that's only half of it, we saw him live twice. When he would sing certain notes a certain way, an audience would fall silent. Go to the video of him singing "A House Is Not A Home" with Janet Jackson and Dionne Warwick sitting in the audience. Warwick can't believe what he does to her song and cries at the end.
Luther simply didn't sing a song.......HE STOMPED ON IT.......the man branded the song with a hot-iron, like a cattle rancher does livestock. I truly don't have the words to adequately express how much I miss the TALENT of Luther Vandross.....and the significant role he has played in my life. God has reclaimed a magnificent lead vocalist for the Heavenly choir. He took the best one the Earth had to offer.
MrAliquippawill1 I know exactly what you mean Him Smokey Eddie And Gerald Levert and Eddie Kendricks and El Debarge can sing anything I would love it some of them are not hear in the body I got love for them all and oh yeah Ron Isley their music will never play out. alot of children of today are discovering these. singers are beautiful!
I am literally crying at just how wonderful a singer Luther Vandross was. No one could sing like that man. All of his live performances were superb and I just feel so sad that he's not here with us anymore. He took Smokey's words and made them his own and it was a touching tribute.
Every time I hear Luther or see him on vid. I want to cry buckets. There have been many brilliant artists who have left us...but this one has left a big, big hole that can't be filled.
me too crying my eyes out. we have just lost so many performers who are irreplacable - hendrix, amy winehouse, phoebe snow, luther, prince, gregory hines, bob marley, and more - just great great losses of monumental talents that I thought I would be able to see into my old age
@William Jackson. Luther wasn't only loved in the black community, as a hispanic woman we loved him very much too. He was loved by all. I cry because he suffered tremendously after his stroke, but God knew it was time for him to go home. How blessed we were to have him. But he never belonged to us he belonged to Jesus. Eternal Rest Grant unto Mr. Vandross O Lord and let thy Perpetual Light Shine Upon him. Amen🙏❤️
I love him singing "The Power of Love" and what is incredible he was so generous with his backup singers that let them show their particular talented selves which was great during the concert. What a show Luther Vandross gave which was outstanding.
Luther was not justa singer. He was a singer that could tell you a story thru his voice if you know what I mean. This man voice took me out of this world and into another world. I missed this talented singer.
Oh I know what you mean! That man took me on a journey every time he sings. I really do miss him. I regret that i never got to see him live before he died.
Luther was one of the best vocalsist/performers that ever lived, whose unique vocal style still remains unparalleled. Smokey's one of the all-time great songwriters of popular music. so, it was a real treat to see Luther singing the songs of one of his heroes. and, the masterful rendition he did of Smokey's signature song "Ooh, Baby, Baby" was magnificent... bringing to it a grace and style equal to, if not better than the original. man, i truly miss that brother. God bless you, Luther!!!
Smoky is clearly enjoying Luther especially at 5:52. It's a priceless expression on Smoky's face. People hate comparisons but I don't think I'll ever hear a voice on par w/his. There's just another level of excellence in technique and emotional content in his singing. I listen to all the greats but Luther's voice sends me to another plane - a musical nirvana that I don't get from even the very best of the other greats. Special dude!
Just look at Smokey's face at 5:53 on this video and his look says it all, the look of a very proud "father" watching one of his babies bloom. Luther did so much justice to this song that it was as good to listen to as the original, I'm gonna miss hearing new recordings from this brother, but I have all the Luther classics so he'll sing on these days.....sing on brother, sing on
To me Luther had one of the most beautiful voices ever. I heard him sing live in concert and he blew my mind. I truly enjoyed his talent and still miss him very much. rip - Luther - you are so missed. Also, Ray Charles and Nat King Cole both were my favorites too.
Every artist who have ever had Luther sing their one of their songs have received one of the highest honors ever .There should be an award given in his name each year. 📀💿📀💿📀💿🏆🏆🏆
A masterful vocalist whose voice was like velvet, paying tribute to the master of crooners and the pioneer of the Motown sound. What a beautiful thing...Love you Smokey! Love and miss you Luther!... Now you are dancing with your father....
No one I mean no one can’t touch this. He is absolutely the greatest ever!!!! The songs they put out now is garbage. I’m old school ima keep playing Luther until I get old n grey. Love u brotha!! Your truly the best ever...God bless
I come back to hear this every now and then.. Luther killed it with ooh baby baby!!! A great song that had great lyrics from a great song writter and performer..
Smokey is so proud of Luther singing his songs. He's beaming with glee😁 Luther is the right one to sing them too.🎤🎼🎶🎶🎶❤👏👏👏👏👏😊 continue to rip dearest one🙏
There was no song , no range, this man couldn't tackle. Once Luther covered someone else's signature song, he owned it forever. You don't even want to hear the original.
Luther Vandross...... so silky smooth. The man will come out and just steal another legendary singers portfolio!! Love ya Smokey but Luther took 3 of your very good songs and made them great on that night. Wished he hadn't left us so soon. He should of gotten to enjoy the awards, inductions and the feel of the new red carpet laid out for the king to walk on. RIP L.V. YOU WERE A JOY TO SEE AND HEAR
Luther's music is formidable in itself. He definitely laid down the groundwork in R&B music, period. R&B sure does not sound like it did when I was growing up. And I'm only 23. Long live great classic soul music!! RIP Luther.
Luther is in the choir of Heaven. THANK YOU LUTHER! You are in our hearts forever. Smokey, now don't you be going anywhere;0 WE LOVE OUR SMOKEKY, HE'S RULE, TRUE, AMAZAINGLY TALTENTED, AND SUCH A TRUE HEART! LOVE YOU SMOKEY!!!!
You are missed in 2020 Mr. Vandross.. May you rest in peace and grace the heavens with your voice !!! Thank you for all the great memories.. You are not forgotten.
From One LEGEND...... To Another LEGEND......The legendary Mr. Luther Vandross, always gave us his all, the world has truly lost an amazing masterpiece...R.I.P..Luther, you are so truly missed. Love you, Mr. Smokey Robinson...you are still the real deal.!!
I feel so sorry for the youth of today! THIS IS MUSIC! Thank God we still have some of the SINGERS from the time talent really existed! They say,and I know, music changes, but damn, why? I guess if that's all they know, that's ok. Thank goodness for youtube.
It's funny, when Chaka Khan was questioned about the difference in performers today(interview was circa 2015) she responded, TALENT. Sadly she's right because I remember a time when guys would stand on street corner and harmonize and sing and they were great. I think Luther was a singer who did that. Those days are gone but will return sooner than later😍
luther luther luther!!!!! its just amazing how he can capture you in one instant. He truly made you listen and he always made you want more of him. In a lead all by himself and so is my inspiration Mr Smokey Robinson. Great Moment!!!!!!!!!!!!
A M A Z I N G. There are no words to describe how good Luther is. It really is a sad shame he’s no longer with us. Had so much more to offer the world. RIP Luther. So many great songs and a voice as smooth as silk
There will never be any Male Singer in the HISTORY of this World who will ever TOP for me, LUTHER VANDROSS. Luther was the best and always will be. There will never be a voice like this. I've loved him for over 25 years and there isn't a day in these 25 years that i didn't play one of his songs. I love him, miss him.
Ooh, Baby Baby.... Smokey's version always made my eyes well up with tears... Luther's made the tracks of my tears flow down my cheeks. I loved Luther so much.... we saw him six times... and never knew whether we were going to see fat Luther or skinny Luther. The voice was still his. I can't say it enough... I loved Luther then and I love Luther now....
Thanks for posting this. I smile and felt warm just hearing Luther sing so beautifully. I know he is in heaven singing up something. May he be received into the kingdom.
Luther always sang like the bills were due. The man would grab a mic and you already knew what you were in for.
❤ great tribute x
that's only half of it, we saw him live twice. When he would sing certain notes a certain way, an audience would fall silent. Can't stop crying
No other male R&B singer could have given a better tribute to Smokey than Luther did. They got the right singer to do it
Greatest male soul singer ever, bar none.

That Girl At The Party
My sentiments exactly...!!!
As we say in the African community, when God wanted to drop a song, it fell out of Luther's mouth

Someone should have called the police, 'cuz Luther straight-up KILLED it!! He was literally the best singer of the 20th century.
Mark Flanigan Luther is great. But let's not forget the fabulous LOU RAWLS. He was such a manly baritone! None today:-/
Micheal Jackson???????
He killed the whole room. It was mass murder.
@@kwametodd6094 No man. Sam Cooke.
Guess what people, no need to debate who was better because they all belong to us now and 4ever.

Miss him to this day!!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!🤗
I love how Tom Joyner and Lawrence Fishburne react when Luther hits that note in the front row. Luther was the greatest.
Now this guy is a legend, a real artist who could sing every note of his songs!
He sure touched Smokey and made him smile. Just like his style touched many of us. RIP Luther.
If Luther sings your song, it no longer belongs to you it belongs to Luther. Thsse songs are his now. That performance was outstanding..
