I visited their stadium Claggan Park under the shadow of Ben Nevis (the largest mountain in Britain). This is Scottish non league football at its finest!

Really good video mate. I just read that Fort William have been relegated to NCL and Banks O Dee promoted in their place. Realistically it'll be a struggle for them to get back to HL football. All the obvious disadvantages that you highlighted, then consider the sort of club now competing with them - Banks have a decent stadium for that level and they play in Aberdeen, with a large population base to sustain their needs. Fort William do well to keep the club alive. Best of luck to them next season.
Having been playing in the lower leagues in Scotland all my life there's not been a better view to play a game especially in good weather
Good luck to the new manager at Fort William, i will follow and support you next season, it is a beautiful part of Scotland. Great again Sam you do such a fine job showing all levels of Scottish football
If you’d like to see highlights from their NCL match against Orkney FC (played in Alness due to logistical challenges!)… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Enjoyed the video . It is very tough @ that level . People behind the scenes working very hard for their clubs . As a non league fan , I wish Fort William well . And hope they can turn it around next season . But what a beautiful location .
Based on this performance they should be fine… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Half of me was following the show, half of me was taking in how beautiful Fort William is.
Please pay attention to the videographer... look at his shiny white gnashers and not excessive vegetation.
He takes a lot of effort to make these videos he doesn't do it so that you can zone out and fall in love with a leaf..GOT IT ?

Fort William thrashed Vale of Leithen in the Scottish Cup a few years ago and so decided the worst team thing. Both have since been relegated to the junior leagues. Fort are doing well, Vale of Leithen are still hopeless

Great to see you've been to Fort William. What a lovely place! Excellent vid.
Great Video again, Sam. Well done showing the difficulties that The Fort have to face.
Incredible scenery! I just love seeing the places you go, Sam!

Thanks so much for watching! Loads more adventures coming soon ⚽️🙂
I spent about 7 yrs running Wellington FCTV who played in the old West Mid Regional League until I left the UK in 2019 ,streaming games live . You can’t beat non league football visiting new different grounds was what I enjoyed the most so love you travelling around the country and showing these grounds and talking to the people who run the clubs for the their love of football and not for money ,the real football fan .
Watching the BBC documentary it looks a lot like the Highland League did their best go get them dropped. Not even a fair chance to fight.
They were shafted, you're right.
Enjoyed this one sam. Great to hear about all of the remote clubs around england and scotland! Congrats on 115k btw :)
If you’d like to see them play… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
When I found out about this club a few months ago, I had to find out more about them - and since then have also taken up the mantle of managing them on Football Manager.
Here’s their latest match… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
A few months ago I went to see what was a home match for Fort William last season against Buckie Thistle, which was played in Buckie. I don't think that having to play all their home matches away last season helped them much. The teams were fairly evenly matched in the first half, and you wouldn't have known the teams were at complete opposite ends of the table, but Buckie completely dominated the second half and won 4-1 in the end. Fort William brought a decent crowd with them, so fair play to their supporters for travelling all that way to support their team.
Unfortunately, their ground, Claggan Park had drainage problems. Because of this, the Highland league establishment made the decision to make them play all their ‘home’ games away 😑
The chairman was spot on when he said its "different" you can swear your head off in a 50k crowd and not be heard but swear at a ground as small as that, everyone hears you plus home and away fans usually stand side by side so it can get heated. Ive been to sunderland matches at stadium of light with 49k there but also love going to watch my local northern league club Thornaby town fc play. Crowd is about 250-300 and the atmosphere is still brilliant just in a different way to massive stadiums. I love how close you are to the pitch you hear ever word players and managers say which you will never hear at a big stadium. The style of football is proper old school a bit like league football from the 70s when you were allowed to beat up i mean tackle opposition players. Every game theres usually a punch up.
You gave me memories when I had time to play Football Manager,my brother saw the challenge and he did a save with them
WE FINALLY MADE IT. After an 8.5 hour journey from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire myself, two brothers and a mate checked in at the local Premier Inn. A FANTASTIC weekend was had by all,the hospitality and banter with the locals was second to none. Unfortunately Fort William lost 2-1 to St.Duthus, whose goalie had an absolute blinder but at least the game was played, weather half-decent and pitch looked to be in fine condition. Looked to me like you really enjoyed your trip to FW, thanks again for this excellent video (I've had to watch it again it was that good). Cheers Bob, Ziggy,Stu (three brothers) and Gaz (50 years a mate)
VERY interesting video mate, I've "studied" the Ft.William results (from a distance, Huddersfield)for over 20 years and sometimes could hardly believe the results. The story I heard years ago was that a lot of the "good sportsmen" of the area prefer to play Shiny, which leaves less talent to draw from. I was gutted when FW didn't compete in the Relegation Play-off,which could have secured their Highland League status. GREAT NEWS on the horizon though,my brother rang me recently "do you want to go to the FW Vs St.Duthus game on 2nd Nov?"...so that's where we're heading in less than 3 weeks. Seriously can't wait. Well done with the video, along with "Fight at the Fort" on BBC iPlayer it's an EPIC piece of film. Thank you
Not Shiny.....that should have read SHINTY (sorry about that)
Great vlog. Went up there a few months ago, it’s a lovely place but didn’t go visit the club as we knew they were forced to play their games away. Maybe next time!
Love this video, I've always looked out for the 'Forts' results. If you're ever at the other end of the country, how about a trip to Fratton Park. We are one of the few grounds that still has an Archibald Leitch stand. The current refurbishment has exposed the Leitch iron work again. Portsmouth is the only league team to play on and Island. Also on Portsea Island, we have United Services Portsmouth, who I'm pretty sure are the only team in the non-league pyramid to play on a Naval base and Baffins Milton Rovers, who play within yards of Langstone Harbour, as well as Moneyfields, whose ground is currently being re-developed in partnership with Portsmouth in the Community.
You can watch highlights of their last match here… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Could you come to Mackessack park in Rothes, they play Hibs in July for pre season?
Really pleased you finally made it to Fort William, definitely rates along side Cathkin Park as one of the most unique football venues in the UK, just so special. And if you did the same route from Glasgow that we did in 2018 (there's only one real option !), I am sure you won't forget that drive in a hurry - incredible scenery and unreal driving conditions (although we did it in March!). The "Harry Potter Viaduct" was a nice bonus too - I hope you took time whilst there to visit the Glendfinnan Monument across the road which marks the site of a big moment in Scottish history, the Jacobite Uprising ... anyway let's get back to football !!
I wouldn't mind being the manager, the location and scenery alone is inspirational to manage a team,if I win the Euro millions I could buy the club and transform them.😃
Still waiting to win euromillions football club will have to wait on my takeover😀
You do such a great job promoting our game Sam :-)
If you ever plan on visiting Turriff FC / Fyvie / Deveronvale area let me know, I have a static caravan a stones throw from Turriff and it's yours for a couple of nights if you need it.
Keep up the good work :-)
That's a wonderful gesture. We used Premier Inn for our accommodation,1st+2nd Nov, and Great Glen and Sammy's Sports Bar as our main "watering holes".
Love it!! Keep doing your videos I may one day visit this site having lived in London and not seeing much of the British Isles.
Exciting times ahead for Fort William! 🙌🏻
th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
They're lucky they never signed me, I could double that - GD. I can score own goals with both feet, head, shoulder, backside, you name it. I'm lethal from 2 yards out, facing the wrong way :)
I have a football fact NFFC ground (the city ground) is actually not in the city it’s in Nottinghamshire county and Notts COUNTY ground is in the city and they both used to play at Trent bridge
Was always one of my favourite away days, staff at the club always treated us well and it's a crackinh journey down!
Thanks for this video, I've been following their results for the last 4 or 5 years from down in England, very informative.
They’re now in the North Caledonian League and doing well… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful video as always. Could I ask what the music was in this video? I loved it..
I went to Fort William last year,
I had just finished walking the West Highland Way, and there was supposed to be a game on. Unfortunately as you correctly stated the Forts had to play all of their games away last year, so I missed out. I’m hoping to try again this September, hopefully they’ll be playing in the Highland league, if not I will still watch them in the North Caledonian league. This time round I will combine the visit with climbing Ben Nevis.
You can see highlights of their “home” match against Orkney FC (in Alness because of the distances involved - and ferry journey for Orkney!)… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Mon the fort glad you made it up mate 👍
Beautiful scenery, and a nice story too despite the bad results.
I too would love to see content from the Irish leagues.
In the 3 professional divisions here in the US, a 3hr drive to get to an away match is considered a local derby. Even our 4th division (semi-Pro / amateur) can have longer drives for some matches.
Have you been to the highlands of Scotland. I have been to many states in the US the comparison you are making makes no sense, it is not a comparison
@@ericlennon Never been outside the east coast of the US. But every 2wks I drive 5hrs one way to spend 2-1/2 hours mowing a lawn, then it’s another 5hrs to get back to my bed. Long distances are a routine part of life in the US for those of us who don’t stay at home. There are single states here that are not just larger than Scotland, but larger than the whole of the UK. Imagine having to travel from Glasgow to London every other week for a match, we have teams that travel from Scotland to Italy on a regular basis throughout the season, it’s not just MLS, but at almost all levels of the pyramid. Each week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi J.K. I am familiar with the scale of the US , i have travelled around the country in my younger years. i am not claiming that the distances being discussed that Fort William have to travel are longer than those you mentioned, that would be wrong and stupid. Having experienced both situations i still don’t agree that the comparison is valid . These are 2 completely different experiences from what you mention. Distance is only one aspect of the difficult travel situation that fort William have to contend with, the journeys they have to make are quite hazardous and arduous for many reasons not just because of distance. The comparison you were making seemed to trivialize the point that was being mentioned by the author which is what i am addressing. Btw, if i was you i would outsource that lawn mowing.
Now I’m in my 40’s I love living in the country. In my 20’s (footballer age) that would be my worst nightmare so tough to attract youngsters to live in that area.
Love the Scottish videos!

It would be good to have a pre season friendly between bottom of both highland and lowland leagues Fort William and Vale of lethan this season..
Losing team picking up the worst team award for the season..
May be the only chance the fans have of seeing the team win a match in some seasons I’d guess going off several previous seasons final table results..
They played three years ago in the Scottish Cup and Fort William won 5-0.

Worth going to Fort William just for the Pleasure of the Views on the Drive up the A82 through Glencoe.
Now that's proper "grass roots football , but I will tell you this if I lived at Fort William or even 25 miles away thats the place I would be on a Saturday afternoon to get my football fix and to admire the views, worse team in the world or not .What a nice bloke their Manager is I wish them all the very best for next season , I will be looking for their results .
Highlights from their match this weekend… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Played a few games back in the early 2000s for my local high school, I remember their home pitch well.
I’m so pleased to admit to the fact I’ve played at Claggan Park in a U17 League & is by far the most picturesque ground in the world, pitch was typically HL standard but we won 3-1 so not too bad overall.
This is one ground is on my bucket list, from a Torquay fan down in Devon
On holiday at Fort William a number of years ago I decided to take in a game - typically, it was the only day in the fortnight with bad weather. Even more typically, Fort lost, 1-0 in a Highland League Cup game against Wick Academy. I remember I was able to walk right in, but I felt guilty, and so went out again and paid my entrance fee at the gate. Clubs at this level need every penny they can get. I'm so glad I went, it's the most stunning setting for a ground I have ever seen.
Now you can see them again 😊 th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html
Im from a wee Village in Argyll and always dreamed of making lots of money and going back to sort the football team out with a stadium and drainage and facilities and stuff.... West coast needs to be set up better, as its way over looked and a lot of untapped potential just fades out generation after generation.
Television is dead. If the football focus mob made this video, you'll be talking a crew of 10 minimum. I heard footy adventures only has 3 cameramen and two sound men? This fella is on it again. Excellent vid.
As a resident of nearby Mallaig, most people miss the fact that for the size of it's club, Fort William is actually quite a busy (and growing) town. As usual, however, Rangers and Celtic are the teams of choice for most here. The potential for building a decent competitive Highland League club is there. Yes, it's remote. But so is Wick and Brora, both of whom manage in the league just fine. Unfortunately so many local people and businesses see the club as an embarassment. The BBC documentary didn't help that to be honest. I've been to Claggan Park to see them a few times. The one thing they could do to improve the experience of the casual fan is bring the spectator boundaries closer to the pitch, as watching over the barriers is horrendous because the pitch is too far away. Great video and good luck to Fort William.
Go visit..new rail up
It’s a shame the west Highlands and Islands don’t have any football teams. Big towns like Oban, Stornaway, Lerwick could do with teams
Stornoway do have at least one team (maybe more), there's one called Aths, the league has 10 or 12 teams including Ness FC (in the far north). Their season starts in Spring and runs til August,I think, and some of them compete in the Highlands and Islands Cup,so they sometimes get drawn AWAY and play on the mainland. Facilities at Ness FC are fantastic,I've been many times when my family used to live a mile from the ground, pitch is superb and the Clubhouse is wonderful.
Come to the kevin mcalistar stand opening at falkirk
Good to know that Fort William is close to the Harry Potter viaduct. Been planning for ages to scatter our moms ashes there but there’s been a bit of a virus about which keeps halting my plans.
how is fort william remote??? 2 hours drive from glasgow and its the biggest town in the Highlands behind inverness the city. also the population is between 25,000 and 30,000
As someone from the States, it is so funny to hear 2 hours as too far away.
Great video and a great club 👍
My walking football team lost to Fort William in a Scottish Cup tie back in 2019. Good bunch of guys who travelled a long distance for the love of the game. This year's Walking football Scottish Cup tournament took part last week in Glasgow Green. Hi I love your videos
When will you come down to Forfar
Hiya Sam, what team would win San Marino or Fort William? good question, I like it when you go to lower league clubs, did you realise both the owner and manager were both from England? Workington in Cumbria should be next on your list or in the near future, Kendal town also, how to get there is drive to Carlisle and follow the coast road to Workington about 32 miles away, Workington play their home games at Borough Park, when Wimbledon came into the league Workington were voted out that was in 1977,ALL THE BEST TO FORT WILLIAM FOR NEXT SEASON, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
You should do a big tour around Ireland visiting all the premier division teams and rating them out of 10
Been to the Fort a few years ago. Saw them lose 7-0. Also bought a FW coffee mug! Hope they fight back and win a few next season.
I won’t give the score away, but here’s their latest outing, possibly better than a 7-0 defeat… th-cam.com/video/Y-99YZRrMMw/w-d-xo.html

A major problem for
Fort William F.C is the fact that
the locals are Shinty mad in the same way Glasgow or Liverpool is football mad Fort William has
2 Shinty clubs & the thing sporting wise most of them care about
Is the Shinty derby between
Fort William & Kilmallie
It depends on where you are born in Fort William the upper or lower end of the town if you where born in the top end of Fort William you are a
Kilmallie fan if you are born
In the lower end of Fort William you are a Fort William fan.
I went on a date with a
Kilmallie years ago that's the only reason I know.
So it must be very difficult for
Fort William to get many fans to come along to games with the population of The Highlands not being particularly big in the first place.
Fort William is in what is could
The West Highlands most of the city's towns & villages in the
Highlands are in The Eaat Highlands.
It must be extremely difficult
for Fort William F.C to just survive never mind prosper at any level.
You should vist
Belfast & vist as many Belfast clubs in a day there is lots of them.
When are you going to vist
Johnstone Burgh & Pollok ?.
If you vist Johnstone there is a very good local amateur club
Thorn Athletic aswell as
Johnstone Burgh in Johnstone.
Keep Safe Sam.
Should send him st rochs then camby rangers as well I've played at the bough pitch is massive man
Just about applied for the management role they posted on twitter 🤣
As usual love your work…
Great video.
Thank you John 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I went there last summer and the journey from Glasgow to there was really long with basically nothing between then I went from there to Dingwall to watch rangers play Ross county and yet again it was a long journey with not between least you get good views and we won
could you please go to a livingston fc game at some point
Anyone notice that the league table math for points for Ft William was off in the second table shown? It said their points tally was -7 with them draw 2 games and losing 32. Shouldn’t it be 2 and not -7? Or am I missing something?
Points deduction!
@@FootyAdventures Oh i see…that makes sense. Looked it up…they received a 9-point deduction in the 2019/19 season for fielding an ineligible team on 3-occasions is what the reports say. Cheers!
Should go to either fc isle of man or jersey bulls as it would he interesting see how teams on different islands function.
They might be the worst team in Scotland...but their ground is set in the most spectacular scenery in the UK
This club deserves ‘owner with oil money’
Is this one of those badge of honour grounds in Scotland like Barrow and Carlisle in England football fans go to it just to say they been there as it's so far from anywhere 🚜🚜🚜💙
New the rules ffs league can't release fixtures till the court case is over. league is in nightmare possition !! as for play every game away the league teams payed the busses for them they could of said to the league playing surface was damaged before it was leaked out
Though despite the results I think they deserve a cup for all the traveling & that never say die attitude they have.
We all love the fighting underdog
If you want come to San Diego and check out a San Diego Loyal USL Championship game (a division below the MLS). We'll put you up and get you in.
the pitch at Fort William must be the flattest piece of land for 60 miles
it was wicked seeing you at whitly bay ! Theees still a canny few clubs round here you could check out But stay away from Sunderland. There foods the worst in the world and there strip Judy makes me wana barf. Come back to the north east and hear that Geordie raw!!!!
The issue with Fort William is not only geography but the fact they love having the gimmick of "Scotland's Worst Football Team " so its a waste of time and energy for every other team who has to play them. The players, management and staff enjoy having all the media attention for being such a bad team that losing is just part of the daily job for all the players. They should of been removed from the Highland league years ago however because of the structure it wasn't possible. Just a football club that isn't fit for purpose.
Hiya Robo, I feel sorry for teams like Fort William, I've been watching explaining European Soccer a guide for Americans, (put that into your computer and see what comes up and click on one of them),they should have promotion and relegation, I've heard them saying get rid of the Jets and Bengals, there a disgrace to NFL, things like that, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
My partner played for their under 16 and under 18 teams at the start of the nineties and says they had a lot of really good players all local lads!!! Up the Fort 🖕⚽️🏴

I’m here because of Loki Doki’s fm save lol
The Manager is english and so is the chairman.I know that fort william shinty club won the Cammanachd cup 3 times maybe its just not a football area
Is fort William football club still going if so wot league are there in up the fort
Vale of Leithen had a worse goal difference than fort william
Hiya Ross, did Vale of Leithen get to Scottish cup final in the 19th possibly early 20th century?
Team is in the North Caledonian League and was before this video was recorded.
my local club are in the bottom league in their region and there best game last season was a 4-1 loss
I am extremely so sad to see Fort William to be the worst team in Scotland,Europe and probably the world but fully hope that they would slowly bounce back to start winning more matches first by signing some good players and offload some unwanted ones from next season onwards and they are one of my favourite respective clubs daily and ever, good friends!!!🙏
It's a up hill battle for
Fort William F.C as Shinty is the moment sport there is two
Shinty clubs in the town is an intense rivalry they have for such a small town Shinty wise.
I went out with a lady from
Fort William back in 2011 that's how I know I dont many locals even know or care they have a football club
Shinty is to Fort William what football is to Glasgow & Liverpool.
Keep Safe.
