Despite the shoe's size, the New Balance More Trail v3 are pretty damn smooth - especially with the big ol' Vibram lugs. But they're not without their quirks. What are YOUR thoughts?

Nice, Ethan! Loved v2, but have the Trabuco Max2 (already) - so... is this more stable? More exciting? How many trail ThunderChonks does one runner need? Great review...

    • @TheGingerRunner
      @TheGingerRunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ericperramond3463”thunderchonks” hahaha! I’d say the trabuco 2 is a denser midsole for sure, probably way more durable in the long run. These are certainly softer and a bit more “forgiving”.

Tried them today for the first time on an easy trail/road run and these things are just crazy comfortable. They feel stable on trail and waaaay faster on the road than I expected. Instant fan. Have them in black/cayenne and they look sick.

This shoe was a massive positive surprise for me. No build issues experienced yet and the noise for me isn’t as bad as described 🤷🏻‍♂️. Seriously comfortable and way more stable than I expected for such a wide platform

I've run 2 50k ultra's in these this summer and I can say i absolutely LOVE them! so much in fact I just purchased my 2nd pair. 1st pair are fine, just a bit run out, and even then no rips or tears anywhere in them at all. So they are now my walking around shoes. 10 out of 10 on these.

Running a 110 miler in these suckers (the orange colored variant) in a few weeks. They've been a joy to run in.
I can vouch for the squeaking. They make a hella lot of noise. But they're still the best shoes I've run in all year.
Interestingly, the Fresh Foam X in these shoes 'feels' softer than the road version (which I also own).

Like you missed is it is very breathable in the toebox I find.

Bought the moon gray ones online at NB. Very comfy toe box while having good lockdown. Thick tongue really let’s you ratchet it down. I get an amazing pop out of these. What I was hoping Zegama would be these are (still like Zegamas). Great responsiveness for that 9ish pace mile on tired legs where your cadence is high but your not stepping into your stride much. Midsole is a little chewed up on outside from rocky CO Springs but purely aesthetic. 90 miles in and still loving midsole. Not my first choice for technical runs but I’d sacrifice a little risk for the comfort these provide in an ultra.

Have you tried more trail v2? Lots of stack height and cushioning too, but the foam isn't soft at all. They're not flattening over time and they are stable right out of the box. And since the foam is hard (and bouncy), there is also quite a lot of dynamics in them which makes them fun to run in.

I'm 75kg, train in the Spanish mountains and the foam feels to have done its job right around 300km just like an old dish sponge you refuse to throw out even if the new one is right under the sink. My feet are now sinking in the foam so deep that I can feel rocks and it feels like completely different shoes when I took it out for the first runs. And don't expect it to be responsive, it's just soft and that is the purpose of this shoe. No Mafate Speed 4 responsiviness. It's too soft and plush so that would be okay for such a huge foam to wear out. Now I will use it as another daily grocery pick-up shoe because the upper still looks super fresh. And Vibram outsole. Do we really need to talk about it?! As always performing great and I'm enjoying deep lugs on such a wide shoe because then you won't feel like a duck on the ice when you go over deep mud.
And yes, the noise is there, especially on the road. I have a 3km very steep road downhill as a last section from trails to my Village, just like you would have in some European races, finishing in the city and the feeling is like those lugs could just break off. I feel such an emotional pain running downhill with these shoes, it genuinely feels like I'm hurting them.
Either way, I liked this shoe while it lasted but the foam and durability reminded me of Ultra Glide V1 where the foam, was so soft, that it wore out too quickly, being a single-layer foam. Salomon says that the V2 has the same foam and maybe it's but it's much denser and now I don't like it. They listened but it's not the same shoe anymore. I ran 150km in them and they sit on the shelf like other denser Salomon shoes. V1 all day long even if it isn't that durable.

Really loved these shoes for long runs on easy trails! But around 300K the midsole kinda lost it's magic for me (75kg). And now, after 450k, the outsole is getting loose from the midsole. Was hoping to get a lot more miles out of these....

Shoe definitely seems interesting. I’ve been looking for a more comfortable and cushioned, but still stable and grippy trail shoe for longer efforts for a while. Exposed EVA seems like a durability concern over more technical terrain too. How’s it holding up for you? Might give this one a try, but also waiting on that Rift review 😉

Noisy? Are you serious? I have about 300 k on mine, always start at my house (road -> trail) so use them on all surfaces and never "heard" them.
And doubts about durability? Mine look and feel like new (ok, some dirt on them ... they are trail shoes, right?), I'd estimate I'll run way more than 1000 k with them.

Tried these, boyfriend tried these - they are not for technical terrain. The stack is too high in rocky, rooty terrain. The foam is also too firm for technical terrain - I'm not a huge Speedgoat fan but at least the Speedgoat foam will conform a bit better in technical terrain rather than make you roll an ankle if you don't land perfectly/exactly right.
Sadly the v1 of the More Trail were great for me. They were far more nimble and worked well for technical stuff. v2 and 3 IMO is only good for smooth trails or truck trails.

I have a complaint for ALL shoe companies: STOP making shoes that last only 500 miles, UNLESS you are willing to pay for shipping so that people can send the damn things back after they've pooped out so you can recycle the shoe materials. This is such a freaking waste making a shoe that lasts such a short period of time, especially for the prices.

The outsole is terrible in the wet. Even a mild layer of moisture on harder trails or urban surfaces, makes the sole very slippery. That lug design is poor and it is not grippy.
