      Unreal how jeeps keep their value. I've never seen anything special about them as far as quality of interiors or the powertrain. I always thought were a cool vehicle but not my first choice. My wife wants a new one but they want two arms and a leg and your first born child for one. I can look at the build sheets on two of the 4 door Wrangler's sitting side by side with the same exact print out and they will differ in price by up to 5k. I've seen most priced around the low 30k's but some are $50k. What the hell are so special about them. They better drive themselves. Dealers and used car lots have no explanation so I walk away because I don't trust you. I guess it's just in the demand. I've seen Jeeps that were junk and have been abused and they want $5,000.00 for them when anyone wouldn't give them more than $1,000.00 fore them and they will get it. I guess when you have that much money, it makes you stupid.

      @@donaldsharpless1746 You've never driven a Wrangler, clearly. You don't buy them for their interior quality or road manners. It's also pretty ignorant to inquire about $30-50k vehicles and not realize that there are different trims (Sport, Sports S, Sahara, Rubicon). You have the power of the internet, yet you can't do any research about a huge potential purchase and then get pissy at dealerships? Childish.

    • @donaldsharpless1746
      @donaldsharpless1746 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@pancakesimone I'm not getting pissy with any dealership. I'm just expressing on how a vehicle with a certain amount of value when it comes to interior and exterior levels of Jeeps can keep such a high value when they are worn the hell out can still bring such a high value. If you are Jeep lover, then they are the greatest vehicle ever made of course. All I'm saying is the point that if you lined up a few diff makers of multiple 4wd SUV's if you may, all in the $50,000 plus price tag and looked at quality of ride, power, room, practicality, the quality of interior and exterior parts, I don't see the alore towards Jeep Wranglers. I'm not talking about Grand Cherokee's and the like, I'm talking about the wranglers line. I've been in the car business all my life so I understand trim levels. I'm not being childish, it's just an opinion so don't get your panties all bunched up.

    For Sport, Sport S and Sahara trims the #1 most important option to get is the anti-spin rear differential, $595 option and it includes all terrain tires and the 3rd Gen Dana 44 HD. Without it you have a 3600cc V6 ATV essentially.

    • @Shakshuka69
      @Shakshuka69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not true. Unless you plan to run 35s on stock axles, there's no need for that. The BLD system comes standard on those trims and will do a lot more than an LSD will.

    • @donaldsharpless1746
      @donaldsharpless1746 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Shakshuka69 Uh, that's where you are wrong. The BLD does work like an LSD but not near as smooth. The Bld only locks the front diff with the rear. It doesn't shift the power to the other wheel that isn't spinning. If you have lsd, once one wheel spins, it transfer power to the other wheel and they both will spin. The Bld electronically applies the brake to the spinning wheel but still doesn't transfer power to the other wheel. I don't care what you do electronically, if you have an open diff, it will always be an open diff. If you are in 2wd and 1 wheel hits a sheet of ice with an open diff, you will sit there until you put it in 4wd and hope the front wheel that's going to pull is not on ice. In just 2wd and 1 wheel is on ice, the other wheel on dry ground will pull you out just like you never ran onto ice at all without even engaging the 4wd. The electronic traction control sucks. It applies the brake to the wheel spinning and is supposed to apply power to the wheel with traction. This will not happen with open diffs. It also cancels the power being applied by the throttle until you have no throttle. You can put the throttle on the floor but the engine will only sit there at idle or a little above and you have no power. I want the wheels to dig when I'm trying to navigate through deep snow. I've tested it and I hit the button to cancel it when I'm in 4wd and in snow. I've done it many times and it will leave you sitting and will go nowhere. It senses the wheel spin and cuts the throttle back until you have no throttle because if you are spinning there is no reason to apply more throttle because you will spin even more. I will navigate much better with lsd in slippery situations than you will ever with open diffs.

    • @Shakshuka69
      @Shakshuka69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@donaldsharpless1746 I'm not reading that whole thing because you're wrong. The transfer case splits power 50/50 to the front and rear axles. Applying brakes to one wheel on either axle forces power to the other wheel with an open diff. It has nowhere else to go. It cannot go back into the transfer case.

    • @donaldsharpless1746
      @donaldsharpless1746 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Shakshuka69 I agree but when you put a vehicle in 4wd for the last 100 years they all put 50% of the torque or power available to the front and rear driveshafts. If you have X amount of torque, you can't put 100% of that torque to both driveshafts. The more drivelines you have, the more that torque is distributed evenly to all drivelines. Yes, applying brakes does transfer the power to the other axle, but you are still only pulling with one wheel at a time. With LSD both wheels are pulling. Hence, pulling out and doing a burnout, you will only have one black mark on the pavement with an open diff and you will have two black marks with an LSD. That's why race cars have LSD's or a locked diff so both wheels pull evenly. An open diff, no matter how you look at it, will never pull with both wheels at any given time. It's only going to pull with one wheel no matter how you make it do it. Most vehicles today still operate they same way they did back in the day. They just have come up with a way to electronically control traction for you by applying brakes and other driving techniques because most people don't know how to properly drive a 4wd vehicle. It does help because most people just put gas in their car and turn the key and they expect to climb mountains without any knowledge of how their 4wd works. They give it big names as to entice a consumer to buy it because it's a sales gimmick. 4wd vehicles are only as good as the operator behind the wheel. You tell everyday Joe his Jeep has Command Trac, Trac Loc, LSD, BLD, Open diffs, Lockers, or anything else you want to call it, and they look at you like you have 4 eyes. I agree that in most everyday driving situations, LSD is not needed and you can do what you want to do with most factory setups. But, anytime you can have more wheels pulling at the same time, you have better traction anyway you look at it.

      I've been driving manuals in one form or another for probably 50 years. Some have a linear engagement over a long distance, some are very abrupt. If you get one that is a bit different than what you've been driving for awhile, it might take a couple of days to get used to it so that you don't notice the difference. I've test drove both the JK and the JL with a manual transmission and I would have to say that the JL is definitely smoother -- not that I have a problem with the JK's.
      It seems that these days, a manual transmission could be considered a theft prevention device since so many of the millennial car thieves you hear about on the news fail in their attempts because they can't drive a manual. :)
      I would prefer the key activated the ignition instead of that electronic button. I have no problem with vehicles that have starter buttons, but they should be the old style of mechanical button where it is just routing power to the starter motor. These were the heavy spring loaded, often brass, buttons that routed engaged the starter as long as you held it down instead of the ones you see these days which just tell the computer to try to start the car.

When I sold it with 210k and I’ve owned that jk since 19k I’ve had zero issues, now I’ve ran the vin and seems the OG owner had a injector issues and had it replace, but I’ve never had an issue.

    I would never even consider paying $30k for this thing. Far too basic. For the $26,995 base price you should at least be getting A/C and power windows if nothing else... but Jeep knows this will sell and Jeep knows they can make a bunch of money off of it.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      See, I disagree. I've never taken the doors of a Wrangler nor do I care to; it's not my type of vehicle. But as far as I'm concerned, it really should be a simple single electrical clip deal if it isn't already. That sounds easy enough to me.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree... or I would, if it were actually reasonably priced.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes. You're paying $27,000 for a 2-door Wrangler with a standard mass-production V6 that doesn't even have A/C. My concern is that their base price is far too much. It's a small, basic vehicle that costs them far, far less to produce than the price they ask.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I feel that they need to choose one way or another. The Jeep brand is starting to suffer from the same problems all the German and European brands do - they upcharge for the brand alone, and give you less for it. Wrangler is a famous vehicle and the bean counters at FCA have little dollar signs in their eyes because of it.
      Jeep either need to reduce the base price a bit more, or give you more standard features for the current base price. That's my view on it. This new generation is nearly $4,000 more expensive than the outgoing one. And yes, it's massively and hilariously improved, especially on road which is where I see the vast majority of Wranglers anyway. But I don't think for a second it commands the even greater pricing.

    • @ShellShock794
      @ShellShock794 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OSTKCabal You're forgetting about how well Jeeps hold their value.
      Yes, they are expensive and $30,000 is a lot for what you get but in 10 years it's still going to be worth $20,000.
      They're not like other vehicles where you buy them for $20,000 and they're worth $7,000 in like 6 years

    It looks like the manual windows roll down faster than the electric ones. One thing that I did notice on the JK though is that the manual window handle sticks right into the side of my left knee when the window is rolled all the way up. If the JL is also that way, I think I would have to look into seeing it it is possible to rotate it so that it would rest in a place that wasn't in the way.

    • @Arrowhead45x

      Well, the JL that I ordered came in a month ago and I lucked out and the window crank did not need to be removed.
      Found out today that during heavy rain, the water off the drip rail pours right into the floorboard. I also found out that if you park with your passenger side wheels up on a curb, it changes the angle so that the water does not fall into the vehicle. I had already read of people having that issue, so I was expecting it anyway and wanted to test to see if putting one side up on a curb was enough of an angle change to keep it from happening.

    What kind of profits does FCA make on these? Nearly $30k for a crude off road bias vehicle in base spec is a lot to swallow. Why can't this be a $20k vehicle in base form? Don't get me wring, I applaud them. I can see Kia coming in and filling in yet another market segment with a Wrangler-like vehicle for under $20k. Until then, Jeep will run wild with it's pricing.

    • @jacobbaker1921

    • @brandonmoore9440
      @brandonmoore9440 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually not just them charging a high amount of money like people think it is, FCA has to manufacture the wrangler and it uses almost zero parts and so they can't use the same manufacturing molds for any other vehicle other than the infotainment system that is used in any other fca vehicle so the economies of scale hurt this vehicle it's not like let's say an f150 that also uses a lot of it's parts in other vehicles like the expedition or the silverados and the tahoes. If a company like kia came into make a competitor it would probably use a lot of parts from another cheap high selling vehicle they have so very little of it would be "new" as far a manufacturing standpoint. I do agree that they overpricing what it could be but the wrangler isn't ever going to be a vehicle they can sell for the price of a honda crv because of the reasons I said but they could lower it by a few thousand and still make a good profit I'm sure of that.

      Mark Shull well historically Jeeps where fully stripped out offroad vehicles and they’ve gotten much nicer so that’s why he might be saying it’s a “city lady” version or something. I wouldn’t mind having a nice Jeep though lol. No need to go deaf with road noise and deal with an honestly “crappy” car.

    • @jessek9985
      @jessek9985 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here in Australia Jeeps aren't used as off roads, Great cars.. But honestly for the price they cost here you can get a much better 4x4, And more importantly and no offence to Jeep lovers but these things tend to fall apart off-road.. In Australia we usually use what you call pickup trucks offroad so.. Something like a ford ranger.
      They've turned into road cars these days here just because Jeep have stopped focusing on upgrading their 4x4 abilities while other companies, particularly Toyota and Isuzu have jumped right into the 4x4 market with value and modern quality 4x4 features.

    • @jessek9985
      @jessek9985 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just wanna comment a couple of things, I don't own one but I drive Jeeps every few days at my job on and off ships.
      The 6 speed is great I don't know why you don't feel that but for the car it is I feel 6 speed is perfect
      The turning circle in most Jeeps isn't very good at all.. I do agree in the 3 door wranglers it feels like it's about 10.5-12m turning circle but the steering isn't so responsive I feel.
      The acceleration in the new Jeeps is ridiculous, Particularly in the Grand Cherokees, you put your foot down in one of these they'll go.. much more than a standard Lexus / Merc SUV
      The best feature for me is the boxy design, It's so easy to park and you can park within an inch of something ahead of you just due to how much of the front end you can see without having to sit up.
      The steering wheel, Man I don't know what it is but it is so satisfying, It looks so clean and just perfect and it feels so comfortable, definitely would be suited for long driving trips, I know that seems weird but I've driven cars where I've just felt my hands got uncomfortable quiet quick.
      Most of all.l Don't buy a jeep if you aren't prepared to pay for all the extras in it that every other car would give you as a stand alone option, This includes things like air con in some models and even remote central locking.
      Great cars but in Australia they're pure shit just due to howmuch they cost here.

      yeah i dont know, you might be right. However, the shape of the buttons and overall appearance is way too similar to an a3 steering wheel from like 2016 for example.

      It's weird to explain it, but in person they look nothing alike. The actual 3D shape of everything in person are totally different from each other, plus none of the buttons are similar.

    I have a 2017 Renegade Sport and really want to upgrade to the 2019 Wrangler Sport but it will really irritate me to lose power doors and windows.

    As a 2015 jku owner, I can't understand the options on this. Much prefer the JK over the JL

    I can tell you had an older one by the way you tried to fold the seat forward lol. You reached for the old lever

    Hi there! Are you planning on another Wrangler review soon to see what's new? What about a Willys review?

    Thanks for the video! Looking into ordering a 2019 4 door. Hows the positioning for the pedals? I'm 6'0 and i'm currently in a JKU rental and the gas/brake pedal is kinda awkward.

    4:20 I disagree. The wind noise, at least compared to a TJ which I formally owned, is much much lower. I can live with it at 75 miles an hour!

    I know carmakers generally want journalists to ride their full-package model and I understand why they do it. But more base models reviews, pretty please.
