59 dead after boat carrying migrants shipwrecked off Italian coast

- At least 59 people including twelve children, have died after an overloaded migrant boat sailing from Turkey was shipwrecked in rough seas off Southern Italy

The wooden vessel apparently broke in two as it tried to land near the seaside resort of Steccato di Cutro on the eastern coast of Calabria. It's believed the more than one hundred people on board came from countries including Iran, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Sadly they don't have magic money trees in Africa, while the middle east does seem to have have reserves of oil but doesn't seem to distribute any wealth created evenly to assist its citizens. Here in Europe we tend to have welfare states, with housing, health care, education & social security payments. If these benefits are accessible 'free at the point of entry' then we are not dangling a carrot, but many big bags of carrots....

Yes you are correct in highlighting that this is a human tradagy but sadly one that could have been prevented if these people weren't promised a better life in Europe if they are prepared to take some very dangerous risks, while being financially tied to the ring masters that are putting them on such a perilous journey.
