Anna Murphy was good with Eluveitie, but I'm happy she left and formed her own band, Cellar Darling. Now I actually like Cellar Darling more than I've ever liked Eluveitie. Their album last year, The Spell, might have been my favorite album of the year if Tool didn't release Fear Innoculum. If you want to check them out, "Death" is probably the first song I'd go with.

Loved it! I cannot wait for more Eluveitie! I gotta give a recommendation for 2 tracks off of their Helvetios album. The very first track (Prologue) and the second track (Helvetios). The prologue sets up the whole album (it's a concept album about the Gallic wars from the perspective of the the Helvetians), so it's really good to do the first two tracks as a single reaction. It just sets everything up so very nicely. And Helvetios is on the heavier side. Still has an awesome rhythm though. I think you'd love it from an instrumentation standpoint. Anyways, great reaction! Keep them coming!
So it was Anna, Merlin (drummer), and the Guitarist that left the band and started a Prog Metal band called Cellar Darling that has a very Pink Floyd feel to it. Rebirth was the first song after the separation of the band. I believe this was the last music video the 3 did with the band. If I remember also this was the first album with that violin player.
Fantastic as always. This is one of the first songs I ever heard from Eluveitie, and you're 100% correct (of course you are): The chorus is catchy as hell. Another one of their tracks which I REALLY like is Epona. It features Fabienne (their newer female singer) and is sung in the nearly extinct Gaulish language. Super awesome.. If you're in need of a bit of levity, and let's face it, who isn't these days? There's a video which kept popping up in my feed which I kept ignoring it because I'm not a huge fan of DragonForce, but it was "DragonForce attempts to write a Nightwish song in 10 minutes". It's amazing, and it was awesome to see Floor make an appearance in the comments section too :) I'm a huge Nightwish fan, and I know your are quickly becoming one too. No need to do a reaction video for it, but if you have a spare 15 mins one day it's well worth checking out for a laugh.
A Rose for Epona, King and Quoth the Raven are also good. My friend introduced me to eluveitie way back 2015 and The Call of the Mountains is one of my favorites from this band. Anna Murphy is just fantastic specially with her hurdy-gurdy. Great reaction as always.
This song is awesome. They actually made a French version of that song called "L'Appel des Montagnes" which is the perfect translation of the English title. And actually they played the French version on a gig just after the terrorist attack in the Bataclan in Paris in November 2015, as a beautiful tribute. A good friend of mine was at this show, that I believe was in Glasgow, and he told me that the emotion was so deep, everybody cried in the audience and even the band. And actually I heard it, you can feel the emotion, it made me cry. Now everytime I listen to this song I think of that.
I've listened to this song literally hundreds of times and you still managed to point out multiple things I've never noticed before. Really changes the way I hear things after watching your videos and makes me appreciate the music more. Pause whenever you want man I'm here to hear what you have to say or else I'd just go listen to the song by itself. Recommending anything from Amaranthe
Glad you reacted to this song. So lovely. It almost has a church psalm feeling about it, though that's not the theme behind it. I was on an Eluveite kick today, been listening to the Evocation albums. Super cool this reaction lined up.
Yes that is a very iconic song of theirs and they did it in multiple languages XD The chorus makes me smile a lot too =) The Alps are, though im very biased here, among the top 5 most gorgeous mountains on the planet. I actually hheard them play live with this singer at a small (200 people aproximately) show called "A Night with Eluveitie". It was phenomenal! It was 2 hours long. There were like 9 mucisians on stage lol. 1st hour was all acoustic and very folky. The 2nd hour was more metal. It's one of my best memories. And they played this song and all of us in the crowd participated.
@@ChaseCarneson It was. It's also basically the only concert of a big band I've been to in all my adult and teen years. That makes me a bit sad. I want to go to more concerts. Hopefully Nightwish next.
The whistle is a "low whistle", like the irish tin whistle only in a lower tone. The bagpipe is a spanish "gaita calega", sounds very similar to the Great Highland Pipe but not as sharp and crisp more smooth like a northumbrian or border pipe.
Thanks for another great reaction Chase. I just posted this comment/request on another video of yours but it fits better here: I’d love to hear what you think about Cellar Darling - they are formed by a few former members of Eluveitie including Anna Murphy. They are a folk/prog metal band. My favorites are “Insomnia” and “Death” which are from their latest album. Their live sessions of those songs are great but I really think the studio version is best for a first listen because it’s properly balanced/mixed - which has a huge effect on the general feeling of these songs.
Love me some folk metal. After the last one I was kinda meh going into this, but this is really good. The key change towards the end really gave the song new life when it was starting to get a little tired.
Hi there! If you want to here well their violin, I recommend you "King". It has a damn crazy violin solo perfectly placed and accompained with the tin whistle... Another great song from Eluveitie. Cheers!
Chase, I’m excited as this is one of my favorite songs. But looking back through your roster, I haven’t seen a song by Amaranthe yet. You’re really missing out Elize is a mainstay and does performances with Kamelot and even did some Nightwish with the turmoil between Annette and Nightwish. Seriously Chase. Check out Amaranthe Dynamite is my recommendation, but they released a song called Archangel “I think” just earlier today that is well worth checking out. Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed.
The violin is interesting. It might just be a really dark stained wood, or some other composite material, but there are a few outfits making classical string instruments out of carbon fiber. I always wanted to play one just to see how it sounds. I think from the shape of the scroll she's playing a Luis and Clark carbon fiber violin.
Such an awesome band! Seen this version of Eluveitie as well as the current version of Eluveitie. Was supposed to see them again in 3 days but COVID 19 messed that up. :( Such a Great live band! If you ever get the chance to see them live, don't miss it. Hoping someday that Cellar Darling comes to my area as well. (Anna's new band) If you want more a aggressive song, react to Eluveitie's song King. 😁
Loves Eluveitie! Here's some more for your reaction list: * A rose for Epona (more rock-ish, with Anna) * Ategnatos (Epic!), with Fabienne and Chrigel) * King (Only Chrigels harsh vocals, extremely powerful with a great violine solo) * Sleepwalker (Fabienne and Chrigel) * Ambiramus (A happy one. Would fit for Eurovision)
Just for fun look at "SCHANDMAUL - Der Teufel 2.4 (Internationale Version 2015)". Just a drinking song from a german band. What makes it interesting is that they invited bands and communities to add to it regardless of music genre or language (hence V2.4... it grew).
I also love the song A Rose For Epona by Eluveitie. And you are introduced to many instruments you say. But have you heard Anna play the Hurdy Gurdy yet? If not, you should definitely check out her band Cellar Darling. Avalanche is a good song, or Black Moon.
Was so sad when Anna, Merlin and Ivo left the band. I was on 2 of their shows with that lineup and it really was amazing. Chrigel is the best on stage. I don't really like their current direction though and their new lineup. As far as the songs go I'd recommend Inis Mona (A MUST), King, Slania's song, Dessumiis luge (for some awesome Anna's vocals), Kingdom Come Undone and my personal favourite Alesia. If you gonna do Alesia, google the historic event, that this song is based on, it will make much more sense.
Another great reaction video, Chase. It´s best song from Eluveitie. Great Masterpiece from this band. I think Eluveitie is Folk Metal. I´m not sure. Chase, you´re doing great again. Really I love your reaction videos. You´re an incredible man. Please, keep up the great work. Rock On and Horns Up :-).
Eluveitie is one of my favorite band, my 3 favorite songs is "Slania Song", "Quote the Raven" and "Alesia". Anna Murphy have a really great voice and she have her own band now "Cellar Darling" you'll probably like it too.
Yes. I wonder if that is intentional and if they credit Within Temptation, or it is just coincidence (which I doubt because 'Shot in the Dark' chorus sounds too much like their intro)
How have I never heard this? It's frikkin' awesome! 🎼🎶 I so wish there had been a band (or even a scene I could have formed a band within) like this for me when I was a youngster and could still play the violin (arthritis cured me of that). Heck, I could even have brought some bass vocal accompaniment to a mix like that! (where is a bass clef symbol when you need one) Jumped onto Spotify to give them a follow!
In case you didn't know, they did a swiss german language version of this song as well. Just if you are curious how that might sound, give it a try. You won't regret it. It's awesome!
Two things: 1. Could you consider going back to live Nightwish reactions: I will love "Last Ride of the Day" form Wacken 2013 with Floor (and Marco!) 2. Did you know that if I search for "Chase Cameron" I got back only clips from the Dr. House series? haha.
You should check out Alesia, luxtos, a rose for epona, Ategnatos, ambiramos, thousandfold, meet the enemy, Helvetios and Inis mona! They are all superb examples of the range of Eluveitie
Ah you´ve been doing (so clever-charmingly :-) ) also this ageless, really emotional classic piece (and video) of the genre And I see enjoyed it a Lot just like I´ve been already long time + coming so to listen & watch it at U2B again and again when That feeling hits, ha! :Thanks4This2: :YouHaveAGreatTasteOfQualityMusic:

If you want to go down the Anna Murphy rabbit hole, when she left Eluveitie, a couple other members left with her and are in another band called Cellar Darling. Black Moon and Avalanche are good songs to check out.
Great reaction mr. Chase! :) Enjoyed that a lot, thank you. Requested it on the last Eluveitie video and I'll request it again because I adore it; would love for you to check out A Rose for Epona by them. Cheers and keep up the great work!
Please, Chase, could you react to this: CELLAR DARLING - 'Death' Live at TH-cam Space London (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) next? This is the band the singer Anna Murphy founded with a few other guys from Eluveitie. It is a different type of metal as you will find.
This song is a favorite of mine... as long as Anna is signing it. Fabi (the current singer) is fabulous, but her voice and style are just so different that neither this song nor "Rose for Epona" work for me when she sings them. This is very much an "ANNA" song.
Chase, please angle your "have a damn good day" sign a bit to the side to avoid the light reflection hiding the "day". Thanks for another damn good reaction!
If you're liking hearing the different directions Eluveitie takes their music in, I'd highly recommend checking out "Epona", "Lvgvs" or really anything off of the Evocation I or Evocation II albums. As much as I want to recommend just about every song in their discography, I tend to think of Eluveitie as making 3 distinct types of songs. You've heard the heavier stuff (Rebirth) and the more female-fronted side of things (this one), but they also have a third, more acoustic folk-rock type of sound. But frankly, anything this band does won't steer you wrong - even the "B-sides" of their albums are fantastic.
Eluveitie definitely excel at creating powerful moods/energies/feels with their own unique twists in different songs, but with a very cohesive and beautiful theme running through them. I’d recomend Ambiramus or Epona next
about the imperfection, i could call it individual texture, and yea it's nice to hear the musician through the music, while not disturbing it but beeing part of the sound, it's more personal, kind of
If you like the celtic influences, and want try something not so metal, then a truly unique band is Afro Celt Sound System, their blend of instruments and cultures is breath taking - try searching for "Cascade - Afro Celt Sound System" for a live performance.
I saw in them in London supporting Epica a few years ago, and just to make if a bit different Anna sung this in Swiss-German, as every one knew the English version. Next, perhaps one of hurdy-gurdy )

(Anna's new band)
If you want more a aggressive song, react to Eluveitie's song King. 😁
Loves Eluveitie!
Here's some more for your reaction list:
* A rose for Epona (more rock-ish, with Anna)
* Ategnatos (Epic!), with Fabienne and Chrigel)
* King (Only Chrigels harsh vocals, extremely powerful with a great violine solo)
* Sleepwalker (Fabienne and Chrigel)
* Ambiramus (A happy one. Would fit for Eurovision)
This one and King are my two favorite Eluveitie songs. Keep the pauses coming.
Eluveitie definitely has two sides to their music. Both done excellent.
love your reactions, thanks. it's indeed a children choir at the end, and i think they are singing in gaulish.
My absolute favorite song by them!
This song was great. I think I had heard it before but somehow forgot about it. Adding to playlist now.
The additional layer of Anna's vocals you heard in the chorus is brought to the front in the non-English and live versions of the song.
Inis Mona is a great song from them. Quite an oldie though 👍
Waited for this!
I just realized that this has very similar riffs and progressions to "Shot in the Dark" by Within Temptation. Hadn't noticed that before.
Yes. I wonder if that is intentional and if they credit Within Temptation, or it is just coincidence (which I doubt because 'Shot in the Dark' chorus sounds too much like their intro)
How have I never heard this?
It's frikkin' awesome! 🎼🎶
I so wish there had been a band (or even a scene I could have formed a band within) like this for me when I was a youngster and could still play the violin (arthritis cured me of that).
Heck, I could even have brought some bass vocal accompaniment to a mix like that! (where is a bass clef symbol when you need one)
Jumped onto Spotify to give them a follow!
In case you didn't know, they did a swiss german language version of this song as well. Just if you are curious how that might sound, give it a try. You won't regret it. It's awesome!
Innis Mona, King, Thousandfold, Dance of Victory!
Anna Murphy is fantastic as is this band. Folk-metal at it's best.
I also like Arkona for Eastern European folkish elements
Two things:
1. Could you consider going back to live Nightwish reactions: I will love "Last Ride of the Day" form Wacken 2013 with Floor (and Marco!)
Forget the cowbell,- EVERYTHING needs more Hurdy Gurdy!
Please reaction to Cellar Darling "Insomnia". You won't be disapointed. Its Anna's best vocals, IMO. An absolute masterpeice.
📲⛰️!!!!! Fiddle, harp, mandola, hurdy-gurdy, flute, bodhran..... great instruments!...... "I'm in a metal band".. "Cool! What do you play?".... "Flute".......!!!!?..............Please look at Victoria K, she performed with Eluvietie in Australia (she's a bit like Anna).... Any Naio Ssaion on your list? They are a Slovenian band like "Lullacry" or "Evanescence" with violin!
Magical
If you want to go down the Anna Murphy rabbit hole, when she left Eluveitie, a couple other members left with her and are in another band called Cellar Darling. Black Moon and Avalanche are good songs to check out.
Where Owls Know My Name by Rivers of Nihil for some more non traditional instruments in metal 😏👍🤘
YES please!
I've never heard the english version its different but also good!
There is alot of good live from that preformance. My own favorite is CELLAR DARLING - 'Insomnia' Live at TH-cam Space London (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
@@TheJakobdk I know - it is really good. I just really like the sound of the flute in this song.
9:58 yeah I don't blame you, that's Anna Murphy for you :D
That's a children's choir at the end.
Not every band is brave enough to work with a children´s choir
Do you perhaps know where to find the choir part translation? I couldn't find it on any lyrics site and I would love to know what they're singing!
You should look up Inis Mona from the same band :)
Eluveitie definitely excel at creating powerful moods/energies/feels with their own unique twists in different songs, but with a very cohesive and beautiful theme running through them.
I’d recomend Ambiramus or Epona next
Love Eluveitie. Check out King by them, on the heavier side.
about the imperfection, i could call it individual texture, and yea it's nice to hear the musician through the music, while not disturbing it but beeing part of the sound, it's more personal, kind of
It is Burke tin whistle made in the US base on its mouthpiece
RoadRunner United - In the Fire . One of the best solos
Dear Chase, you must check "Ne Obliviscaris -- Forget Not". if you never heard it. Amazing song, with lot of things to say. You won't regret.
Guys we need to get chase to react to Tallah!!! the amazement on his face would be incredible 😄 whos with me? the vocal video of overconfidence was INCREDIBLE
Anna was also the original Gurdy player
Great reaction once again always great music. For something out of left field I think you should have a listen to some of the tracks by Windrose or Gloryhammer
