your takes here - thank you for sharing and posting!

      Thanks for sharing your perspective! I can fully understand that Season Pass thought. Part of my specific viewpoint is shaped by working in game dev many years ago in addition to corporate business since.
      There has to be some way for a company to entice people to spend money. The gaming industry, especially mobile, has a tough time doing that without angering a significant portion of players.

    I do appreciate that you chose to be a positive voice amidst all the negativity. And i agree that Snap isnt on its death bed yet, but i dont think you addressed WHY the community has been so negative as of late. For most of us, we LOVE Snap, and want to see it continue. But when you have months of "we hear you" with very, very little updates to HOW theyre working to address our concerns, several months of increasingly scummy monetization practices (seriously, those for you bundles of series 3 and 4 cards are stupid), and then hearing that they wont even talk to the majority of CCs about these things, its infuriating, especially since they were very much the opposite in the beginning. Then there are NUMEROUS instances of people getting a new card w/tokens, and its immediately nerfed. They could at least put out a heads up that "hey, this card has been dominating, so we're gonna tone it back." Not doing so is disingenuous to both newer players that see a card that is doing well and to veterans that missed it the first time around. Awesome gameplay cant cover up flaws like that. I dont envy you trying to be a positive voice, because that is a tough job right now

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks for the response! I knew I’d miss some topics and you spoke well to them. To briefly touch on some:
      My perspective is shaped by 15+ years working in corporate jobs and the first 3 of those being for EA Sports on Madden. I was there during the first year of Ultimate Team which was a super scummy micro transaction online feature. I’ll never forget sitting in an all hands meeting as the game director was bragging how the 3 biggest spenders were over $100k 😓. For-profit companies make decisions based on profit. I fully agree the “For You” bundles are dumb lol, but there are plenty of people buying them or SD wouldn’t offer them anymore.
      I don’t know how to feel about the “we hear you” and then no updates part. Software development is tough and there are many features that take longer than everyone internally wants. That’s the harsh reality but players typically aren’t receptive to that message. Combine that with this feature being directly related to profits, now it takes even longer because you have to work with a different department that has different priorities.
      SD not talking to Content Creators. I’m less than a year in so don’t know how things typically work. If I’m SD, I already know the problem. Talking to anybody else about that problem won’t reveal new information. So I could do it for appearances but ultimately I’d rather spend the time doing the work. I’m in the official creator program and it’s not radio silence from SD with the creators. Best I can tell, there’s daily, or minimally, a couple times a week communication. What you’re hearing is the bigger creators saying SD isn’t arranging a discussion specifically on the frustration topic. That’s despite creators already sharing those frustrations outside of the public’s view. If I’m being too vague, there’s an NDA agreement.
      The no refunds policy is trash. You will get zero rebuttal from me. At a minimum, if you bought/unlocked a card in the past month, used it X amount of times, and then it got nerfed, you should be able to get a full refund if you choose. I do think people mostly overreact to nerfs. But the player should have the choice.
      Lastly, my goal wasn’t to change anyone’s mind. I respect the views of others and they are entitled to them. Just trying to provide some context and balance to the discussion. 👍

    Your best video. All your points were great i just want to clarify the frustration of endgame players (who spend money). Besides the season pass and gold pass, everything else for card progression isnt really worth buying, meaning your money only goes so far. This feels like an unnecessary gating of resources, dont believe me? Im sure many would buy 2 season passes a month if they could (no premium plus doesnt count). Besides that the worse part of the spotlight is waiting more than 4 months for a card to reappear. Maybe they should have build your own spotlights? Maybe a pipe dream

      @NerdDynamite  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    There are 3 ways of fixing the card acquisition problem
    1. Drop every card one series below and continue doing it for every month if they want to always release series 5 card
    2. Give a free one spotlight key every week in a mission (at least we can guarantee getting a new card every month)
    3. Remove or lower the rate of boosters in the cache

      It’s difficult from the company side. Whenever players suggest solutions, it’s typically one sided and involves the company giving more which leads to them making less money.
      There are arguments to be made for doing just that, but that requires the final decision maker to value customer feelings higher than money. I’ve yet to work at a company like that, even though they exist and are just super rare.
      I really hope they are able to find a solution that feels better while also allowing that final decision maker to good too.

    I have played the game since launch. I did come to the realization over a year ago that the game doesn't WANT me to have all the cards...which frankly feels kind of bad. Especially as I had come from Legends of Runeterra, a game id really been enjoying where they DID want you to have all the cards.
    Anyway, it was at that point that i became less judicious with my resources. I decided that buying some variants that I like with my in-game gold would give me more joy than trying to "optimize" my resources.
    I do question my decision all the time, because I'm missing more cards than I feel someone playing for 2+ years should be.
    To me, the Spotlight system feels lacking MOSTLY because if the errant nature of it. Some cards appear all the time (X-23), while many cards seem to never show up. (Zemo and Blink are appearing for the first time in February; this is a full 11 MONTHS (!!) after Zemo was released as a season pass card! They need some more regularity to this system, and duplicate protection or higher compensation for the "random card" (from which I have NEVER gotten a card, only tokens).

      @NerdDynamite  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Never question your decision in prioritizing joy over optimization! You may have less cards but you probably weren’t going to use many of them.

    The problem is not with the game, but with the people playing the game. Like most things in life, many people want to shortcut the learning process by watching TH-cam videos and then replicating what they see, but they can't do that in Marvel Snap because they can't because of card acquisition issues. Unless possessing previous card game experience, the average player is probably bad at card evaluation and deck building.
    Rather than getting good through exploration and experimentation, they get stuck in a loop of chasing the next great thing that others with more resources are suggesting. However, they end up playing worse versions due to lack of funds and/or have lower skill level than the players suggesting the deck resulting in numerous losses. They blame these defeats on not having the cards rather than being bad at the game.
    Shang Chi is often the crutch that these players rely heavily on. I equate Shang Chi to a beginner weapon like a shotgun or rocket launcher in shooters. The point when Shang Chi stops being an automatic include in every deck is when growth as a player escalates. It is like when a basketball player decides not to try to dunk on every possession.

While it's true that every game has inconsistent playerbases (they leave, come back, split their time between games), the issue is that Marvel Snap has set up a system that makes returning back to the game way less appealing; once you stop the grind, there's no efficient way to speed up the process of getting back into the game. They also have terrible player retention, and that's also because of the way card acquisition works. You don't need to play meta to have fun, but the player should be able to make that choice. As of right now, even if you come back from a couple of months hiatus, and you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars, you're mostly unable to catch up. Isn't that absurd?

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I think my difference of opinion stems from acceptance. I think it's a weird choice to try and enforce different collections onto players, but that's how the game is. If a player is looking to have an easier time getting every card they want, they can play any other card game. If you want to play Marvel Snap, you just have to accept it and forge a path forward.
      I have a generally positive outlook on everything because getting bogged down in negativity is a road to unhappiness. If I took a break and decided to come back, I'd manage just like TLSG who is a big Snap creator. It would even be a little exciting again to unlock multiple new cards in a week instead of the 0-1 each week that I do.
      That's not to say you're wrong with any of your thoughts! My goal with the video was to present a more balanced perspective instead of the doom and gloom that has taken over.

    I have all the cards but Kang... And the game feels repetitive. The grinding , etc. Most of the season looking for a new deck to face the meta, get to infinite, and next season this infinite deck is useless again

      Uh oh… you might be approaching burnout. The repetitive feeling is normally the first step. Then you continue along anyway until the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
      My biggest point was that is very normal with every game. It doesn’t necessarily mean the game is dying, just that this game isn’t immune to player burnout.

    You are definitely a dragon, my friend! Love your content. I've been playing for a couple months and completely agree with you about the game. You do not need meta cards to be competitive. I hit Infinite last month fairly early with a standard destroy deck (no Knull, no Zola). I DID pony up some cash for the $10 Season Pass, and I did buy Venom in a $10 bundle, but there are plenty of folks who make Infinite through good gameplay and knowing when to SNAP. I hit level 99 my first month with only Series 2 cards. I agree the Spotlights can be annoying (I spent three keys trying to get X-23 and got neither X-23 nor Elsa Snow) and I do wish there was a more targeted way to get cards you are trying to get, but I have a ton of fun throwing together decks and just playing the game! One of my favorite decks right now if the recent Hela deck Nerd Dynamite put up on this channel. Does it always win? Definitely not. But SOMETIMES it wins me matches I have no business winning and that is hella fun! Thanks for the content, Nerd Dynamite -- let's keep playing the game!

      😂😂 I really liked that Hela deck mostly because it’s “dumb” fun.

    The gameplay is great no doubt about it, BUT the card acquisition is such a pain, The price is Too Damn High (in both real money & in-game Resources) and when you got the Damn expensive Card via real money or your HARD EARNED Resources SD can just NERFED it to almost irrelevant WITHOUT any kind of COMPENSATION.
    NERFED WITHOUT COMPENSATION is still somewhat ok IF the card acquisition is not so ass.
    Then come the Spotlights Cache system, such a pain, every week lately look like: 1 new card and 3 dup (2 guaranteed dup that turn into useless Vars, 1 random mostly dup that turn into 1000 token somewhat usefull). Man when i 1-key the new card i feel RELIEF not rewarded, and when i 4-key a new card i just straight up quit for the day like immediately.

    Marvel Snap have unique and interesting gameplay, amazing artwork of cards. Is this enough to keep players? NO!
    There are some bad stuff about game that SD ignores or resolve very slowly.
    The game is mostly P2W (you can buy cards or increase you progress - CL). Card acquisition is bad. Everything is hell grind. There are minimal sources from where you can get gold playing normally without using real money. Collector's Reserves are nightmare with not existing gold as reward, amount of tokens is very low as reward, and 90% to get Gold tickets that nobody wants! Also CR % to get Variants is to low.
    You will waste your time to grind resources for card you want (or waste real money) and SD when gets enough profit will kill that card.
    I don't have problem to support game if i have fun. Even now i think Season Pass and Gold Pass are worth getting. But SD become to much greedy. Bundles are becoming much expensive and they offers less and less resources. And as I mentioned above they will not hesitate to kill any card.
    3 most fun decks/cards that brings unique gameplay are dead and unplayable (Thanos, High Evo and now Arishem - RIP). And those 3 cards are most likely where they made the most profit.
    They don't listen community anymore, and that was not the case before.
    I hope something will change soon or they will lose the remaining players.
    I know this sounded a bit harsh, but it was deserved!

      Thanks for sharing your perspective! I disagree on some points but your complaints overall are valid.
      For me, the fun of the game will just outweigh the downsides. I’m seeing pure negativity so wanted to get out a more balanced perspective. This isn’t about being right or wrong, just giving a voice to the players who are still having a ton of fun.
      And did you mention Thanos…? He might be getting a deck video at the end of next week. 👀

      @NerdDynamite  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think it’s just the Season Pass+ which is increasing. Ultimately a for-profit company is going to make for-profit decisions. There are people who buy them at elevated prices so might as well increase them.
      None of that impacts the actual gameplay though. When I go to the shop to collect my free credits, I press the credits icon at the top. I never even see the bundles unless someone in my alliance or on Reddit says there’s a good value one.

  • @sudakshmishra

    Card acquisition for a long-term player is absolutely horrid. The only way you can acquire cards is via the spotlight keys based on spotlight rotation. You can my doing a horrid playing everyday whenever your challenges refresh get 3000 credits from weekly challenges and 400 from conquest. This translates to approx 68 CL levels, spotlight keys are placed 120 CL levels apart, this means one can only get 1 spotlight key from 2 weeks of playing the game. Furthermore, the spotlight rotation is horrible, with cards that have been already given in other recent spotlights showcasing again. It's been more than a month since I've gotten a spotlight rotation in which all 3 cards showcased in the spotlight were unowned by me. This means even if I work for 8 weeks to gather 4 spotlight keys, I have a chance of getting a variant for a card which I never wanted. I personally think the first spotlight key should compulsorily give you the new card and then give people a chance to roll for the others in case they're missing any. A tip which I want to pass, if while opening spotlight caches, you don't get a series 4 card which you don't have which on rotation that week, do not open it with keys, you'll get it as a drop eventually from the collection's reserves.

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  วันที่ผ่านมา

      My view is it’s reframing the cost. New cards cost 4 keys. Period. If you get a discount and it costs 1-3, great! Otherwise, the expected cost is always 4 keys. I also don’t think many players even use the “new” card for longer than a week or month. If it’s a card the player uses for a long time, then it’s worth that cost. If it’s not a card like that, then save your resources!
      I’m a day 1 global release player with 10 keys and 28k tokens. I buy most, not all, season passes and 2 months ago bought the $100 gold bundle before the double special went away. Even FTP players could’ve saved enough resources to get the cards they really want and would use a lot.
      The collectors reserves used to have Series 4 cards but not anymore: marvelsnapzone.com/cache-drop-rates-and-contents/

    • @sudakshmishra
      @sudakshmishra วันที่ผ่านมา

      @NerdDynamite So a major problem with your argument is, usually one week is not enough to understand whether a card is worth getting. And getting it later is impossible via spotlight because they don't show up at all in rotations. I don't think my ask for spotlight keys prioritising a new card over a variant of a pre-owned card is a wild request to be honest. I 100% would have duplicate protection when I'm using my keys instead of playing this game like a chore just to get 1000 tokens for a season 5 card which they charge 6000 tokens for. It's just absurd, especially with their spotlight rotations backing up the allegations that people have with FOMO.

    • @NerdDynamite

      @@sudakshmishra Since October, these were the new cards: Misery, Toxin, Anti-Venom, Scorn, Scream, Frigga, Fenris Wolf, Malekith, Gorr, Luna Snow. I think the only ones where the use wasn’t known during release week were Anti-Venom and Frigga. That means 80% of the new cards’ power levels were known.
      The biggest thing I learned when creating spotlight preview videos is to place a premium on unique abilities and replaceability. I missed on Frigga and will need to use tokens. Even a card as strong as Gorr is replaceable.
      We can definitely agree on dupe protection though! My idea is that each player could make a list of 5-10 cards that they want. Then the extra random spotlight card is still random, but is still desirable.

  • @solesoul
    @solesoul วันที่ผ่านมา

    When we were new players, we got the new cards we wanted with more access to tokens and clearly identified series drops.
    You could always plan for a card you wanted, pin it, or leave it for later and you'd know when it would drop and how cheap it would be. The spotlight system is terrible for both new and old players. Old players struggle to get new cards, new players cant target cards they want and eventually also run into the same issues old players have. Its a terrible system and all of these issues were called out a year ago

    • @NerdDynamite
      @NerdDynamite  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I see what you’re saying but my experience is different. I still have the full ability to get every card I want. Either with 6k tokens or 4 keys. And yes, every new card costs 4 keys. Sometimes there’s a “discount” and it costs 1-3 keys, but only if you’re lucky.
      I’m obviously not a new player so have to rely on my viewers for that perspective. Best I can tell, just getting the amount of new cards they do, is fun. Once a month, I make a video for those players with Series 2 cards and show how to pilot it either while climbing or in Infinite.
      Reading this back, it sounds like I’m disagreeing 😂. Not quite… I agree there are issues that need to be resolved. I just don’t think it’s as bad as some players think if they were to reframe what this game actually is and that you can climb to Infinite with Series 2 decks.

    • @solesoul
      @solesoul วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NerdDynamite you can definitely hit infinite with a series 2 deck, it just takes longer due to requiring more retreats and you may not get to play the archetype that really calls to you.
      I'm in a unique position where I saw a bit of what it's like for someone without all of the cards because I had taken a long break, stopped in August '23 and came back at the end of June '24 on Phastos' release week. It was rough. Even in a game like Snap where you're intended to retreat, I was retreating or losing almost every game. I also got a lot of new cards, since most of the spotlights were cards I didn't have? But the other side of that coin is that I don't want or use almost any of those cards. In the old system, I only unlocked what I wanted to use. It also meant that when I was finally able to get a card like White Widow who had been terrorizing me for months, she got nerfed in like two weeks because everyone else also got her.
      I'm mostly caught up now (credit card) and so I can say from both sides of not having and having the cards, the old system was so much more player friendly. Unless the player only cares about getting a card they don't own every week, in which case the current system is fantastic for them.

      Returning players do have it a bit rougher but I genuinely believe that you don’t need the latest cards to gain cubes, which is different from winning. How many players use even 10% of their collection? And how many players actually use the new cards past their first release week? There are so few of those, that if you’re careful with resources, you could get ever my card you’d use for longer than a week.
