  • Wondering how to flock a Christmas tree? I was wondering the same thing! I took matters into my own hands and flocked my own tree saving me tons of money and I am so happy with the end result! I'm sharing step by step how I flocked my tree and how you can achieve the same beautiful results!

How to flock a Christmas tree: The Cheap and Easy Way
-In an outdoor well-ventilated space put down a tarp and place your artificial tree in the middle.
-Fluff your entire tree and unplug any lights. You will be getting your Christmas tree wet as you flock it and you don't want to get electrocuted!
-Next, once your tree is completely fluffed get it wet with a good spray bottle! I found that working in small sections and spraying as I went worked well!
-Working in sections put your snow bond powder into a cup and lightly dump it all over the area of your Christmas tree you are working on.
-Now, once you have dumped enough snow bond on your artificial trees, get it wet again. This will make the snow bond harden and stay in place permanently.
-Repeat these steps laying your tree as many times until you have the desired amount of flocking bonded to your entire tree!
-Let sit until dry and the flocking material has hardened and you're done!
    Supplies (affiliate links)
    - Sno Bond Amazon tends to fluctuate what types of flock they have in stock these three options are the best to achieve the look in this video:

Wear a dust mask. The flock powder contains a water activated adhesive so you don't want that powder in your lungs. Keep your children and pets away from the work area. Wet down the tree with a garden hose before you begin applying flock. For best results, spray mist at the dust as it falls to the branches. That technique simulates a freshly fallen snow look. Several light applications will build up to a nice heavy layer more effectively than attempting a heavy snowfall in just one pass. The wet powder is very slippery underfoot so watch your step, particularly if you use a ladder. Damp flock feels slimy to the touch. But don't worry, after the flock dries it is pleasant to the touch, like crisp paper or fresh popcorn.
The flock did not disturb the indoor/outdoor lights on my tree, but it did help hide the wires and sockets. Keep the lights unplugged until the tree is completely dry. You can apply painters tape to all the bulbs if you want to get fussy. However, the dried flock rubs off the bulbs quite easily if you don't like the look. A freshly flocked tree will shed at first. Shake the branches to dislodge loose powder before you move the tree indoors. Most of the flock will adhere. Avoid rough handling the flocked branches during decorating. I recommend stringing lights on the tree before applying flock.
I used a battery operated flour sifter because my hands are weak and prone to cramping and arthritis. Flip the switch and the dust falls automatically. I bought a fine mist sprayer at a beauty supply shop. Depress the trigger once and the mist continues for several seconds. I preferred a small bottle because water is heavy. It was easier for me to refill a small bottle of water than to keep pumping a large bottle of water for any length of time.

Glad you finally mentioned that you would use a tarp on the concrete because I wondered what in the heck you were thinking as I watched! Good video and great advice. So now as your Occupational Therapist let me give YOU some advice. Don't stand on folding chairs girl! That is how broken hips are made! Safety awareness, safety, safety, safety. Difficult to fill the kids stockings when you are in a Rehab Center with a broken hip.

Very pretty! I think buying a 'Roundup" style pump sprayer might help spray water evenly without wearing your hand out, especially for those with arthritis.

I have to store my artificial tree in a building that gets quite hot during the summer. I have been afraid to flock it thinking that the snow might not hold up well in intense heat. You say your tree has held up for 6 years?

    • @Apexremoteworklife
      @Apexremoteworklife 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@nanettew7678 I bought my tree unflocked 6 years ago. I did a light coat of flocking to my tree ast year. I keep it stored in its original original box in my basement. I took it out last week and the flocking has held up well. However, I wanted a thicker coat of flocking so I added more. I also flocked some garland I have. I bought my 5lb bag of flocking/snobond from Amazon last year. I still have a lot left over.

I have the flocked 🎄 Christmas tree from my child hood. (I’m 45 now) As you can imagine I’m extremely attached to it and all the memories that come along with it! But unfortunately much of the flocking has come off. The past few years I purchased the flocking in a can to bring the tree back to life but this looks like it would be amazing to use! Thank you so much for sharing! I really appreciate it! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

My my my... I am so happy this video popped up in my feed, I have been endlessly looking for “the perfect tree” for about a week now, I need a 9.5ft flocked tree & didn’t realize how expensive they are. I’m looking at $600-$1,000 & although I can go out & buy it, I am way to cheap to spend that much for a tree I only use 1 month out the year! I’ve recently got really in to DIY’s and I have to say I am tempted to buy a green tree & do the flocking myslef... although I’ll have to check & see if green trees are that much less, or will it not be worth it since I have to buy a new one anyways... but this is amazing for sure for ppl who already have a tree. I’ll have to share this with my mom! :)

Its a struggle!

N M Agalte I recommend you mist the tree first, really fine mist then and while you mist you get your flour sifter and as the product is falling you mist it, this will cause the glue to activate and it adheres to the branches without so much mess and fall out. This makes it really pretty, let it dry in between coats to build the puffy fluffy snow on the branches. Totally wear a breathing mask this stuff is really bad for you to breath! I used it and that night my lungs were on fire. It’s not good to inhale this stuff! 🌲❄️🌨 happy flocking!

I tried this before but I did it layer by layer in each third of the tree. So while flocking the bottom third I flocked only the lowest hinge first while leaving the other branches tied upward. Then I kept lowering hinges as I went up. Made it easier for me so maybe you can try that when you flock your other tree so I doesn’t feel so overwhelming.

Stunning, and yes it is so messy but worth it! will you seal the tree? I've done this with snow bond for the past few years, unfortunately the flock doesnt stay and collects at the bottom of the tree bag once it is stored after the season. I'm going to try spray varethane or aqua net to see if it will hold better this year.

Good suggestion! I just didn't have one available might have been a little bit too much water though. Also yes in hindsight a cloth would have been a good choice. It cleaned up no problem though

The Mountain View Cottage Haley Estes ,
I really loved the tree you started with to flock because of the fullness and pine cones. Can you tell me the brand and where you purchased the tree? I’m going to do this in the summer to my tree for next year and order the 25 lb bag when it might be less expensive in the late winter/ early spring. Thanks.

Great video! I've been wanting one of those flocked trees for the longest but did not want to spend the money. Thanks for a plan!

By flocking the pre lit tree, how did it affect the Christmas lights?Did the flock cover the bulbs and dim the lighting? Did it still come out good?

I have a tree that has flocking on the lights. Doesn't effect the lighting at all.

@@catezaida8081 I agree. My tree was flocked AFTER they wired it with green cord lights, which actually looks awesome. Because of it the lights look more glowy and ethereal. Instead of intense little points of light they look like lights covered in snow and they glow. But it's no less bright!

The lights have to be on it or you'll have a mess trying to put them on. Looks great, covers the wires, diffuses the light, etc.

Did it affect the Christmas lights already on the tree?

I think I’d pit a drop cloth down. Water and flock will bond on the floor.
