'Underwhelming' and 'meh' seems to be the new Star Wars quality target.
Unfortunately that's the bar for "mainstream entertainment" today. Mediocrity is the bar.
Even more regrettable, I often hear people measure the quality of one film/show against another of lesser quality, saying things like, "Well, at least it's better than most shows today", and I'm always like ... "So, is that good or bad? 🤔😂
Maybe for all of the extremely shitty movies and shows, but both Star Wars Jedi games, and Star Wars Outlaws are good. I've been having a great time so far with the 6 or so hours of gameplay that I have experienced, so those complaints are completely unwarranted. I'm 40 years old, and have been playing games since I was 4.

I miss the SW theme blaring out over the intro text crawl. It used to really make the games feel like SW and not just a novelty wrapper.
Same type of braindead energy that made people stand up and clap in the movie theatre for the sequel trilogy. As long as they get the opening crawl they will turn into a bunch of seals.

That's the biggest failure to Disney Star Wars. The music was the most powerful character in the franchise and they took that away. Mando season 1 did a fun job of making their own twist. But it ended there.

I miss when games had to meet a certain criteria of quality to be released. Nowadays, games can be released in a semi-unplayable state with an up charge of over $100.

Graphics aside, imagine if you could play this game as a character like Lando or Han. The ways you could try and get out of trouble using pure charisma, sweet talking, manipulation, etc would be more fun, I think. It's not often you see charisma-heavy characters in games and this is one where it could work well.
the game supposedly has a "fast talk" ability but the problem is this character has no charisma and the writers seemed to miss the fact that the "con" in con artist stands for "confidence" which this character has none of that either.
Due to the timeline there's no way playing as Lando or Han would make sense. Lando is or should be on his way to Tatooine to start plotting to rescue Han so him as a playable character in this wouldn't work and Han's in Frozen Carbonite. Either way having new characters isn't a bad thing. SW fans confuse me sometimes lol.

Star Wars the old republic will be the one true open world Star Wars game where you can do literally whatever you want and how you want and you can literally make your own character and have actual fun. Star Wars outlaws is an absolute joke and doesn’t live up to the 70 dollar price tag and especially not 160 dollars.
Still my go to Star Wars game to this day. Been playing since the game launched.

I'ma be honest, for the first hour and a half I thought you know, this game looks pretty cool. Most of the challenges you had with it were things I personally figured out pretty quick. But the dialogue, loading screens, game breaking glitches... Good grief. If the game would function I wouldn't be nearly as harsh as you were to it, but, with those glitches for $160 that's insane. Also, it not being openworld is ridiculous.
This game definitely needed to give you an expanding inventory of weapons and gear. Actually, the game should've just been made by Rockstar lol Storing weapons on your mount, an inventory, journal, note system, S tier dialogue, world exploration, rewarding curiosity, proper battles and gunfights, a rock-solid melee system, and if you're gonna have bugs and glitches make them as hilarious as possible

I was an adventurer like you, but then I took a blaster to the knee.
Things that are actually good: The music, and the world/level design. Both doing some heavy lifting, the music hits the right notes, the right beats, 'feels' right, and the landscapes/scenery sometimes look pretty gorgeous. Those guys had some talent being seriously wasted on this.
Things that are average-bad: Most of the other stuff
Which honestly is pretty par for the course with Ubisoft. Usually their set piece designs are nice, but their everything else stayed in 2008 and much like with Bethesda and Starfield you can only ride that kind of thing for so long before the markets evolve and people expect more from a game. No excuse for them to be charging more for a game that "might" have gotten a pass a decade and a half ago.
Things that are bad: the important stuff, the stuff that makes games fun such as being able to obtain different weapons from enemies that drop them, voice acting that doesn’t sound like trash and takes you out of the experience, stealth mechanics that make you feel like you’re actually sneaking around, a character that engages in actual criminal activity in a game called _Outlaws_ …

Seriously, I am about ten minutes into the video and can already tell that both the antagonist and protagonist are written by morons...
World design seems neat at first, until you go to the other planets where you find it's all the same in different biomes. Nothing but Skeezy bars and dirty, run down frontier towns. Just that one is in a Savanna, another in a desert, one covered in snow, and the last covered in vines, and that's it. The few high class areas you can get into are one time things, so no "high roller" or "big time mafioso" experience, you START on Canto Bight for force's sake and all you ever explore are the slums and one mansion for the opening heist (which rather than being double crossed, or even counter-crossed like Tyber Zann, the mc just freaks out and screws it all up, thinking she's hired nab loot instead of rescuing a prisoner, like who cares if you get paid either way?) none of that Solo on dryden voss's yacht high class shmoozing with syndicate higher ups. Which is what the late game SHOULD have been about. GTA starts you in the grime but they also have the glitz later on.
This game is nothing but grime, even the main villain's name seems like a bad pun on slime and the huttese insult "Sleemo"

I don't mind the concept of the game. Not every Star Wars game, movie or series need to be about jedi for me. What keeps me on the fence of this game is price, computer requirements and the avatar.

Current star wars ppl don’t even pay attention to details like how aliens would talk with a wide as mouth or things obstructing their speech due to anatomy, they wouldn’t all talk like a regular human. Some of them just sound like they’re lines were done in post (adr)

This is such an under-appreciated comment.
Ok. So after playing 12 hours solid. Real impressions.
Pros:
1.Much like jedi games, you can change outfits etc of your character, some have perks for example sneak better.
2.customise ship and speeder is a added touch, upgrading and finding collectables/paints to personalise your rides.
3.the space combat is pretty fun. Basic but fun all round. Harder than I expected personally.
4. The missions are basic and it's as if you're playing a 'comfort' game. Dipping in n out when you want to. However, it is interesting with choices you make, again, nothing groundbreaking. But it's nice to see some of you're choices make a difference to your experience.
5. It's really nice being in star wars! Walking the busy hustle of markets (mainly first planet I've been on in this time), the sounds/ atmosphere feels really nice! And for that I couldn't wait to go to other planets.
Cons: (unfortunately are several but 4 popped out most)
1.its very simple. Until you then get mini games like sabacc, then it'll go up to 11! This is jarring.
2. Graphics can go from oh wow to 'potato mode' within seconds.
3. THE GLITCHES!!! Multiple times I've had game crashes/ killed by invisible enemies/fail missions when I'm in rooms on own/ stuck in walls/ missions do not spawn correctly, to point I've failed numerous contract missions because the game won't accept I've collected everything/ deleting what I would consider a fun stealth mission. As of writing this my game has taken all points away, and now I can't leave space. And as it autosaved I'd lose about three hours of story. I'm just stuck.
4. The fact that this game is released in this state for people to spent more money (own fault, big SW fan of old, what can I say!) to play a few days in advance is a disgusting act, and the fact of buying season passes for a game that hasn't even had a chance to show anything off. Is an out right sin to gamers.
So for that reason. As much as I'm a fan, I cannot recommend buying this on release. When it's in sales, or maybe 40, sure, give it a spin. But right now. I stronger advise staying away from this ATM.
If you want a star wars to get lost in, any the jedi games. KOTOR or the old republic. These are your best bet folks!!!.
Update: been told through email from company behind the game I need to restart whole game again... Im gutted.
So again. Please wait, or if really want it like I did. Prepare for essentially being a games tester...

Are you fucking 5 years old? There are tons of unlocks for the speeder in the game. Speed boosts, speed increase, handling improvement, ect. You have to actually play the game to get a better speeder, you know, like every other game with any kind of progression.
You can tell this was made by ubisoft. Its basically Assassins Creed gameplay modified for star wars from what Ive seen so far in this video. Hence, the loading times. Although the most recent assassins had pretty good loading times

Im a pretty new viewer, basically stumbled upon you as The Acolyte was about to start airing, but i already appreciate your integrity and honesty. Being willing to shell out 160$ for a game you've heard almost nothing but bad about, so you can form your own opinion based on the game itself, and not on what others have said or how you feel about the company behind it, is a thing a surprising amount of people wouldnt do.

The reality of the situation is that the average Disney and modern Star Wars fan is probably going to like this and there are a lot of them. For me, I have no interest in Disney or most Star Wars content created under Disney, but I do understand that there are people that genuinely like it.
You nailed your closing thoughts especially customise your character to make it look to meet your preferences especially changing gender, and being able to play as a bounty hunter or select it as a character profile or story path.
You cant do any of these things in Fallen order but im sure you liked this one, you just dont like playing a female character and its ok its your right even if i think its pretty dumb. The game itselft is bad not because the main character is a female but because SW Outlaws have nothing good, gameplay bad, uninteresting dialog, outdated graphics and im even convinced playing an Outlaw in general is something nobody care when its about playing a SW game...
@@nuclearbuzz4707 Its not the female character part or else people wouldn't of played Tomb Raider back in the day or have the top played overwatch characters (top 3 most played are the women) its about like you said uninteresting dialogue and the fact that the main character is meant to be likable, clever and witty. Some say that characters in stories are only as smart as the author, and that authors can use various techniques to create smart characters, this can also effect likable characters or witty, point is the dialogue is cringe, the writers are poor and this character is unappealing.
But the female tag does make sure people can easily disregard all the top part of what I said and call fans bigots and dismiss criticism, which has been happening since 2016 so will they learn or will they keep burning money, time will tell.

@@nuclearbuzz4707 firstly the character has to be likable and secondly it's not a good image when the real life person looks better than the shitty character in the game, the characters face has been butchered, last time I checked the lead in fallen order did not have his face butchered differently to how he looked in real life, and to be honest I know the lead actor from the TV show Shameless so it was a lot easier for me to connect to the character/actor, and to be honest the story would have been better if you could play as bounty hunter and you create your own character female/male body preferences and facial preferences, the problem is since Kotor we still have not been able to play a proper narrative story that is open world where you can actually create your own character, and I think it would been even if you could play as a bounty hunter or a original mandalorian, at least it's something different but still diverse in play style and potential capabilities with tech and a vast range of skills a different experience from playing a jedi yet still fun to play, last time I checked Solo flopped, so why would a female scoundrel be any better, this game is a waste and pointless to exist.

It just goes to show what Massive gaming studios have turned into... Black Myth Wukong was made by a studio that used to make Mobile games... but they took 5-6 years to make it... Studios need to stop thinking they can deliver amazing games in a 1-2 year development cycle. Game development takes TIME.
I see your point that games take time…and raise you CDProjekt Red. Further, I’ll point to Halo 2. 3 years to make. Initial design, E3 demo and redesigned with in 6 months, released approximately a year later.
To a certain point, length of time doesn’t mean anything. What you need is a studio of dedicated, creative people who actually care. That’s what AAA gaming is missing now.

Forza 8 is trash, that took 6 years. Basically a reskin of fm7, but only half the gameplay options.

My non-spoiler review would be it’s a poor gamer’s remake of Solo: A Star Wars Story with lackluster characters who we can’t form any emotional connection to (especially the main scoundrel Kay herself). The story drags and the ending offers no significant payoff or desire to see where the journey would continue to. Like many previous Star Wars projects, this feels like a huge missed opportunity.

Early Access is a commonly accepted term to pin on a game that is being released for cash - but isn't finished yet. We actually accept it as a norm because things have gotten so bad. Don't even get me started on mobile gaming."

I've actually started playing it and in my opinion its not too bad I'm actually enjoying it.
The fact this has a 78 on metacritic and Wukong has 81 despite being just hands down the way better game is just baffling to me.
That a chinese studio that never made a AAA Game before outperforms such a blockbuster title must be brutal for some people in the industry.
Thast probably why IGN tried their hardest to paint the devs of Wukong as racists.
Because american companies don't want to lose money to foreign developers 🤷🏻♂️ that's my hunch

It is. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. It's not perfect but it does show you a different aspect of the Star Wars Universe and builds upon some established new lore. I finished the story with my early access purchase and I'm free roaming now completing contracts for the syndicates. I can't wait to see more content.
Star Wars games being dog shit for over 20 years now will always baffle me. Biggest blunder in gaming. They have the easiest media to make such a wide range of cool shit. And we get poo like this constantly.

I think it would’ve been a lot cooler if this was something like a “Fennec Shand” (sp?) origin story or something like that. Showing her growing up and learning to be a bounty hunter or smuggler of some type. It would tie into Mando and to BoBF also in a small way that would eventually lead to her getting involved with Mando and with Boba.
