  • Raga Lalit Pancham played by Sitar Samrat Nikhil Banerjee.
Lalit Pancham : This Raga is a combination of Raga Pancham and Raga Lalit using Shudhha Dhaivat. In Poorvang, the the phrases of Pancham are used such as Sm - mG, GMDMG - MGrS - 'D'NSm and in Uttaranga, ND - NDP - DMDMm shows the Pancham. Lalit Ang is seen in phrases such as GmMmG and 'NrGmMm. The usage of Pancham is Vakra - it is not allowed to use it straightly in Arova or Avaroha, but one has to use it in reference of Dhaivat and Teevra Madhyam only. In some Gharanas, 'Lalit Pancham' is considered to be a 'Chayalaga Raga", i.e. using tint of Lalit in Raga Pancham. So according to that, it is not Mishra Raga and so Pancham is the base Raga on which just some shade of Lalit is explored. Though there are two traditions having such different views, the Bandish 'Udat Bandhan' in Jhaptaal is sung commonly. This Bandish is a poem by saint-poet KumbhanDas from Ashtachhap tradition. This Bandish depicts the scene of Hori (festival of colors) played by Lord Krishna. According to some traditional musicians, this Bandish is "Pancham", not "Lalit Pancham".
