I know Sturm is supposed to have a kind of Darth Vader design, but something about his "giant bell wearing a hat and coat" shape just reminds me of Big Band instead
Fun fact, in the original advance wars 1, both clone andy and sturm used black pallete versions of orange star (without the skin), here clone andy keeps the copy designs with blue clone skin, while sturm now uses the standard black hole army deaigns introduced in aw2 I also dont consider 2 as consistently hard as 1, it just has some occassionslly tricky missions

41:30 All COs work. Andy is the best choice even. You need to use the chokepoint tactic(Block using Md Tank, Attack using Rockets, finish using Mech) on the mainland, send lander as bait/sub detector, Use the Sub for the naval units, and Battleship for Eagle's faults( when his bombers attack the 2 HP infantry instead of the Rockets). Supply using APCs and use the T Copter for HQ. This way, You can even Rout! Last time I did this with Andy, on the final day, I had both options, rout AND HQ. With Sami, you have better HQ capture, and her mech has more role in the chokepoint, while as Max, you REALLY depend on Eagle for Routing
Love the finale on this game. As painful as the final mission gameplay here was I'm pretty sure it was even worse when I was doing it the first time years ago, I didn't have the benefit of Max either back then and was forced to use Grit and Sami neither of which are very good for the map. Being able to freely choose your COs on this version makes this a whole lot less of a pain in the arse. Max is an obvious pick for the left hand size since he's so ridiculously overtuned and he has powerful aerial units too which I donno why vinesauce didn't really utilize, Mid tanks do take time to get into position so spamming them may not be the best idea, it's a good idea to mix in some anti-airs as well. For the right hand side I like Drake the best, his CO power is just darn effective against Sturm's massive army even if he cannot make use of his naval specialty here, it's free damage that also doesn't charge Sturm's CO meter and it puts a big dent on his finances too since he's going to be repairing a whole lot in the next turn). Way I see it Andy's better of just defending and trying to keep himself alive and have the other two COs be the main offensive force. More than anything though the mission is about minizing the damage caused by Meteor Strike, there's ways to manipulate it by placing a bunch of Mechs for example in a diamond formation away from the frontlines so it'll hopefully target them instead, you can also go to the CO screen and see how much charge Sturm has on it, he never uses it mid turn so if you see that he has it almost charged up you might want to consider holding back a bit so you'll gain an extra turn of non-meteor stike and then you can go ham since he's gonna have his full charge anyway, and obviously trying to avoid bunching up units too much when you know its coming is also important. All this goes even moreso for the Advance Campaign version too but if you've gotten there in the first place then you probably do know what you're doing anyway.
10:45 Navel combat against Drake feels underpowered because he gets 2 extra defense stars (so 20% more defense) than other COs. Which is really good for him, but annoying for everyone else. That and his power just makes games against Drake delayed a little longer, annoying for me.

Very enjoyable playthrough! To answer some of the stuff you said about AW2 at the end, it plays very different compared to AW1 - but it is not necessarily harder. The thing with AW2 is, that most maps have a clear trick / gimmick they are designed around that, if you can figure it out, makes beating them much easier. It helps that the original game didn't really give you much choice in an optimal western ally. You had Grit, who lacked the firepower boost to his indirects in the first game, Max, whose direct units were blocked off by that large mountain, and Olaf, whose Blizzard ability was a liability. So the western base was obvious fodder for Meteor Strikes (unless you got stuck with Sami on the east end). I was lucky enough to have Grit and Kanbei selected for me on my first go in the original game. With Re-Boot Camp, I always default to Kanbei and Eagle now that it's possible to do so.
AW2's campaign is for the most part easier than AW1 in my opinion. For one thing, you're not locked to Andy, Max and Sami. You get time to play as everyone along with some newcomers. Also, most of AW2's maps have specific themes or gimmicks to them which make them more interesting than a regular fight. There are still some hard fights (The factory missions, Showstopper, T minus 15, etc), but nothing as frustrating as Sami's Green Earth missions in AW1 (Fuck 'Captain Drake!' and 'Wings of Victory!' in particular).
