Hey Everyone! We originally posted this last Thanksgiving. Out of an abundance of caution, we took it down after we got our first copyright strike on the channel (since they're the same company), but we're ready to give it another try! Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends! :)
Hell yeah. Dont bow down to the system! I just recently started to watch this every Thanksgiving. And had introduced this movie to my brother in law today!
About every hour and a half a train collides with another object or is derailed. Every two weeks a train that is carrying hazardous materials derails in the United States
Great reaction too a great holiday film. You might try "Stripes", "The Great Outdoors" or "Spaceballs" for more John Candy. To see a little more Steve Martin try, "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", "My Blue Heaven" and "Roxanne".
Yes, it even makes you feel bad after seeing how he was so irritating. I figure that he has those annoying habits because he's so used to traveling alone and being alone.
@@joeconcepts5552 Yeah and even though Del was super inconsiderate by using up all the towels and the noises he was making you're absolutely right in that he has been on his own for so long he forgot all those social cues one should have and he was also never trying to do it on purpose or be mean spirited. I understood Neal's frustration to lash out at him but he crossed the line into being plain cruel by attacking his character - who he is as a person. Things were going wrong for Neal since before he even met Del and he took it ALL out on him. That's why I love how Del stood up for himself and made Neal feel like the smallest man on earth for taking it too far ;)
When you learn about all the deleted scenes, it really makes you appreciate the ending much more. They sit down at a diner after they talk at the train station, and Del tells him that he gets attached to people during the holidays tries to help, but for some reason he felt more attached to Neal and “couldn’t let go”. A line that was ad-libbed that still stuck with Steve Martin years afterwards.
Also, Neil's wife thinks hes cheating on her throughout the movie. Which better explains her reaction at the end when she realizes he was telling the truth. They really should've left that in at least.
That does sound like a touching little scene I'd like to see. But from a film-making standpoint, it could have more impact to just quickly cut to them walking down the street. Could be an example of writing a long scene of dialogue thinking the plot needs explanation, while in the final film, we get it already. Del's a very lonely guy who tries to make friends everywhere he goes.
@@joeconcepts5552 Yeah. All the deleted scenes people have been talking about for years sound like fun and I'd love to see them, but putting them back into the movie would probably damage the flow.
lol My favorite is when Del is pretending to drink booze with his hand, while that couple is telling them they're driving the wrong way....John Candy had such excellent comical timing and talent, it sucks he left us too soon.
I HAVE WATCHED THIS FILM ABOUT A MILLION TIMES, ONE OF MY FAVORITES, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN THE COMPANY EXECUTIVE LOOKING AT THE ADVERTISING MATERIAL AT THE END. WHAT GIVES?? Great job reacting btw!!!
Another great reaction. My favorite scene is where he flips out at the car rental counter. Fun fact, he says the "F" word 19 times in that scene. That scene is what gave the movie it's R rating too. Second to that scene as a favorite of mine is the same as yours. The skeliton/devil scene. John Candy insisted on wearing the devil costume, though John Hughes was hesitant to let him do so. The day they filmed that scene, they had several studio executives visiting the set, and there's John Candy walking around in a devil costume. 🤣🤣
Another fun fact is how the F word is not used anywhere else in the movie. Most films, once they know they've cemented an R rating, will go ahead and use it through the film. But it's just the one scene, making it even more hilarious.
You're not wrong...John Candy maniacally laughing in the devil costume at a horrified Steve Martin is quite possible one of the funniest 3 seconds of film in movie history.
I miss John Candy. I really do. An underappreciated favorite of mine that's worth checking out is Volunteers, from 1985, which stars Tom Hanks (and his future wife) and John Candy.
This has become an annual watch for me. It's one of those precious few films that stays hilarious and heart-warming every year, and never gets old. RIP John Candy
John Candy was a true comedic genius as well as an elite actor. His small roles in The Blues Brothers and JFK are perfection. You can run through his entire catalog and you will not be disappointed. He was a true Hollywood A list actor at one time. The Blues Brothers National Lampoon’s Vacation Stripes Uncle Buck Home Alone The Silent Partner (not a comedy, but a crime drama) JFK Spaceballs Cool Runnings Brewster’s Millions And Only the Lonely (he is the leading man in a romance. Think about how much presence and charm a guy like that has to have to land a leading man role!)
John Candy was an underutilised treasure. If you want to see more of him, you definately have to see Cool Runnings (1993), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Brewster's Millions (1985) and, if you wanna see how his non-comedic acting was underestimated, Oliver Stone's JFK (1991) which I highly recommend!
Oh yes, JFK is star studded. Forgot Candy was in it. Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon , Joe Pesci, and Gary Oldman, & even Newman from Seinfeld!
While never been confirmed, it’s always just been assumed that Kevin Bacon was playing the character from “She’s Having a Baby”, another John Hughes movie that came out the following year, and is also playing on the tv at the hotel in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
For a comedy film that is so unbelievably funny to have 2 bits in it that just cuts so deep in the emotional aspect of John Candy's character is amazing.
Wonderful Thanksgiving movie! I was an unspottable extra in this movie. It was shot in and around Chicago, and when they asked for people to be extras in the film, I signed up. The group I was assigned to spent two days in a bus station (When the girls buy the "earrings"). RIP John Candy
John Candy was an icon up here in Canada. I grew up with him on SCTV, then he got big doing a ton of great movies. This was his finest film, dramatic and comedic, all wrapped up in one great buddy comedy with a perfect message. Cheers, nice reaction guys.
I think for the most of us 80’s babies, I can say for all of us, this has officially become our Thanksgiving movie. Nice to see others fall in love with it. Happy thanksgiving guys.
There’s apparently a 3 hour cut to this movie and one of the deleted scenes involves them in a diner after Del confesses about his home and wife. Del explains how he left his home because it was too painful there without his wife and how he attaches himself to people during the holidays so that he isn’t fully alone but with Neil it was more difficult for him to let go. That honestly sounds beautiful to watch and the other deleted content sounds great. I say we get #ReleaseTheHughesCut going
Just commented on this myself. I don’t think there is a hidden cut. I don’t think the master copies exist anymore, sadly. Only a few still images from the scene.
There was also supposedly a sub plot where Neil's wife suspected he was having an affair and was using the excuse of being unable to get home so he could be with her. So when he arrives and she hears him and Del, she starts crying realizing that he was telling the truth and hadn't been cheating on her.
@@newspooiechannel I can see why both of these were cut. The sound fine on their own and I am sure they were, but the change the film. Thanks for the info.
I highly recommend watching John Candy in 'Only the Lonely', it's an underrated gem, he's fantastic in it and it marks the return of Maureen O'Hara to the screen after a forty year absence as his domineering mother. Next to PT&A it's my favorite role of his.
The best part of your reaction video was they're driving the wrong way & they drive their car between two semi-trucks. When Steve Martin's character goes "skeleton" & John Candy's character turns into the devil, your laughing 10-15 seconds at the scene was absolutely contagious & had me laughing just as hard!!! Great reaction video you two!!! Keep it going!!!
That guy that picks them up in his truck cracks me up, Steve Martin’s face when he shakes his hand after he wipes his mouth from spitting on the floor haha!
Can’t be the first John Candy film you sat through because y’all have seen Spaceballs, nonetheless, Brewster’s Millions, The Great Outdoors, and Cool Runnings. I loved John Candy when I was a kid.
This is one of my fav comedy duo team ups. I just watched this film the other night so it was a beautiful surprise to see you (re)upload this. Thanks for the great content as always.
Steve Martin, "Can't you cut me a break, I've been wearing the same underwear since Tuesday" John Candy, "Ahh, I can vouch for that". Ahhh the glory of holiday travel.
I was like 10 when John Candy passed away. But just like with Farley I legitimately cried. Those two were comedy icons who I looked up to growing up. Fucking miss them two so much. Candy just had that charm to him no matter what role he played he shined. We all miss you John!
One of my favorite things about this movie is John Candys moustache and how they intro his character by showing him in the cab with that look on his face. And then they flash that shot again when they're sitting in the airport and he's recognizing him. I think it went so well with his character being like the most obnoxious person you could ever meet, along with everything else about John playing that part and his performance of course. I think this is my favorite John Candy movie and performance
I love this movie and even though I'm not American, I usually watch it as a Christmas film. I almost died laughing the first time I saw the scene where Steve Martin speaks in a high pitched voice after getting punched in the nuts.
Uncle Buck has to be John Candy's funniest film. But he was great! Then there's Cool Runnings, The Great Outdoors, Canadian Bacon, Stripes, Space Balls
Fantastic movie. I guess "Uncle Buck" for your next John Candy movie, and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (Steve Martin & Michael Caine- 1988) for a similar feel to P,T&A?
The stretch of the movie from the car rental counter up to Neil punching Del and falling over the trunk is such an amazingly funny and well-written sequence. All these little pieces build up to the climax. Like the cigarette in the back seat that you almost forget, though you can see a little smoke appear in the "wrong way" scene.
My favorite parts have always been their frozen faces after that horrible ride and the dog is frozen too. And the “I want a fkng car right fkng now.” speech.
Steve Martin has been my hero since I was a little kid in the eighties. I just love how he can make anything funny, and usually has an odd way of doing things.
When John Candy turned into the devil I was also caught off guard and couldn't stop laughing! I watched this video yesterday but still chuckle at the thought of that scene. Had to come back and comment on this😅

11:08 Yeah, apparently that moment was improvised. They secretly kept the cameras rolling on Steve in that moment and he was preparing for the next scene. He had no idea, that he was being filmed in that moment, that´s why it feels so genuine.....
When Del takes his shoes/socks off on the airplane, all I can think about is that Bill Burr/Conan O'Brien interview where Burr says, "If I were a dictator, those people would be eliminated" lol.

"YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!"
"They're drunk. How do they know which way we're going?" 🤣 John Candy was amazing.
That is probably the funniest line in the whole film (which is really saying something) and John Candy delivers it perfectly.
How do they know which way we are going - priceless hahahaha.
@@joebombero1 “Yeah how would he know?”
Just Candy's scream before they crash is what kills me
God the part where Neal rips into Del in the motel and he gives that "I like me" speech always breaks my heart. John Candy was absolutely sublime :)

You HAVE to watch Nothing But Trouble. John Candy, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd.
DARK Humor. Such an original and one of a kind movie.
I will forever laugh at the scene between two trucks, no matter how many times I see it, iconic comedy.

The Great Outdoors (John Candy and Dan Ankroyd)
The Three Amigos (Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short)
Undercover Blues (Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid)

The whole car rental scene is the reason why this movie is rated R, for the amount of "Fucks" they say in that scene.
My fave scene was they were snuggling together!😆
The ending never fails to get to me. This is also the only really good Thanksgiving movie I have seen.
The great outdoors is awesome too
Another Steve Martin classic really worth seeing is ROXANNE. It's a romcom written by Martin himself and has IMO his best performance.
