How To Use Melodic Patterns to Play and Practice Scales
I played clarinet for 5 years and just switched to tuba for concert season
In my band I might swap from percussion to tuba since there’s a billion percussion and zero tubas and wanted to learn how to play so thanks!
Thank you so much for this resource. It is very much appreciated !
Thank you I needed this I was changing from baritone to tuba
Wow! I decided to look at schedules to see what band matched with your sheets and it turned out to be LCD Soundsystem! One of my absolute favorite bands ever (:
ngl since the trumpet and tuba have the same fingerings (transposition is a blessing) ima change to tuba👍
What’s a good price for a cheaper tuba? As a bassist, I really want to try tuba, but I can’t for school. I’m thinking about buying one to just play at home, but they’re so expensive!! I see some ranging from $5,000-10,000
hey i know this was posted 3 years ago but i have a hard time pressing down on the frets of my upright do you have any suggestions? maybe adjusting the action?
From a trumpet player switching to Tuba/Sousaphone player to be with the section more my size in highschool this helped
great to see someone begin from the beginning, i played cello for 2 years, which makes me grasp this more quick. I better started c. bass. so much music styles.
Glad you enjoyed it
As a new tuba player this helped out a lot
How do you bend a string on the upright
Whoch Minor scale is it ? Natural or harmonic ?
Natural minor
onions, beans and tight pants😂
switching to sousaphone from bass clarinet.... i'm exciteddd
Playing Bari sax learning tuba cause Bari isn't low enough

Great video. I have been playing guitar (for 45 years), and I tried to learn trumpet about 20 years ago without any result. Recently my wife (an antiques dealer) found me a vintage natural horn and a rare buicine, and I started messing around with them, and I am watching brasses' tutorials just to get a feel on the whole thing. Your video is one of the best. You seem to be a great teacher.
Thank you for sharing. I am looking to pitch this position to my boss because it seems very interesting. I did have a couple questions: 1. When do you start advancing a show? A week out, month out? 2. Could you updated the example rider template you have in your description box (it says access denied)? 3. Do you typically have a point person who assist with visa’s? Or do you just go to that country’s website to find all the info and submit yourself? 4. If you put specific items on a rider and the venue does not have it- do you get money back or is this typical and you let it go?
Hi! Yes, these are good questions. All of these answers depend on the size of the band and the budget. 1. The technical part of the show starts to be advanced a few months out. Stage needs, light needs and audio needs are all discussed first. The hospo advance will start 1-2 months out. 2. Yes, I will need to remake this 3. When working with international festivals, they will help guide you through the requirements for that countries VISAs, as well as your booking agent who booked the show. There are also companies who can assist with this if you are booking the bands yourself. 4. You wouldn’t get money back on your rider. It is the venues job to provide the items outlined unless those items are not available in that state/country or really can not be found. I always have substitutions on deck for any items they can’t find, and if it’s a very specific brand/need that the band wants I will travel with backups. Not worth it to argue with the venue over $50 worth of snacks when there are bigger costs being negotiated.
I never knew any thing about upright bass family only to normal bass
are your company a music school
Enjoying your videos! Always wondered what happens behind the scenes. While the amount of tasks/list of items you have on your plate is enormous, it’s helps when u work with professionals/adults who can possess some degree of maturity and d responsibility, although they may not always be possible. 👍
These are the best, love these video podcast! Thank You for sharing these.
I’m getting a tuba today
Bravo, Parts 1-4 are excellent, hope if you have ever rolled on our Pioneer buses, that your experience was safe, smooth and to your liking. Keep these shares and videos coming.
Thank you!
Patrick & Friends Music Co, Y'all ROCK, Andrea these videos are excellent, sharing them with our drivers and employees too!

Excellent share, Than You, would love to see more of these on the Industry.
From a frenck horn being moved to tuba this is amazing and has helped me a lot ♥️

Thanks!
playing to hard the strings hits the fingerboard
chord book is showing a barr chord
Yes, you can also do the chord as a barre chord
🎉
Love it!!!❤❤❤❤🤩🥳🫠
Good lesson 😁🎉❤
So you basically work 24 hours a day. Yikes
Yes it’s hard work
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR NICE VIDEO. VERY EDUCATIONAL AS I INTERN WORK WITH A WELL -RENOWNED MUSICIAN ❤
I have a professional, singer songwriter. She’s a good talent, but she can’t get along with her road manager. She’s too restrictive for her I wanna take my dog and she’s too prudish when she makes a joke about something she says Australia I’ve had to talk to my friend that is really making a big music. Do you guys live tour? She wants a little bit of freedom group managers are terrible. I don’t think they understand artists.
I have never watched a video of a tuba lesson in English. this video has helped me a lot.
Do you wanna play the tuba~~~
Great series! Im working with a small band right now. Question tho, how could I get in touch with her? I’d love to ask her some questions and kind of just pick her brain. Maybe even get all those spreadsheets she has talked about. Is there an email or social media I could find her at? Thank you!
Thank you so much for explaining all that so simply especially with the diagrams. I barely joined the IATSE and am studying mixing sound for live events and am also now super interested in learning the stage manager role just bc of how awesome that is! I'll let you know how it goes and if you missed anything :)
Very helpful . Thank you 😊 ❤
Glad it was helpful!
For a true beginner, this is a great first video for me. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve loved all of the Touring Management 101 videos with Andrea and it’s given me so much insight to the touring world! It’s also made me even more interested in pursuing a career in this industry; I just need to figure out how to get involved in it in the smaller town I’m in.
Glad you enjoyed the videos
Nat Macintosh would approve
This was great, thanks for sharing these lessons. My friend and I just went through lesson one and two on the upright in his living room. Plenty there to practice one. One question, is that little outro riff you played at the end have a name? I 've heard it before, and would love to practice it. Thanks!
Thank you! That is not a specific song but is used a lot in jazz to end a song.
Russ is playing Tuba, nice!
It may go without saying, but one thing I have learned over the years is your own comfort/health/well-being, since the job demands A LOT of energy and demands A LOT from you ... physically and emotionally. It's very important that you 1) wear comfortable shoes and attire, 2) Eat properly (what you eat is just as important as WHEN and HOW). Eat right, at the right times, focus on eating, try and eat calmly, and at a reasonable time. It may seem almost impossible, but it can be done. I avoid soft drinks, energy drinks, etc., although they may be tempting. 3) Manage your emotions. Know how to be assertive with everyone (band, crew, venue, guests, etc.). Show that you know what you're doing, be stern, treat everyone with respect, so you get that back. 4) This is a VERY tough one: try and rest and avoid sleeping aids. If you can learn how to meditate, all the better. 5) As Andrea has mentioned, being organized is ABSOLUTELY key. There is NO other way. 6) Be thankful with your temp staff (runners, hotel staff, venue staff, etc.) Those people that don't travel, but certainly help when you ride through town. I like to email them after we leave, it's something that goes a long way. 7) Keep a very neat directory of local vendors and suppliers in each city. Everything from taxi drivers to local pizza places and hotel reception staff. 6) Be open to share your resources with other colleagues. I'm sure I am leaving a lot of things out, but you get the idea: Be as healthy as you can.
You mentioned working in larger teams in ep1; does that mean that there's multiple Prod. Coordinators sometimes? Being able to trade-off either shifts/duties or a full day followed by a free one where someone else takes over seems like it would make for better health management, especially since your position is so integral to the efficiency of a show. Idk, but working multiple 20+ hr days in a row sounds like a good recipe for burnout.
It can definitely be a burnout. You really have to love the job. Larger shows have more help in them, but they are also larger productions so the work is still very intense
How to crank?
