      @@wendellspivey3747 That was part of the 1619 project. While yes America retained slavery the Founding Fathers tried hard to end it before we became a nation. Hence why Washington freed his and advocated against it. but in order to maintain the Union at the time they had to agree to something. Hence the 3/5s vote while retaining slavery.

      I personally doubt that Rogan wants anything to do with this conversation. A. He's a bit more woke than he seems and B. he's already thought of as "alt right adjacent ", whatever the fuck that means. He would look, to some, like the white guy who gets a black guy to say the racist stuff for him. He might like to avoid all of that.
      I don't think any of this is racist, I'm just talking about perception and the woke media mob.

    • @johanswede8200
      @johanswede8200 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@shamsam4 Sad. But don't you think the "internet crowd" could handle it. Not everybody, but many certainly would. Besides Joe doesn't need to say much. Preferably nothing, if Glenn and/or John came on.

    • @cowabungadude7408
      @cowabungadude7408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@shamsam4 Joe isn't woke. Joe holds fewer beliefs than most people assume, he's highly agreeable, and he's willing to be circumspect or even to temporarily endorse views if doing so may benefit whatever conversation he's having at the time. This is what makes him a great interviewer, but it has the result that he's only firm and consistent on a relatively small set of issues, usually those that relate most strongly to his core interests. My hunch is that Joe's primary limitations are (1) avoiding guests or topics so salacious they would push away more mainstream and higher profile guests and (2) avoiding guests or topics so salacious they could threaten his viability on TH-cam. (These limitations do not apply to John or Glenn; I think they haven't yet been invited on the show because (a) they're not visible to Joe, (b) no one's made a strong pitch on their behalf, (c) Joe invites few academics, (d) Joe rarely discusses race as the primary focus of an interview).

      @@kipwonder2233 Well, I'm as American as anyone else, and I don't fit into the five points you categorize as "Americanism". That may be YOUR view of what Americanism is, and that's fine, but it's not mine, and that's fine too.
      And THAT is Americanism, and one of the key things that differentiates this country from many others -- we can both be Americans whether or not we have anything else in common, and whether or not we even agree on what it means to be American.🤷🏾‍♀️
      Edit: Oh -- and I don't think the American Revolution was fought to preserve slavery either, I believe it was fought to give the very freedom that allows Americans to disagree but still comprise one country. It wasn't a perfect country in 1776 and it isn't even now, but it tends to trend towards becoming better.

    I don't believe democracy can work when people turn their backs on the truth in favor of a narrative, and when people who disagree with that narrative are dismissed from the table instead of being allowed a voice. Glenn "We're the so-call, not-woke black guys, the contrarian black guys . . ."
    You're the Based Black Guys. Just own it.

      Mateo ‘Based’ is the opposite of ‘Woke’ - think about the figures of Plato and Aristotle in Raphael’s “School of Athens”
      “Based” empirical, data-driven, common-sense, conservative.
      “Woke” is more heady, narrative-driven, it reflects initiation into a higher state of consciousness (every one is ‘asleep’ or down in Plato’s cave), so it’s hostile to common-sense and less accountable to data.
      The issue of policing and race is one of the clearest examples of the woke/based divide. It’s “based” to say that more blacks are in prison because they commit more crimes, and “Woke” to say they commit more crimes because they are over-policed. Even is the truth is somewhere in the middle John and Glenn find it closer to the “based” side.
      The term “based black guy” expresses the kind of patronizing enthusiasm that conservatives express when a black guy has a conservative take, or lends support to a conservative cause.

    Glenn and John are so darn eloquent and civilized, even in disagreement, that it's difficult to tell when they're arguing.

    I could not agree more with Glenn in feeling an urgency and despair. Whatever you guys can do to push back more on these “woke” ideologies really matters. The “everything is either racist or anti racists” message is moving forward at an alarming rate without resistance. Get Kemele, Coleman, TCW, and others, and PLEASE do more if you can. You all are brilliant and renew my faith in truth and reason. I have been listening to you two since Evergreen and adore you both! The Fifth Column episode with you both and the guys mentioned above, was one of the most positive and fascinating podcasts I have ever heard.

    I really appreciate the conversations of Glen and John. Glen has a great comic delivery. PS Cornel is as well a critic of the Tanahesi school of "anti-rscism." But from an analysis that considers class.

    Glenn, you speak a lot of truth. You have the gift of clarity of thought and being able to communicate those thoughts. I wish you start speaking to college campuses after the Covid crisis. You’re correct that to reach young people it has to be in a verbal context versus written. It would be fun to see you debate some of the white liberals on CNN, etc. Keep up your good work!
    Thanks

    I am new to your blog and I am enjoying catching up on your shows. After listening for about 30mins I realized I needed to do a quick check on Nikole Hannah Jones to get myself up to speed. It took only a few minutes listening to her to understand her perspective. I knew when I saw and listened to her that her mother was white and her father was black. She approached this venture as an angry/bitter (her words on the Daily Show) black (biracial) woman. In my opinion she used this work as an outlet to express her resentment towards her caucasian relatives who did not accept her and her sisters. Black women don't discount the hard work and passion we have put into our families. We would NEVER use slavery as an excuse for our families shortcomings EVER! Its disrespectful to our ancestors. You guys may sometimes need to get the perspective of a woman when analyzing the work of women.
