I think that's because it had a built in light and the GBC was very hard to use without an external light. I bought another one recently and I had forgotten just how hard it is to see the screen without good light.
@@Tacospaceman pokemons have catch rate. this catch rate is independent to any pokemon and you can look it up on serebii ehat is it for the mon you look at this catch rate can be influenced in battle through conditions, such as the pokemon level, the percentage of missing hp (nowhere nearly as important on lower levels as people tend to think) and the pokemon having status conditions when you throw a ball, the game will pick a random number between 0 and 255 if the number is higher than the pokemon catch rate, the pokemon would break free. if its lower, the pokemon would get caught (this is calculated per shake with some probability increases, which I won't even pretend I understand) the number generated is influenced by the pokeball you throw pokeball, superball, ultraball and masterball are very straightforward- pokeball has a catchrate multiplier of 1, superball 1.5, ultraball 2 and masterball completely skip the catch check this basically means that the catch rate of the pokemon multiplied. if you use pokeball on a Pokemon with 30 catch rate, you'll have to get a number lower than 30 if you use a superball, lower than 45 if you use ultra ball, lower than 60 and masterball would always catch other balls have their catch rate based on conditions, for example heavy ball is based on the pokemon weight, level ball is based on the difference between the wild mon level and yours timer ball is based on the number of turns the battle has been taking, starting at *1 (same as pokeball) and after 10 turns maxing at *4 (double the chance of ultra ball) after only 4 turns, the timer ball has the same catch rate as ultraball, and every turn after that it is better since when you're against low catch rate pokemons, like legendaries, you'd want to chip them down and status them. it is very likely you'd already be past the 4th turn when you throw the ball. so its much more logical to stack on timer balls, which are much cheaper than ultra balls and become much more reliable quickly. and spam them on legendaries
