So I have just tried this on a 10 year old laptop as proof of concept. It was originally Win8 but has been Win 10 for many years, but did not meet the stupid specs for Win11. My main desktop PC is more powerful but equally does not meet the official specs. It does everything I need so felt no need to upgrade beyond the impending withdrawal of support next year. Windows 11 now up and running on the laptop and all went exactly as per the video! So the desktop will follow!
just to add that when checking the language locale, it was set at EN-GB which is not an option (why do Americans see the world as "America" and "not America"? 🙂) but I selected EN International and had no issues retaining all files and apps
Got you beat. Used Rufus to install Win 11 on 17 yr old Dell Inspiron. What a great machine that was. Without programs loaded, it is amazing how fast win 11 boots on it.
Worked perfectly on an old HP Elitedesk 800 G2 mini-PC. Had it setup with a fresh Windows 10 using a local account sign-in. Was expecting the upgrade to force me to sign-in with a Microsoft Account, but to my surprise it kept the local account in place. Great contribution, much appreciated.
I've been using Rufus and Ventoy for a decent amount of time now and I never once thought to create a virtual drive. I already have tons of rescue images in one USB and I am already on the latest version of Windows, but I learned something new today. Granted, installing straight from a physical USB is probably faster.. But still. It's nice to know an alternative Awesome video man :D

I know, right. It's clever. This is not how I thought of a virtual drive, but I don't know why. I have mounted USBs for years and years. I think of mounting and running a virtual OS, not installing one back to the host.

The way i do it is to down load window 11 and copy it to a usb drive then when i put the drive into a machine and then open Command prompt and make sure you run it as Adminstrator then this next bit depends on what your computer tells you the drive letter of the USB, just say its "E" . Now type in the command prompt "e:\setup.exe /product server" then hit enter, you will now install Windows 11 and you dont have to create a Windows account. Using what i have just shown you means you can use the USB drive over and over again.

It works for now but Microsoft could put out an update at any time to disable it so don't get used to it. I tested it on several junk laptops and it works.
I was able to create the virtual drive per your instructions. I downloaded rufus and it found the new virtual drive, but the box to the right on your screen where you can click on "SELECT" or "DOWNLOAD" does not have the arrow to select the download option. The only option is "SELECT" and that does nothing. Any suggestions??? Love your style and clear instructions!
Thanks so much! You sure you downloaded the Standard version of Rufus right? Not the portable version? If yes, try using Version 4.4 of Rufus, not the new 4.5
Most interesting. I thought MS recent updates on Win11 was trying to kill off any unsupported hardware by executing some CPU instruction that only the newer CPU has. Will try this out soon on some ancient PC.
I tried this method & it worked great! One thing is that the Rufus 4.5 app would not allow me to download the ISO file. Had to do that from the Windows 11 download web site. Once done I pressed select & it took me to my download folder. From there everything worked great. Took several hours to install. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ CPU😊

You need to use the STANDARD version, not the PORTABLE version. Delete the Portable version and all of it's files (the Rufus config file as well) and download the Standard version.
My PC at the time of updating didn't meet the requirements for windows 11 but I updated the bios and then it did the CPU passed windows check but no PTM 2.0 within the bios setting so, if you CPU meets the requirements maybe check for a bios update first. because Microsoft have lowered the requirements to TPM 1.2 you could be in Louk with some older CPUs, but the way shown in this video is proven and works.

If yes, try using Version 4.4 of Rufus, not the new 4.5
Tried but hit a wall at ‘setup’: (4:37) “This app can’t run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.” 🙁
run as administrator
@@ZackFlairr Thanks I thought of that. Same result.
Is your current Windows installation 32-bit? That's going to be why.
@@memstechtips Thank you, yes. I did some internet spelunking and that seems to be why. Guess there’s no workaround eh?
@@AIainMConnachieunfortunately no, windows 11 only supports x64 processors and that can’t be bypassed
Most interesting. I thought MS recent updates on Win11 was trying to kill off any unsupported hardware by executing some CPU instruction that only the newer CPU has. Will try this out soon on some ancient PC.
I don't know I'm running it on 2 different unsupported laptops without any issues.
Thanks for sharing! Glad it worked for you!
Thanks so much for posting this!! It worked great!
Thank you lot for sharing this information. It worked for my surface pro 4 i7 6th generation 😊
very clear ,same said ,concise 5 stars , and thankyou
Perfect from start to finish, and an example of how a video of this type should be made. Thank you very much. 👋👋👋
What an excellent, well made and well annotated video.
Thank you kindly!
Been trying to find a way to upgrade my locked pc!
Thanks for the tip! Appreciate it! 😊
um I am encountering a weird bug... when I try to launch the setup.exe file (4:33) it does absolutely nothing. like nothing whatsoever. please tell me why this is happening! :(
Thank you, very simple and clear. Just one problem with Rufus that was blocked by Windows defender to copy files on virtual disk : I have to deactivate the folder protection.
Thanks for letting me know!
is there a reason you click "not right now" 4:45 ? instead of clicking the default/recommended settings from a clean installation user such as myself?
An excellent video, very concise.
Much appreciated!
Hi sorry to bother you but I'm stuck at 2:41 I click continue and an error comes up Error: A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'USeBasicParsing'. HELP PLS I followed every step to the T also my PC is windows 8.1 idk if that matters here.
How can this possibly work when windows 11 is not supported on certain processors? If you circumvent the processor test, you will end up with and unstable install if the processor cannot handle the required commands from Windows 11.
I haven't had any issues so far, but then again, I haven't tested it on every single piece of hardware. That's why I show how to go back to Windows 10, for those people who encounter such issues.
But your title said any PC, not just some PC
I understand, but would you have watched it if it said "some pc"?
@@nine7295well yeah, you can’t possibly think he means any PC ever made? You really going to try to install Windows 11 on an Apple II?
thanks to every one for your help i now have that laptop back working on win 10 great to get so much help many thanks to you all paul
I took the content of the usb open the iso file erase its content exept for the boot part and put the content of the usb drive and create a new iso, then tested in a vm for fresh install and worked thanks
Glad it worked for you!
Thank you for taking to time to make this instructional video- it worked flawlessly.
after booting up i get this error ,resample.dll missing from your computer. what to do. i followed the instructions you showed in this video step by step
Gotta be honest I have never come across that before, I don't have any ideas...
Thank you so much! This was very easy and exactly what I needed.
Glad I could help and that you found the video useful!
Thank you very much, your instructions really work!!
Awesome! Great to hear!
Hi there mine didn’t work I followed steps til 4:48 then it say pc currently does not meet requirements 😢
great video.. worked first time thanks 🥳
You're welcome!
Nice to know there is an easy way to do this and I might just try it on a really nice but older laptop that I have spare.👍👍
Try it and lemme know how it goes!
I have been waiting for this moment long time!! Thank you a lot 🙏
What a great video - the flow wa sperfect and the option expalined. Great stuff. Many people [yes many] have Copy and paste issues in 23H2 - are you aware of this issue ?
Thanks for your comment! To be honest, nope, I haven't come across those issues yet.
I don’t have issues with copy and paste here
Now look 👀 I just gave you a compliment about 3 weeks ago regarding how helpful your video has been, so I tried to install Windows 11 on a different pc & for some odd reason it’s not allowing these step by step instructions to work. Now my other pc is using Windows 8 so I don’t know what the problem is so could you help me out here?!?!?!
Very nice, it works, thank you 🙂
You're welcome!
@@memstechtips oeps, tried on my laptop. Didn't work. When I need to select te language (2:45 in your video) it gave an error message.
Maybe I could use the iso that I used for my desktop?
If not, no problem, I'll get the updates later in time. But it would be nice 🙂
You can also download the Windows 11 ISO file from Microsoft directly. Check the pinned comment.
Tysm I have been struggling one TH-camr made me catch a virus but I had a feeling that you would help me Ty so much dude
Brilliant video, very helpful and thankyou. My language choice in powershell is English UK but cannot find it so do I choose English International. Many thanks.
I had the same. Does the International option work without losing any files?
I think it should work perfectly fine!

Finally! I'll be able to put Win 11 on my 32 bit netbook! Thanks!
Lol, let me know if it actually works.
Yeah, he claims to install on "any PC" :D... what a clickbait title :P
Does windows 11 for 32bit devices even exist?

Very helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Love your channel learning and learned that many new things thanke dude
Serendipity brought me here ☺. I had to click the subscribe!
May I ask you please, as to whether this process will make my Win10, come Win 11 machine functional receiving security patches and updates from Microsoft in the future?
Thank you!!!
Hi there, yes as far as I've seen and used it, the updates still work.
@@memstechtips hello and a belated thank you for your reply.(somehow, the reply got lost among, other, messages) Cheers and much enjoy your quality content!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Once installed on a machine with a current supported version of Win 10, will all Win 11 security patches and updates be downloaded?
Yes it will, it's just future major versions that won't be upgraded automatically, you'll have to install it manually again like I show in this video.
Excellent tutorial. Worked exactly as described
Work well , Thanks
hi can you guide me my rufus does not shows download option
You need to use the STANDARD version, not the PORTABLE version. Delete the Portable version and all of it's files (the Rufus config file as well) and download the Standard version.
Worked So Smoothly. Thank you. 👍👍👍
You're welcome!
It worked great thanks...

Freaking Awesome! Great no-frills step-by-step.
Thank you sharing 🎉
You are so welcome
This worked perfect for me. Thank you for posting this video.
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
My PC at the time of updating didn't meet the requirements for windows 11 but I updated the bios and then it did the CPU passed windows check but no PTM 2.0 within the bios setting so, if you CPU meets the requirements maybe check for a bios update first. because Microsoft have lowered the requirements to TPM 1.2 you could be in Louk with some older CPUs, but the way shown in this video is proven and works.
I really can't be bothered with the system requirements to be honest with you, I just bypass it.
@@memstechtips I understand that fully. I just think there is an option to check with the board manufacturer to see if there’s any bios updates before doing anything else. Plus a bios update can solve numerous problems.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank u bro. I also upgrade my old laptop to win11
This went until I got to the language section. Nothing for English (United Kingdom)
You should use the English International version then! Let me know how it goes.
@@memstechtipsHello, I have a question:
My windows 10 is Spanish Mexico language, your procedure can work with this language?
Thank you for your video and time to create it.
Compliments on an excellent tutorial. Using ur vid as guide I was able to successfully upgrade a 10+ yr old Intel NUC D54250WYK w i5-4250U CPU and Intel Graphics HD5000 facing the brink on Win 10 to Win 11 pro. The only minor glitch was having to download the Win 11 ISO manually. There was no Select dropdown option in Rufus but otherwise all went smoothly. Everything working fine so far 🤞NUC is cutting edge once again 😊 Much appreciated!
UPDATE: Well the NUC Win 11 upgrade did not pan out, unfortunately. Initial install was fine, but today made the mistake of applying several Win 11 security updates and it trashed the poor little NUC. On boot-up Windows home screen was clocking endlessly with Task Mgr consuming 100% CPU 💩👎 Was fun while it lasted, but with all the malware out there I cannot run a machine without security updates. Back on Win 10 again til someone solves this gotcha. Tks
When Windows 10 expires, it's time to move to Linux. I am not happy with that idea,, but it's better than let some corporate POS take over your PC. Right now I have control of my Windows 10 install. I disabled a bunch of crap. So unless you can do the same to Win11, there is no reason to upgrade until Microsoft straightens up.
Amazing.! it worked fine for me and i use same mount to upgrade another computer. Thanks for the great idea. 👌
Thank you Im going to try that on my DEll laptop
You're welcome! Let me know how it goes!
Sir can I try for my laptop to install wind 11? My current version wind 10 64 bit 2nd gen.But b4 I chek my system there is showing your system not support wind11. Should I try or follow your video?
Yes, you can try and follow it and it should work fine!
Hey Memory, Im having an issue with my computer or something, i followed up until this point ---> 4:33 when i double click the setup exe nothing happens, theres a blue loading circle on my cursor but when i try again it doesnt work. any idea why?
Don't put Windows 11 on anything
I'm not saying you should do it, just showing how to do it. 😉
What about after support ends for W10 and software no longer updates shortly after that? May have to upgrade to W11 like it or not, even though I don't want to.
@@wesbtrm switch to linux

@@wesbtrmLinux.... If you need a win machine, keep an old laptop with win10 offline and use it for specifics apps that won't run on Linux. Most daytoday stuff can be down on Linux.

W11 sucks. Why would you want it.
Better than 8
Your db sucks why did you put it
Windows has always sucked
Does every PC that you wish to upgrade to Win 11 require a Win 11 product key? Does my pre-existing Win 10 product key suffice? If not, should I purchase the new Win 11 product key before implementing the instructions in this (most excellent) tutorial, or can I purchase it after installation? What does a product key cost? Can a key be used on more than one PC? Please advise. Thank you.
Windows 11 can be activated with a Windows 10 key. If your current Windows 10 is activated with a legal license and you follow this guide, Windows 11 should be activated automatically too.
If it's not you can always purchase a key afterwards, I have videos on my channel on how to activate Windows too if you need that.
