    Watching your facial expressions during The Rain Songs exemplifies a true understanding of what Jimmy, Jonesy, Bonzo and Plant were trying to achieve. You not only felt it, but you get it in your heart. Few bands have that ability. Led Zeppelin just happens to be the best at it. It so warms my heart seeing a younger generation show so much respect for the best rock band of all time.

    Verdy, look up info on Robert Plant's son Karac dying at age 5, in 1977 I think, while Zeppelin was on tour in the U.S. and it's impact on him and his relationship to the band, & life in general ...... & maybe review some of those songs he wrote in the aftermath -- these are the ones I found online:
    “All My Love” - Led Zeppelin’s 1979 album “In Through The Out Door”;
    “Blue Train” from Page & Plant’s 1998 album “Walking Into Clarksdale”;
    “I Believe” from Plant's 1993 solo album “Fate Of Nations”

    The string instrument used in "Rain Song" was the mellotron. It was played by John Paul Jones who played the piano as well as the bass and is usually the forgotten/underrated member of the group. Every time I hear this song it hits like the first time I heard it. Truly beautiful. I can't wait for side 2, you'll love it.

You get it! More than that, for such a young lady you have a very good knowledge and appreciation of a lot of different music. You are not fake like sooo many. Well done young lady. Don't limit yourself, enjoy any GOOD music, that moves you. I can bet you listen to and enjoy classical, as well as classic music. Have fun on your musical rollercoaster, it will carry you through the hard times of life. What a magnificent young lady you are. "The Crunge" is totally an homage to James Brown. Robert Plant doing his best James singing style and even the mention of "finding the bridge" at the end which was a phrase James used to end many of his songs.

  • @dynjarren7523

    With this album it’s like they matured and expanded their sound and delivered one of their best albums. They always included dynamics in their songs. Fast and slow and loud and quiet parts.
    The classic example is Stairway but there are many other songs that have soft and hard passages. And Plants voice is unique here. He just lets it all hang out. The result is an incredible collection of Zep songs.

  • @campion10

    I want you to know that I think you are the best you tube music reactor I’ve seen. You’re obviously naturally musical and your reactions are so real and pure it’s fun to watch.
    Now that you’ve come this far with zep you need to watch the movie “the song remains the same.” It’s a Madison square garden show from 1973 and it’s great. When I was a kid in the 80s a local theater played it every Saturday night. I saw it dozens of times.
    Side note: Robert Plant had throat surgery in 1972 and you can hear that his voice has lost a bit of power. Listen to 8-31-69 from Dallas, TX or any early show to hear why he eventually needed the surgery. Howling.

    Rain song is insane--you keep thinking wow, this just gets more beautiful…and that feeling goes on for the entire song. The ending is maybe one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard in music, and it just caps off 7 minutes (or whatever) of stunning, soaring beauty.
    And then all it does is lead into THAT intro from Over the Hills and Far Away. Sheesh.

    This is one of my favorite songs by them and probably one of the most ambitious musically for them. And yeah the whole part about the bridge at the end but if you've ever played in bands and you're jamming on something really cool you can't quite figure out how to end it or maybe you're playing it live for the first time and you tried five different endings in practice and you thought you sold on one but nobody remembers it, etcetera, laugh. It rings so true. And it's hilarious.
    The whole song is hilarious. He keeps saying that he can't tell you anything tell you anything, and then he proceeds to tell you all about it. And then he reveals that he's talking about his girl but he's not going to tell you one other thing not one other thing except there's one thing you really got to know and and he tells you something else and and he tells you something else. It's absolutely hilarious and it is a loving nod of the hat to James Brown of course.

    I feel quite fortunate I grew up listening to the great rock and roll bands of the late 60's and beyond.
    Rush, Zeppelin, Floyd, Yes, Genesis and others. While I have no doubt they all wanted to be popular and become famous to some degree, these bands were pioneers in their own way.

    Zep went prog on this album and tried out even more different styles than before. The Rain Song, the best and most famous track of the album (and one of their top songs generally), was an answer of Jimmy Page (or Bonzo, depends on the source) to his friend George Harrison as the latter told him, he has a great band, but they can't write a propper ballad. So Jimmy did it. The intro of Rain Song is indeed the chords of Something. The strings are a mellotron. JPJ was a great arranger and producer with orchestra but here like in Kashmir he used a mellotron, made famous by King Crimson on their first album.

    The acoustic guitars in the beginning of "Over the Hills" are one six string and one twelve string guitar and together make a beautiful voice of expression. The first two songs on this side of the album are written like classical music, with movements, repeating themes, and a structure more complex than most other Rock songs.

    Back in the 1970s and 80s, radio stations at times used to play album sides commercial free. Whenever they threw any Led Zeppelin record on it was like a greatest hits. (outside of III)

    Hi Verdy, listen to The Song Remains the Same / Rainsong from the 1973 Madison Square Garden performance. You will love seeing Jimmy doing these songs live.!

    My favorite Zeppelin and I think their best, peak realization of their sound. Find three better song openers in succession than this. Incredible. And I think you’re exactly right; this is a triumph of melding acoustic and electric guitar to perfection, and then building around that.
