This version is a perfect example of why Gillian Welch is an artist who uses music as her medium. No matter how lovingly enhanced the original work is, it's still a copy inspired by the heart and hands of the artist's soul. Brittany Haas' violin cries out the sharecropper's quiet desperation. Beautiful.
Nicely played, but how could they leave out the 3rd verse?? It's absolutely critical to the story being sung, not to mention the true gut-punch of the entire song.
Really captured the spirit of Gillian’s song. Gorgeous!
astounding, class act chris thile and co are and always have been
Such a triumphant song. Thanks for absolutely rocking it and finally being back, guys!!

Just when you thought a Gillian Welch song couldnt get any better
cool to hear this at its normal speed!
Loved the fiddle solo
Impossible not to be entranced by work of Brittany, IMHO.
A winner. Thanks.
I miss “Live from Here” so much 😭😖

I had to go back to make sure they skipped the 3rd verse. Pretty key to the song.
Agreed.
not as melancholy as Gillian's but nice all the same.
