    Hello from Melbourne (Australia)
    We are a group of Seniors who learn WW2 history in a U3A (University of the third Age). Recently we have discovered your productions on TH-cam. Our weekly classes now include your presentation, which are totally amazing, the quality and also the music that accompanies the images. You are doing a fantastic work! Thanks for sharing!

      If you would like the real history of Germany ww2 best is to get an elder that lived threw it , so many lies and propaganda. The victories write the fake history. I’m German and know what really happened.

    • @mikej7476
      @mikej7476 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not "blackened soot". Just the old bricks and stone. That was done throughout Germany. They saved and used all the original materials to return the buildings to there original look. Go to 5:40 and you see an original piece of the building standing in front as a monument. In Bremen, Germany there is an old church with a room in the basement with pieces of the original church that size that they use for repairs on the church when needed. The church was the only building left standing in Bremen after it was bombed.

    Its amazing how you were able to stitch together some modern and historical footage "on the fly" as it were. By that I mean some shots the camera is just being held free hand yet it matches with older footage seamlessly, that's not an easy thing to do without a tripod and much trial and error of where to locate the camera to frame the shot plus angles etc.

    They were lucky Berlin wasn’t wiped from the maps of Europe.
    The Allies had every right to bomb Dresden. Did the Axis care when they bombed centuries old churches and edifice during their carpet bombing? Very good photography. Excellent use of juxtaposition between now and then.

    • @corn1971
      @corn1971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The controversy of bombing Dresden is it happened near the end of the war and the end being inevitable was clear to all. The city held little strategic or military significance. It was a city bursting with civilian refugees who'd fled other bombed cities and areas the east the Soviets had over run. Even Churchill would change his views on bombing cities after what happened in Dresden.
      A lot of history was lost because of the Nazi regime. Was it really necessary to destroy more of it when the end was in sight?
      Oddly in Berlin most of the old architecture in the city can be found in what was the former East Berlin. The West just tore most damaged buildings down and quickly rebuilt. Usually rather bland and ugly 50s/60s styles. The communists didn't have the money to do similar so repaired and rebuilt the old buildings where possible. After reunification, a lot of those old buildings weren't in the best shape and a lot of Berliners didn't want to live in them, they wanted to live in modern new buildings. Today most of the old buildings have been renovated and are the most sought after buildings to live in. Besides their classic beauty it's also their high ceilings and large rooms.

    I am a Chinese. We all know that Germany has colonies in Qingdao. I thought that Germany has a large number of colonies in the world. It was not until later that I found out that Germany had no colonies. It was precisely because Germany rose late and its colonies were robbed by Britain and France. Germany was unwilling to launch several world wars in succession and knew that they had been thoroughly fought. Defeat, the Germans are excellent, look forward to your rise again!

    • @corn1971
      @corn1971 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Partially correct. Germany had a few colonies in Africa and parts of Asia/Pacific. Lost them all after WWI. Namibia, a former colony, has in recent years raised the issue of how Germany treated the people there, operating the first concentration camp of the 20th century. Germany is only now beginning to acknowledge the horrific ways it treated native peoples.

    This might seem a presumption, but I don’t think those buildings are beautiful. The graffiti only adds to their taint.

    With that Huge Monument to Prussian / Nazi Military Agression, still standing .( Add the Victory Column) NO---not enough destruction, as you call it.

      It was a Monument to the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. A war of FRENCH Aggression... That's probably why the French wanted to blow it up but the Brits didn't allow it.
