I step through the process of setting up the Charmhigh CHMT48VB Pick and Place machine for a small PCB while explaining each step in great detail. There is a LOT to learn when using this machine, but I try to make everything as clear as possible.
Is there anything else you'd like to know about this design? Leave a comment down below!

Hi Shane, there are a couple things I would suggest doing different. First, it is generally not necessary have a component in the tape, you can, as you stated later in the video, center on the pocket in the tape, not the component. Second, pulling the tape to feed it (when you were trying to expose a component) will likely shift the location of the feed holes with respect to the drag pin that drops down. Getting the drag pin aligned with the sprocket holes on the tape is pretty fussy/tedious. That is subject to a whole other video.

Mr. Kent , thanks for the video. Do you have any experience with fiducial PCB calibration on same machine. I tried once but without good result. Simply 48VB didnt place correctly any component. I tried to go back to PCB Commponent calibration didnt work as well. Factory reset made me back to Commponent calibration.

Hi Shane how's everything going with this Pick and Place? I see some youtubers having difficulty and precision with this machine

Hi Ryan - I’m in the lucky bunch of people who purchased this machine and haven’t experienced any quality related issues with it. I know a lot of people have problems, but I really have yet to experience those myself.

Can you use cut tape with this or need a reel?

Yes, you can use cut tape. You don’t need to use a reel.

Hilarious. The device tells you to wait 20 seconds before pressing the button, but doesn't time it for you?! Does it come with a hand stopwatch? Good indicator of design quality right there..

I have a model below this, a CHMT36VA, no screen so the control interface is through your computer running their software. The build quality is actually pretty decent. The software, particularly setting up a run is pretty clunky. I've counted to five and that is enough time. I think it is to cover the time needed to load the file. I think 20 seconds is to cover something with a very large number of components. I've not tested that yet.

Charmhigh sold a defective machine to Unexspected Maker and would not repair or replace. Do not buy, check out unexpected maker channel and see for yourself.

Absolutely. I've been following that story since it broke and it's definitely unfortunate. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Charmhigh, but each customer needs to make up their mind about whether or not they will trust Charmhigh with their business. If you want a more trustworthy company, then I would look for more expensive brands in Europe and Canada.

There has been a lot of issues with Charmhigh lately, so I completely understand this comment. I will say that I’ve had nothing but solid experiences with both their products and their customer service. There really aren’t any better options when looking for systems at this price point.
