Your message is so important! I am practising trauma surgeon/EM doc, and there are still times when I feel stressed without being entirely sure why. Medicine is a long, fulfilling career - but you will only be able to enjoy the whole ride, the whole length of it, if you take care of yourself.
This is what I've learned about MED school (i quit btw after 2 years, just NOT for me lol). You need to be in a group to really help you out mentally. A group of MED friends who will challenge you and be there for you through ups and downs... YOU CAN'T BE ALONE in this journey, it will be tougher girl. YOU need to GET OUT MORE and be with that group; doing study groups, practical quizzes and practicing clinical stuffs with them (like doing mock history taking and etc). You should also reach out to UPPER CLASS students for notes, QUIZ NOTES especially since most exams and quizzes at med school are usually the same every year just some minor modifications... YOU GOT THIS GIRL!
I am a pre-medical student and I myself was feeling really off today so I decided to watch your video because that honestly makes me feel a little better about myself that I’m not alone in this hard core journey. I just wanted you to know that if becoming a doctor was that easy then everyone would have become one so just be easy on yourself and I totally believe that you will be able to do it! Because there is this famous saying that indeed with hardship comes ease
It’s sooo easy to get in a bad slump when in school, especially in the field you are doing! Im in nursing school rn and its so difficult to not feel burntout and feel like im failing literally everyday lmao. A new way to get my mind healthier is i allow myself to enjoy the early parts of the mornings for myself and take walks and watch movies and stuff. I dont have class til night so i do that for ab the first 2-3hrs. I look forward to your videos now to watch during the mornings :))) pls know theres no rush to get back to 100% school is sooo hard mentally take your time, have a good cry, reach out and talk to your classmates and TREAT YOURSELF. Go buy a little something for yourself you deserve it. Also (I’ve commented this before lol) thank you for showing the good and bad its so refreshing to see others going through the same type of thing and feel not so alone.
thank you for the kind words! finding time for oneself is critical for success (apparently!) best of luck on the rest of ur nursing school journey :) and thank u for the support!!
Oh girl I feel you ! Had the same feeling during my first year of medecine (in Europe though), where you feel like you’re kind of depressed, always stressed out, and about to cry most of the time… I know it’s SO uncomfortable but you need to remember that how hard it gets, it is a TEMPORARY feeling and that you will definitely feel better in some time and so proud of yourself for pushing through it ! And as your mentor said, don’t be afraid to take time to rest, call your family, friends, etc even though it might feel like you should be studying instead. You deserve it !
Keep doing what you are doing! You are so inspiring! I felt the same in PA school, it was hard some days. Remember your why, remember you will always remember what you get wrong more often than what you get right, remember to do you and do what makes you feel good! You got this the exams don't define you nor does medicine!
ugh thank you 🥹 its hard sometimes and comments like this bring tears to my eyes bc it makes me feel like what i’m going thru is normal even tho it totally doesn’t feel like it. i appreciate u 🤍
You seem like a super awesome person to hangout with, so I think I'll subscribe and stick around for the journey. Keep it up you're doing marvelous!!!👊🏿❤️
Thank you so much for making these videos! There are so few people who show the emotional aspect of the day-to-day of a med student. I am currently in the middle of applying to medical school. Watching you struggle and overcome each week gives me confidence for both of us. Hang in there! One step at a time!
hi vivien! i’m a new subscriber and i just wanna say you’re not alone with how you felt overwhelmed and depressed in this vlog, and i’m glad you’re feeling better and i hope you keep taking care of yourself. also i love your videos and the chill vibe they have and i can’t wait to see your channel continue growing :)
You are incredible! Thank you for continuing to show us all of your experiences- the good, the bad, AND the ugly. Please, please, take care of yourself. 🧡
Queen! I'm so glad I came across your channel a couple of weeks ago, you are so real and seem like such a dope person. Remember that this experience is still SO new and novel. I'm not a med student (yet) but am doing postgraduate studies and can defintely relate to what you're feeling. It's going to take some time to find your rhythm - whether that's a week, a month or a whole ass year. You got this girl 🤍
love your energy man .. thank u for this comment. def resonated with me. grateful for the energy, sentiment and support. gonna get this tatted on my forehead
I recently subscribed and I love your channel already! I am starting year 2 of med school this October so it's interesting to see how you get on with your first year 😊 I also find it really motivating to see other people (especially other med students) study. Also, I hope you know you are not alone when it comes to feeling depressed being scared of failing or being disappointed with your exam results even when you pass. During my first year I shared the exact same feelings. I was quite depressed and also I was trying to balance school and starting therapy which was actually way harder than I thought. I hope you will feel better and get used to the intensity of med school. Finishing up this really long comment I would also like to applaud you for reaching out for help, especially early on when you start getting those feelings. I feel like we are expected to be amazing at everything, look a certain way, eat healthy, work out and not complain or struggle with our mental health. It's crazy and scary so I love that you reached out and know that it is also okay to reach out to a therapist if you feel the need to 💕
thank you so much!! this is so validating and i appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences as well. aint no shame in the therapy game either - i think anyone can benefit from it :) best of luck with the rest of ur med school journey and thank u again for the kind words
Thank you for being so honest about your true feelings. It is very important to take care of your wellness. Keep up the good work. 💖 Best of luck this school year. You GOT THIS!!! 💖
TH-cam recommended your channel and I been watching ever since. Although I am not in med school, I am enjoying your channel! Its interesting to watch your story! You WILL be a doctor girlie!!
Hi Vivien, have you thought of having a stand for your laptop? It helps keep the screen at eye level and I found it very helpful when I went to school full time from home due to the pandemmy
I teared up a few times watching this. I'm in nursing school and I know thats not nearly as hard as med school but I also haven't been feeling like myself so I can relate to this. I know its all only temporary and will all pay off. Sometimes hormones are working against us, I like to blame those sometimes for my funks..lol. It will get better 💗😊
hi bb i just want to say thank you so much for being so real. I was really depressed my first two weeks as well and just constantly crying. Its a hard transition and when I sought help idk why the best thing I was told was "it's supposed to be hard." idk why that helped me LOL but just simply remembering that and that literally everyone else on the planet starting med school is also going through this struggle, made me feel so reassured and validated. and just able to give myself credit more for going through this. like... we're doing it. and we're gonna be okay. and we have each other.♥
That bug would've gotten smushed! I'm sorry lol I feel depressed at times too, so i definitely can relate. I hope you're out of that funk and feeling better. It's nice to see ya smile 😊
I know this may be counterintuitive to some people, but a great way to start your day is by a daily devotional in the Bible app. They have Bible plans that literally will help you start you day on the right foot. Just trust me, give it a try! Keep going!!!
Hi! I'm from the Philippines and can i just say that I do really enjoy watching your vlogs and I love how u show ur real feelingss♥️ Goodluck on your journey!!
I just have a question, how are you supposed to go to med school and work any type of job if your at school for 12 hour a day? 🙁🙁 I want to go to med school.. I work a full time job and go to college and I have to always work a full time job even while in school because I have my own apartment I pay for and other expenses, so I was just curious on how do students survive financially?
Suggest finding someone to teach you how to reach true calmness and relaxation. Stressed people typically don't know what this state is, but it's the happy place where the body should be all the time with brief periods of acute stress. The problem is you're holding onto your stress like almost everyone else does. So, you have to learn to break this bad habit. In the correct state, the body will fall asleep quickly and wake up rested and refreshed whether it receives one, three, eight, or more hours of sleep. In med school, you're surrounded by others who have equal skills to you. There isn't the wide range like in undergrad or even grad school. You have to mentally accept it. IMO these places should be encouraging teamwork and networking rather than competition.
Hi! I really love your videos as I am a nursing student myself. Just wanted to make a little suggestion.. when editing would it be possibly to do so many cuts. I’d love to feel like I’m In the moment and I think cutting less would really elevate your videos
Sis! I need you to recognized where you are at: medical school. Doing your thang and popping your med shit out here. It is frequent you will feel hopeless or discouraged during the process. Allow those moments to indicate you are getting close to the prize. Your future patients will benefit from this experience as you'll share ways to manifest during character building periods in life. Now I want you to place your hand over your heart, as the heartbeat you feel is of a medical student. YOU did that! Many have attempted and have not arrived to where you are at. Please take care and go easy on yourself, your future patients are depending on you to pull through.
