Here you go. Save all you fellas the time googling the differences. Silver top is easily identified by the vac pump on the alternator. These are the original forklift motor and are built strong. They will handle big boost and easily see 500,000ks. Around 93-95 they started phasing in the black top these were redesigned for automotive use. They lightened the piston crowns to help with higher rpms, they also use slightly different rockers and have larger cam followers. The vac pump on these is on the timing case. They also have 30mm gudgeons as opposed to the 28mm in the silver top which makes them easier to rebuild to turbo spec as the rods don't need changing. The turbo black top is the strongest of all. They have the 30mm gudgeons but have a stronger piston. They also have longer oil squirters which go into a gallery in the piston crown. They also have a larger oil pump. They have larger diameter front and rear main sections on the crank and a different hole pattern on the flywheel. In the head they have different precoms. They all have different cams Ti has a different cam gear, different tacho sensor and the timing case is different to suit the sensor. They’ve also got egr.
KBSR Films do you have any idea how much googling you saved? I’ve been trying to figure out if my GU is a factory turbo (I believe it is) but I can’t decode the VIN
KBSR Films it’s a 99 Y61, the build plate says “TD42” not “TD42T” but I heard that was something Nissan changed later. Engine number ends with T and everything looks real factory. Cast intake pipe across the engine to turbo, compensated pump
@@MrHowdi you'll be able to tell were you get your oil feed from and were your oil return goes. Factory turbo get it's oil feed from the block and oil return goes back into the block N/A will either get the feed off the back of the alternator or next to the engine mount and the oil return will go back into the sump
Was always told transfer cases in patrols needed ATF fluid to run effectively or otherwise they wore out real quick ... just brought myself an now building a GU patrol ute with A TD42Ti as a heart... makes 20Psi with the stock turbo an a boost tee inline ... with a 11mm boost comp pump fully rebuilt..

So there was definitely a week stage for black tops. But soon as the factory turbo option come out this was the revised black top version.

Yep agree I also use ATF dex 3 in my transfer. You can also put a bit in the gearbox if it has worn synchro’s will help with the grinding.

With this whole 12mm pump thing, you can have pumps built for different power levels, not all 12mm pump are built for 300hp out the door...

Is it best to drop the gearbox oil n transfer case oil once it’s warm or better to do it cold?
