I used a sea sponge my first paint job and it came out really nice and unique but I’m going to use this method on the next build I’m starting once it’s complete. Thank you for the technique. Turned out super rad
Id recommend getting one of those dollar store empty ketchup bottles and you have more control over the soap and the pattern. Best part about camo is there very few ways to do it wrong, awesome vid.
Dude this is super badass I hope you're doing this on the side making money because I know a lot of people that are scared to attempt something like this theirselves on their guns and you're very good at doing it
rubberbands does the same thing, isn't wet, and you don't need to rush hahah though i love the vreative thought. this has a few applications beyond what I can see rubberbands doing in the right circumstances - namely large flat surfaces I had never even though of that! I use heated glue guns because they come off so easy with a scalpel and won't scratch withn a bladed spatula but this seems better as i won't have to be so precise when removing. great work!
That’s a damn fine paint job. I’m impressed with how it turned out. I used a non slip shelf liner and pined it tight to my AR and sprayed it with 3 darker colors on a khaki base coat. It turned out great as well. Kind of a snake skin pattern.
Thanks man. That's cool about the shelf liner! I just painted my 10-22 using some shelf liner, it is a cool pattern, different from the usual mesh bags used.
Now you gotta get a layer or seven of some good ol “battle wear” AKA go shoot the darn thing. Don’t reckon I’ve seen this method before it turned out killer! Well done thanks for sharing!
Hey thanks man. I love that song and band, I should have realized most people don't like post hardcore/math rock. I've gotten a lot of comment complaining about the horrible music haha.
@@SaveFace I like it very much. This is one of my boys favorite weapons that we have. We have it outfitted with the Rebel Suppressors SOS Hunter. We find that with only three baffles has the best sound. With subsonics it is as quiet as a 22.. it is a fun gun to shoot that's for sure.
That sounds sweet! I only have a few hundred rounds through mine, it's a neat platform. I have a Resonator K that's been sitting in jail. I can't wait to take it home, especially for this gun!!
@@SaveFace I have not, but a friend of mine is pretty talented at it and has his own side business doing it. It's pretty cool, but a bit gear intensive for doing bigger items.
@Save Face, you've definitely got tons of comments praising your work, rightfully so. I just wanted to say that I've been wanting to spray my ARs for a while now, and have watched plenty of videos on it. Some of them came out pretty nice, but still hadn't been "wowed" by them. Then I saw this. Outstanding. I'm definitely going to try this method. I would have stopped after the first rinse, but you kept going, to my surprise, and it came out even better. Outstanding man!
Thank you so much man! I appreciate the nice compliment. I was kinda motivated by the lack of simple "wow" paint jobs. I personally think most of the laundry bag paint jobs could be much better with a little more planning/ another color. I was pretty close to stopping after the first wash. But I had done enough test runs to know a second layer of soap would be best. Thanks again.
Just did this for the first time using your video as a guide. It’s nerve racking during the process but so worth it. Mine turned out amazing and doing a second coat was definitely a good call. On the second one i recommend mixing/blending up some of the colors and distance you apply them from, to add even more contrast and depth
That's awesome! You're right about blending colors and textures. I misted most of my second layer I think with a few colors that got some good gradients/new colors.
@@SaveFace I really appreciate the video. It was awesome idea, I can’t believe there’s not more videos talking about this on TH-cam. It hurts my heart to see these disgusting rattle can jobs. I see people doing now.

I've been doing this for years... It looks way better than something done with stencils by far. Very easy to do. The soap will pool in some areas, so be mindful and use it sparingly. I use a good decreaser over rubbing alcohol. I would recommend using a big bottle and use a striping motion. Better results
I painted my first AR today before I saw your video. I just used the Tiger stripe method of different colors diagonally adjacent to each other. I absolutely love it. And then I saw this and I'm doing another one tomorrow. Your weapon came out bad ass!
I've never used the patterns. I've seen it done and i have been curious about it. I'm always afraid of peeling when removing stencils. Always have bad luck
@@frankm8477 with the sticky vinyl, degrease well and it is best to let the base coat cure before applying. I found that out the hard way. But...paint sticks to paint better than plastic or metal, so once that base coat is cured you should be able to sticker it, paint again, allow to dry for 15, sticker some more and so on. Once the final coat is done, allow about 30 minutes and peel off your vinyl pieces. Has worked on 6 different rifles for me doing it this way. Also, shiny metal objects will need a good primer coat to help adhesion. Phosphate coated and plastic have no issues as long as base is cured.
