I think it may also speak, in part, to the mixed feelings Brits seem to have about Americans. As an American living here, I meet lovely people who don't care where I'm from and lovely people who are excited to talk to me about the US. And then I meet people who think it's perfectly fine to make fun of Americans and me to my face (or to talk about me when I'm present as if I'm not there), as if I should shoulder all of their mixed and negative feelings. I think it may also speak, in part, to the mixed feelings Brits seem to have about Americans. As an American living here, I meet lovely people who don't care where I'm from and lovely people who are excited to talk to me about the US.
