I'm honored to be mentioned in the video! I actually think you're a natural on a sport bike, once you got comfortable you had a decent lean angle going. I hope to see more sport bikes on your channel in the future from time to time :)
The snow on the ground here in Minnesota forces me to ride vicariously through you. While you are not riding a street bike for the first time, it reminds me of my first time coming from some fairly fast dirt bikes. I drove about 100 miles away to pick up a 2006 Honda 919 hornet and I initially had trouble turning as I had to counter steer more than I was used to. As soon as I got used to that I got on a straight and revved it to about 5-6krpm which is about half of redline and where I know it now just starts to wake up. It was still the fastest machine I had ridden. Overall it was everything I could ask for and more. So smooth, torquey, and the sound was amazing. I felt like I had purchased a Japanese rocket that had been engineered for precision and at the same time almost fictional performance . I still own that bike and being a Honda it runs like new with no issues at over 40,000 miles. It is my commuter in the summer as well as a fun weekend rider. It gets 40mpg on 87 octane, and registration and insurance is under $200 a year here for it. It almost feels that it is free to drive, and since I only paid $3000 for it I don't worry about do so until its wheels fall off (though I do baby it and maintain it well so that will most likely never happen). There is no other bike that I would rather own for those reasons, and I am looking forward to 4-5 months from now when I can do that again lol!
LOVE THE VIDEO!! Man that brought back some great memories for me and I'm very thankful for you doing this series! Really glad to see you enjoyed the ride and I hope Ed has all the enjoyment he remembers. By far STILL my favorite channel on TH-cam.
After stepping off that Zero and stepping onto that CBR, it was like night and day. I had forgotten where the friction point was on that CBR's clutch, but moments later it all came back to me. I nearly red lined through the gears, and hit 125 before turning it around. The Zero is quiet, and I like that. But every so often . . .
With sportbikes you're supposed to squeeze the tank with your thighs and legs. Use your core to hold yourself up while being light on the hand controls (and wrists). We love y'all!!! ❤❤
Ahh the memorise of that engine sound. I had a 93 CBR as my first proper bike (in the UK we have license restrictions on cc when you first pass your test). I adored it and it used to make my trips from South Wales to Oxford for University so much fun. Unfortunately I was far too trusting and when a dodgy acquaintance at work asked me where I lived I told him. The next morning I came outside to ride to work and it was gone. Never saw it again.
Had a 03 CBR 954rr best and most fun bike I ever had. Very easy to get carried away on it though, so light and powerful just felt you could do anything on it.
Sometimes the desire for the bike wanting to steer in can be cured with a new front tire at the correct tire pressure. The Ninja 600s are pretty cool bikes. Nice to see you riding a sport bike. Merry Christmas to You and your family.
Hips don't lie... LoL. I had a white/red 1988 Hurricane and LOVED every minute I spent on it EXCEPT for the terrible wrist pain if I wasn't at speed... The wife never did like the tiny perch she was assigned on the back so the fun only lasted about 18 months. Sure wish I had that one back again... Good video! Keep it going!
I had a ‘99 and ‘00 CBR 600 F4i and an ‘04 RC 51. Sure do miss those machines. Nowadays, I ride a ‘24 Honda Trail 125 to keep me from getting carried away. Definitely still a fun ride for an old guy.
Great video I would just like to thank you both for the videos you make a middle age mostly boring man happy and have a chuckle while learning how to fix bikes. Merry Christmas to you and both your family's and a happy New year
Glad you like the videos, they are a way for this boring middle aged guy to share his interests and ideas with internet friends. Merry Christmas to you.
Another job well done Jake! Yes, please take a ride on the Zero S and give us your opinion!! I own numerous dirt and street bikes that I love and I'm about ready to hopefully add an electric bike to my garage. Would love to hear your knowledgeable feedback on it!
That's why the CBR's gas tank got so nasty. After I bought the Zero, the CBR just sat there. Be careful, the same thing could happen to you cuz the Zero is so fun to ride. The instant torque has gotten me out of a bad situation many times. He definitely wants to ride the Zero, but with the holidays we just need to work out a time to do it.
I had the first Ninja when I was serving in the Army at Ft Ord. It was brutal in two places. Both are where your body made the most contact with the bike. Wrists and between the jean pockets...and I was twenty. They might be fun to take on a quick ride but I don't think I'd ever own a crotch rocket again.
when i convinced my friend to get his full bike licence many years ago , i recommended a he get a cheap f2 honda 600 . and it was the ideal first big bike for him ,cheap insurance , it,s really good on fuel , i,m sure he rode it that bike for years and years with no issue,s .great little bike,s ,bulletproof engine,s . the honda f-series where more of a sports cruiser than a out and out pure sports bike ,giving you the best of both worlds
@ a couple days ago I rode a bit farther than that just to go for a ride. A few weeks ago I drove to Minnesota. I get out, just don’t really “need” that DR350 but it would be nice for helping my friend who owns my old Suzuki. Let me know when you want to ride! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
The 98/99' Zx9r's are absolute rocket-ships for their age. Couldn't believe it was legal to sell or why anyone would need anymore than that the 1st time I rode one. Made the zx6r of a similar vintage (much like your 96') I borrowed while the 9r was down feel like a DR650, albeit with almost 3x the Rpm limit lol I think the 9r still makes a good sporty tourer even today. Pretty roomy & comfortable given the riding position.
Awesome video, interesting to hear your take on a new type of ride outside your wheelhouse. (Pun intended)I watched a guy lay down his street bike going 95 on the highway last summer on I-5 in Oregon. His jeans looked like they went thru a confetti cannon.
You’ve got to take it to the redline through 2nd & 3rd at least just once down a straight road. I used to ride one and other similar Hondas and used to take them to redline constantly 😂 they are a different beast up the top of the rpm
I did, I did. Got it up to 125 in a heartbeat. Oh what a feeling. Then got back on the Zero. . . Silence. I don't know why, but I feel more like I'm gonna kill myself on that CBR.

If I lived closer I'd offer a ride swap for experience sake. As it is, I'm up in Ottawa Ontario Canada. Snowing somethin' fierce here. No riding until at least late March early April. Merry Christmas to you, Camera Girl and the kids. Stay safe in the New Year.
That would be a fun trade. 2 fish out of water. After riding the cbr my best guess is that your bike would be like a very smooth riding missle. And you might feel like you're on a playing card with motor when you try a dirtbike. Glad you like the videos. Merry Christmas.
You're just south-east of Sacramento in Ione, how cold could it be? I've got a meter of snow on the ground and it was -31 °C (-24 °F) last night. No sympathy from me dude. Great video!
My friends and I ride most every weekend, if you rode with us on the Zero I bet you'd hate it--we usually go 300 miles in a day, we've done a couple of 400 mile days. He says the zero is faster but I know good running Honda 600s will do 150mph or so with very good acelleration. I doubt the Zero would be the star of our day trips.
The Zero will get me a little over 115 miles, and then I would have to stop for lunch. That's a lot of food in one day. Also the Zero tops out at 100. I have had that CBR cruising at 150, but it's not very comfortable. I kinda get the feeling like I could loose my life in a heartbeat. I had a guy pull up to me at a red light on a really loud two cycle machine. When the light changed I was gone on that Zero. At the next light I waited about ten seconds for him to pull up next to me. He said, "what the hell is it". I told him, electrons. He said, "that's not fair."
The "faster, and right now" thing he said can not be overstated. You can get in a world of hurt wayy quicker on an electric bike. They don't go as fast top speed wise because the electric engines have an rpm cutoff (most don't have gears), however 100% of the torque really is available right now, always. Way less forgiving than a gas bike.
@@gtfkt Electric engine? Nooo, it's a motor. And every single Zero I've seen in the MC wrecking yards has massive front end damage for that same reason. Faster than they thought, sooner than they thought, and they couldn't stop cuz the torque is incredible.

With a sports bike you do not get weight on the wrists when you wring their necks in the twisties and are moving about on the bike a lot, on the straights you need to be going fast enough that the wind drag lifts the weight off your wrists.
I own 3X 600SSP bikes, And I test rode that Zero S when it was new. I'd say, up to 70MPH it is faster than a 600, but after that the petrol bikes beating it..

I did race a Tesla single motor once and she couldn't catch me. Maybe I could talk Jake into checking this out sometime. Another meet up.
Hey, the most part you were driving it, ithought, why isnt he rving it like it is built to. Its a 600cc4cyl. Mine gets a bit faster at 5000 and at 8500 it has the power. On my twisty backroads here where i live i drive often in 2nd or 3rd gear to 60mph. On the straight roads or in cities i like to cruise in 6th for sound and fuel saving. But you can rev it to 12000 no problem
