It’s so frustrating that the dragon episode teased Rick’s reliance on science being useless in a fantasy world with magic and then immediately backtracked. It would’ve been nice to see Rick be powerless and have Morty be the super competent one.

I was never too bothered by season 3. I mostly watch Rick and Morty for the creativity of the episodes en world/character designs and I thought that season 3 was fine when it came to those things. One problem I do have with newer episodes is, like you said, that the episodes can be paced too fast at times, which leads to confusion and ideas not being given the time for the audience to sink in. I noticed it a lot in the heist and train episodes.
yeah and the fact they built up Tammy to be a major antagonist and then she boom head shot just like that no confrontation with summer over betrayal of there friendship or How and why she joined the Galactic Federation seriously wasted potential and waited two years just for that
I think season 3 was still better than season 4 but, neither of them were able to recapture the consistency of season 1 and 2 as far having solid comedy and storytelling. Season 3 felt bogged down by the writers spending too long on character arcs than realizing the concepts for humour but season 4 just felt like a case of the concepts being stretched out and the meta commentary was excessive and at times needless.
Season 4 was just too trivial in comparison to the previous seasons. Sadly Season 5 got even more trivial. With exceptions like Rickternal Friendship. But that's mostly about it.
I can agree with that. In all truthfulness season 4 was not meant to be a good season. I could kinda say that for season 3 because I barely remember it. Transitional seasons .
That whole final scene was about rick having to actually confront how bad of a father he is and not as a joke but him being at his lowest point. The family now clearly is more against him then ever and he has lost all control over them and he now is alone, not being able to joke his way out of it and realizing that it’s not okay that he is a bad father and he has to change.
Which is worse if you think about it because Season 1 and 2 premiered in consecutive years whereas we have to wait 2 years for new seasons that have less episodes (from 12 to 10) and a decline in quality consistency. Like, what the fuck?

glad i wasnt the only one who noticed a dip in quality. I honestly sat here fried as fuck thinking to myself "What the hell is happening to this show?" The only truly great episodes were the vat of acid episode and the finale. Like, even Season 3 had more good episodes than this season. The rest practically ranged from meh to pretty good. What makes this situation 100x worse is how big and popular the show is - not to mention it has 6 more seasons ahead of it so there's no worry of getting the axe no matter how good or bad it is.
Season 4 , they got too cocky. They felt they couldnt do any wrong. Listen to how they came up with the plot for VAT OF ACID. Which that was a solid epi. But the idea was so effortless. Just well executed.

My order of season 4 episodes, best to worst 1. The Vat Of Acid - the funniest, emotional and the most easy to understand, plus the meta doesn’t seems as forced 2. The Old Man and the Seat - I loved this episode, it was beautifully animated and both the plots were pretty fun. I enjoyed it because it was chill and the ending scene killed me 3. Rattlestar Ricklactica - funny, good fight scenes and I loved Jerry’s plot line! When I first watched it, I didn’t really understand the snake scene.. seemed abit unclear but that could just be me 4. Edge of Tomorty: Rick die Repeat - I chuckled at a few bits but overall it was okay. I have no major criticism for this episode 5. Starmort: Rick Turn of the Jerri - the Star Wars jokes was too repetitive but the rest of the episode was pretty fun (and sad ofc); great fan service 6. Promortyus - the incest vibes again for the second time... are they running out of jokes? The rest of the episode seems like classic rick and morty episode and that I enjoyed 7. ChildRick of Mort - Average but redeemable because Ricks arc and the huge fight scene. 8. Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim’s Morty - was so weird but I guess it was the point of it... Jerry’s plot was just average and slightly frustrating 9. Never Ricking Morty - I had to watch this so many times just to understand it, so bloody confusing. Seemed like a huge whine fest that I know will not age well 10. One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty - I just hated this episode so much oh my god.

The train episode wasnt that hard to understand tho. It basically all took place on a train while a rick was shouting out random stuff about capitalism
This season was pretty bad imo. The only saving grace was the finale. I want more episodes where they travel to different dimensions/universes. The show is meant to be about multidimensional travel yet we barley see any of it this season. I miss the crazy concepts that they had in the first two seasons. I also miss how laid back the show used to be. It didn’t need to constantly be self aware or make social commentary to be good. Episodes like Auto Erotic Assimilation, Raising Gazorpazorp, Close Rick Counters of the Rick Kind, Mortynight Run, Look Who’s Purging Now, Total Rickall, A Rickle in Time were all amazing episodes that expanded on new concepts and worlds while developing the characters in a neat organic way.
This season certainly went up its own ass at times. The train episode seemed like an attempt at community style meta humour but it wasn’t nearly as charming or funny (which is weird considering they share a writer)
In my words, this show has become too cynical for its own good. Like, you can never have fun with it, because it's always in a hurry to remind you of how shitty everything is, and how nothing really matters. Not to mention the overabundance of meta humor is pretty jarring at times.
I kinda wish the show would either commit to being purely episodic with some continuity, or completely story-driven with some one-off episodes. This line in the middle that they've been riding feels like a cocktease, excuse my French. Rick and Morty can be a great episodic cartoon, or a great story cartoon. But as both, I think it's just good.

I thought the season was not horrible but definitely not up to par with the first 2. I thought that the vat of acid episodes was definitely the best, and there were 2 or 3 others that were really funny and good. The rest felt mediocre at best and too complicated or relied to heavily on one joke to make it funny or delightful. I still think this show has been over all one of the best adult animated shows ever and I really hope they bring their A game in season 5

Definitely the weakest season. They're far too aware of both themselves as well as the culture of the real world. This isn't a show that I want to hear the term "incel" in and I have no idea why they decided to inundate the audience with social commentary jabs instead of just focusing on their own world like in previous seasons. Yeah I've never understood this. People are repulsed by the idea of a modern show using modern slang but can look at something from the past that uses outdated language as "a product of its time". Just reminds of people ravaging new seasons of Its Always Sunny for being too topical when its always been like that. Or Star Wars for being 'too political' nowadays, when its basic plot is about rebels overthrowing space fascists.

Unlike in the past , where you rarely knew what the director/producer/storyteller/whatever intent was, unless of course you wanted to watch some documentary or news interview at some hard to watch time, you can now know for a fact what their intent is and they for the most part are more than willing to share it. This can be seen as bad, because what was once those bad characters are doing bad things is now those "bad" characters that are supposed to represent me, or some political ideology that I agree with, are doing "bad" things. In a few words, authors take the fictional and hypothetical, and make it personal and real. Another thing is that a lot of movies didn't use words they used ideas. Take Star Wars for example, it may be about fascism and Nazis, but it never calls dark side user Nazis nor calls their goverment fascist in the movie itself. The iconography is present in the uniforms and storm troopers, but it is hidden well enough that unless your looking for it or have watched the hard to come by interviews for contextualization you can easily miss it. Without the contextualization from the director George Lucas, the Dark Side users could easily be any other authoritarian government in a fantasy setting. The Third Reason is people have a lot more control over what they watch and many things are saved for posterity. This means you can go back and watch that interview or with the help of other viewers help stoke your own middling outrage for something you only mildly disliked. In affect people are turning a "meh" into "horrible". You can also rewatch interviews you disliked to make you angrier and angrier further fueling your outrage.
Episode 6 was definetly the best for me. The scene with involving Jesus to break the structure and marketability of the "story" alone brings it to the first place.

Old Man and the Seat (Don’t at me, I was so bored of this episode) This season is a step up from season three which I only like three episodes from. Enjoyed at least half of this season and even the eps I’m not crazy about weren’t as bad as season three‘s duds. Decent season overall. On a side note, next to the criticisms you gave, it’s annoying how the entire family breaks the forth wall now, bringing up the current season and their arcs when that only use to be Rick’s thing.
Exactly I'm not a fan of it either the only other person I see getting away with it would of been morty since justin Roiland voices them both and he's probably the only person who's around Rick long enough to have picked up the habit

It's just annoying now and season 4 episode 6 was really the one that had me the most annoyed with the way they treated fans that loved the show and hoped to see it go. I still enjoyed season 4 maybe slightly more than season 3 but man i wish we had the seasons like 1, 2 and even 3 where they weren't so self-aware like they are now.
I feel like Season 4 is... unpolished. "Never Ricking Morty" seems to indicate that they have too many ideas and just don't wanna let any of them go no matter what.
Peter Dinklage said it best himself "The natural life span of a TV show is about 5 seasons." Seriously think about it. How many shows can you think of that were as good as season 7 as they were in season 2 Rick and Morty probably has 1 or 2 more good seasons and then it will go the way of Family Guy

@Kenny McCormick Game of Thrones is a bit of a strange case. Seasons 1 -5 follow the book almost to a T. After that the quality very quickly started to drop. I hope that one day we can see an animated version of the last 2 books done right. But I highly doubt it. George is getting up there in years and I don't think that he physically has much more work left in him

Its done for as far as i'm concerned. Season 1+2 were incredible, one of the best shows of all time. Season 3 was kinda disappointing but had some great moments and altogether worked. You do realize that in Rick die repeat, we weren’t meant to want morty to succeed which is why you weren’t rooting for him. The point was that he had to learn to live in the moment more while still thinking ahead.

actually just finished season four today after realizing i never finished all the episodes. it was definitely a big step up from season three, but i think what makes this show's weak points incredibly noticeable is what we have to compare it to. seasons one and two are basically regarded as the best seasons of the show. once you start off strong like that, people are going to notice a sudden dip in quality. but it seems like rick and morty may be recovering from that, if this season was anything to go by, so i'm eagerly awaiting its return!

S P I’m enjoying it so why would I stop watching something I enjoy. I want Rick and Morty to keep doing what’s it’s been doing episodic episodes with one or two serialized ones. Season 3 was a disappointment to me half of it do to the three year gap I expected the biggest comeback in history but I can’t sub par episodes. Season 4 is another season 1 and that’s a good thing, season 2 is still the best
i really enjoyed this season! although, i also really enjoyed season 3, so think of that what you will. i just wish the finale had at least one episode of build up (or even just an end credit scene in the previous episode) before it so it could have hit the way i think they wanted it to.
This season is really mixed to be honest. The premier blew me away. It felt absolutely like classic Rick and Morty. Great concepts and super funny jokes. Episode 2, which I didn’t like at first, definitely grew on me on rewatch. I didn’t really feel angry about this season until episode 3 which I fricking hate. I can’t stand the stupid crew gag, but I did like everything else I guess. Meh tbh. Episode 4 well, lets not speak of it. But damn episode 5 was the turning point for me. Really after that point, I had no issues with the season. Anyways here’s my rankings. 1. RattleStar Rickglatica- Amazing 2. Edge of Tommorty, Rickdie and Rickpeat- Amazing 3. StarMort Rickturn of the Jerry- Amazing 4. The Vat of Acid Episode- Amazing 5. Promortyus- Great 6. Never Ricking Morty- Great 7. Childrick of the Rick- Good 8. The Old Man and the Seat- Good 9. GB Rogo old man and the seat was solid, but I think it has a major pacing issue. Three different plots flipping back and forth, none having enough time to them. Rattlestar is easily my favorite of the season. The concept is so stupid yet genius and the episode is packed full of laugh out loud moments. Probably the funniest episode to me alongside Mortynight Run. And one crew crew was ok I guess. I didn’t love the jokes being overused, even if they varied a bit, it was too much. Not much substance at all. I do like moments, but eh it exist to me.
Tanner Smanner I love the train episode the most because it shit on the idea of rick and mortys continuous story. I don’t care as much about the “story” as most fans so I loved them poking fun at fans with that huge Star Wars like battle scene against evil morty, the episode even took some good jabs at the creators. I also really love old man and the seat I think it’s pacing is fine but that’s just me, the whole season I thought was great
I was scrolling through looking for someone with this type of opinion. Yes, I absolutely agree. There was so much I loved about it from the comedy, to the emotions, and for the relatability of both sides.
Season 3 had 2 of the best episodes (Rickshank Redemption & Ricklantis Mixup) but aside from that it was VERY underwhelming for me. I don’t think 4 is by any means marginally better but in terms of consistency it gets a slight edge over s3
@@wolfe5471 for me its more of the opposite. S3 was underwhelming, but the first few episodes of S4 weren't really that amazing. I will agree that S4 does get much better around ep5, but I think S3 is a bit better, mainly because the episodes are more memorable as well as have more consistency imo.
I mean personally I enjoyed season 4 a lot, but I will say definitely this is the weakest season of the show thus far. Episodes 2, 3, 4, & 7 are all episodes that really shoot this season down for me.

The first episode is lighter on the deeper meanings? I mean the story is pretty straight forward but this is a shit take. This was one of their best episodes with their best "moral of the story" type of endings. Why do people consistently have such shit takes about this season.
So much of this season felt “up-its-own-ass”. Wasn’t into it. Still some funny moments, and the animation as always is spectacular, but wasn’t fond of the writing nearly at all this season.

Season 4 , they got too cocky. They felt they couldnt do any wrong. Listen to how they came up with the plot for VAT OF ACID. Which that was a solid epi. But the idea was so effortless. Just well executed.

My order of season 4 episodes, best to worst
1. The Vat Of Acid - the funniest, emotional and the most easy to understand, plus the meta doesn’t seems as forced
2. The Old Man and the Seat - I loved this episode, it was beautifully animated and both the plots were pretty fun. I enjoyed it because it was chill and the ending scene killed me
3. Rattlestar Ricklactica - funny, good fight scenes and I loved Jerry’s plot line! When I first watched it, I didn’t really understand the snake scene.. seemed abit unclear but that could just be me
4. Edge of Tomorty: Rick die Repeat - I chuckled at a few bits but overall it was okay. I have no major criticism for this episode
5. Starmort: Rick Turn of the Jerri - the Star Wars jokes was too repetitive but the rest of the episode was pretty fun (and sad ofc); great fan service
6. Promortyus - the incest vibes again for the second time... are they running out of jokes? The rest of the episode seems like classic rick and morty episode and that I enjoyed
7. ChildRick of Mort - Average but redeemable because Ricks arc and the huge fight scene.
8. Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim’s Morty - was so weird but I guess it was the point of it... Jerry’s plot was just average and slightly frustrating
9. Never Ricking Morty - I had to watch this so many times just to understand it, so bloody confusing. Seemed like a huge whine fest that I know will not age well
10. One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty - I just hated this episode so much oh my god.

The train episode wasnt that hard to understand tho. It basically all took place on a train while a rick was shouting out random stuff about capitalism
This season was pretty bad imo. The only saving grace was the finale. I want more episodes where they travel to different dimensions/universes. The show is meant to be about multidimensional travel yet we barley see any of it this season.
I miss the crazy concepts that they had in the first two seasons. I also miss how laid back the show used to be. It didn’t need to constantly be self aware or make social commentary to be good. Episodes like Auto Erotic Assimilation, Raising Gazorpazorp, Close Rick Counters of the Rick Kind, Mortynight Run, Look Who’s Purging Now, Total Rickall, A Rickle in Time were all amazing episodes that expanded on new concepts and worlds while developing the characters in a neat organic way.

This season certainly went up its own ass at times. The train episode seemed like an attempt at community style meta humour but it wasn’t nearly as charming or funny (which is weird considering they share a writer)
In my words, this show has become too cynical for its own good. Like, you can never have fun with it, because it's always in a hurry to remind you of how shitty everything is, and how nothing really matters. Not to mention the overabundance of meta humor is pretty jarring at times.

I kinda wish the show would either commit to being purely episodic with some continuity, or completely story-driven with some one-off episodes. This line in the middle that they've been riding feels like a cocktease, excuse my French. Rick and Morty can be a great episodic cartoon, or a great story cartoon. But as both, I think it's just good.
You hit the nail on the head...i feel like seasons 1 and 2 the characters were headed somewhere, and they'd throw in an occasional stand alone episode.

I thought the season was not horrible but definitely not up to par with the first 2. I thought that the vat of acid episodes was definitely the best, and there were 2 or 3 others that were really funny and good. The rest felt mediocre at best and too complicated or relied to heavily on one joke to make it funny or delightful. I still think this show has been over all one of the best adult animated shows ever and I really hope they bring their A game in season 5

Definitely the weakest season. They're far too aware of both themselves as well as the culture of the real world. This isn't a show that I want to hear the term "incel" in and I have no idea why they decided to inundate the audience with social commentary jabs instead of just focusing on their own world like in previous seasons. Still had some good moments but that's about it for me dawg.

Unlike in the past , where you rarely knew what the director/producer/storyteller/whatever intent was, unless of course you wanted to watch some documentary or news interview at some hard to watch time, you can now know for a fact what their intent is and they for the most part are more than willing to share it. This can be seen as bad, because what was once those bad characters are doing bad things is now those "bad" characters that are supposed to represent me, or some political ideology that I agree with, are doing "bad" things. In a few words, authors take the fictional and hypothetical, and make it personal and real. Another thing is that a lot of movies didn't use words they used ideas. Take Star Wars for example, it may be about fascism and Nazis, but it never calls dark side user Nazis nor calls their goverment fascist in the movie itself. The iconography is present in the uniforms and storm troopers, but it is hidden well enough that unless your looking for it or have watched the hard to come by interviews for contextualization you can easily miss it. Without the contextualization from the director George Lucas, the Dark Side users could easily be any other authoritarian government in a fantasy setting. The Third Reason is people have a lot more control over what they watch and many things are saved for posterity. This means you can go back and watch that interview or with the help of other viewers help stoke your own middling outrage for something you only mildly disliked. In affect people are turning a "meh" into "horrible". You can also rewatch interviews you disliked to make you angrier and angrier further fueling your outrage.
Episode 6 was definetly the best for me. The scene with involving Jesus to break the structure and marketability of the "story" alone brings it to the first place.

This season is a step up from season three which I only like three episodes from. Enjoyed at least half of this season and even the eps I’m not crazy about weren’t as bad as season three‘s duds. Decent season overall.
On a side note, next to the criticisms you gave, it’s annoying how the entire family breaks the forth wall now, bringing up the current season and their arcs when that only use to be Rick’s thing.

@@CoryTheNorm And rick didn't do that all the time! He used to do it like every few episodes or so at a time. Now it's like every episode, multiple times with the whole family doing it. It's just annoying now and season 4 episode 6 was really the one that had me the most annoyed with the way they treated fans that loved the show and hoped to see it go. I still enjoyed season 4 maybe slightly more than season 3 but man i wish we had the seasons like 1, 2 and even 3 where they weren't so self-aware like they are now.
I feel like Season 4 is... unpolished. "Never Ricking Morty" seems to indicate that they have too many ideas and just don't wanna let any of them go no matter what.
Didnt realise people had such an issue with Season 3, its still far superior to Season 4 which was just a complete mess and probably 2 good episodes.

@Kenny McCormick Game of Thrones is a bit of a strange case. Seasons 1 -5 follow the book almost to a T. After that the quality very quickly started to drop. I hope that one day we can see an animated version of the last 2 books done right. But I highly doubt it. George is getting up there in years and I don't think that he physically has much more work left in him

Its done for as far as i'm concerned. Season 1+2 were incredible, one of the best shows of all time. Season 3 was kinda disappointing but had some great moments and altogether worked. Season 4 started bad and it just got worse. Are they even trying to be funny anymore? The writing has become stale and contrived, the characters have become caricatures of themselves already. I'm honestly surprised the same fans of the first 2 seasons are OK with season 4.
You do realize that in Rick die repeat, we weren’t meant to want morty to succeed which is why you weren’t rooting for him. The point was that he had to learn to live in the moment more while still thinking ahead.

actually just finished season four today after realizing i never finished all the episodes. it was definitely a big step up from season three, but i think what makes this show's weak points incredibly noticeable is what we have to compare it to. seasons one and two are basically regarded as the best seasons of the show. once you start off strong like that, people are going to notice a sudden dip in quality.
but it seems like rick and morty may be recovering from that, if this season was anything to go by, so i'm eagerly awaiting its return!
Season 4 sucked big time when watching previous seasons as every character felt very off/not the same as the only person left unharmed was our good ol jerry! :)
It's definitely a step up from Season 3, but it feels a little unfocused in the way that it tries to be both a serialized dramatic story and a fourth wall breaking sitcom to inconsistent results. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good step forward for the series.

S P I’m enjoying it so why would I stop watching something I enjoy. I want Rick and Morty to keep doing what’s it’s been doing episodic episodes with one or two serialized ones. Season 3 was a disappointment to me half of it do to the three year gap I expected the biggest comeback in history but I can’t sub par episodes. Season 4 is another season 1 and that’s a good thing, season 2 is still the best
i really enjoyed this season! although, i also really enjoyed season 3, so think of that what you will. i just wish the finale had at least one episode of build up (or even just an end credit scene in the previous episode) before it so it could have hit the way i think they wanted it to.
This season is really mixed to be honest. The premier blew me away. It felt absolutely like classic Rick and Morty. Great concepts and super funny jokes. Episode 2, which I didn’t like at first, definitely grew on me on rewatch. I didn’t really feel angry about this season until episode 3 which I fricking hate. I can’t stand the stupid crew gag, but I did like everything else I guess. Meh tbh. Episode 4 well, lets not speak of it. But damn episode 5 was the turning point for me. Really after that point, I had no issues with the season. Anyways here’s my rankings.

Old man and the seat was great, better then the snake one. Also I liked the heist one, just because it had Mr poopy butthole
GB Rogo old man and the seat was solid, but I think it has a major pacing issue. Three different plots flipping back and forth, none having enough time to them. Rattlestar is easily my favorite of the season. The concept is so stupid yet genius and the episode is packed full of laugh out loud moments. Probably the funniest episode to me alongside Mortynight Run. And one crew crew was ok I guess. I didn’t love the jokes being overused, even if they varied a bit, it was too much. Not much substance at all. I do like moments, but eh it exist to me.
Tanner Smanner I love the train episode the most because it shit on the idea of rick and mortys continuous story. I don’t care as much about the “story” as most fans so I loved them poking fun at fans with that huge Star Wars like battle scene against evil morty, the episode even took some good jabs at the creators. I also really love old man and the seat I think it’s pacing is fine but that’s just me, the whole season I thought was great

Season 3 had 2 of the best episodes (Rickshank Redemption & Ricklantis Mixup) but aside from that it was VERY underwhelming for me. I don’t think 4 is by any means marginally better but in terms of consistency it gets a slight edge over s3
@@wolfe5471 for me its more of the opposite. S3 was underwhelming, but the first few episodes of S4 weren't really that amazing. I will agree that S4 does get much better around ep5, but I think S3 is a bit better, mainly because the episodes are more memorable as well as have more consistency imo.
I mean personally I enjoyed season 4 a lot, but I will say definitely this is the weakest season of the show thus far. Episodes 2, 3, 4, & 7 are all episodes that really shoot this season down for me.

The first episode is lighter on the deeper meanings? I mean the story is pretty straight forward but this is a shit take. This was one of their best episodes with their best "moral of the story" type of endings.

So much of this season felt “up-its-own-ass”. Wasn’t into it. Still some funny moments, and the animation as always is spectacular, but wasn’t fond of the writing nearly at all this season.
