      look at Chris Reeves for awesome titanium. Benchmade is loosing it on the price. good knives but price is unrealistic. some are the price of complex firearms

    gosh I used to be a Benchmade guy but Zero Tolerance is really kicking their ass in terms of price and quality control. And blade steel! Hell!

      Spyderco is better than both .

    • @moonrunner8791
      @moonrunner8791 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PeterPiper Chaos not really. they're dropping off. their value folders are keeping the company a float. overpriced Chinese a d Taiwanese made knives are not appealing. at least Benchmade and zt are made in USA.

    • @peterisrael2012
      @peterisrael2012 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spyderco is still the best manufacturer in the business regardless of which country each knife is made in , and for less money as well .

    • @moonrunner8791
      @moonrunner8791 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea ok check any of the taiwanese made knives from spyderoco and come back to me. their flagship knives are all made overseas, and they are stupid expensive.

    • @peterisrael2012
      @peterisrael2012 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their best knives are made in Taiwan , way better quality control that ZT by far .
      It's not even a competition, spyderco still leads the pack by a far margin .

    • @shadeshiest22
      @shadeshiest22 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol no kidding! Seems like rebranded "looks kinda like a griptillian" designs and using the these days pretty much standard entry level s30v steel while slapping on an insane price tag like its some kind of new never before seen super premium s30v g10/aluminum knife... No thanks!!

    I wish he talked about the clips on each knife and if it can be repositioned for left/right tip up/down all around carry. Should be industry standard to talk about all features and price point

  • @showboat1556
    @showboat1556 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Benchmade, I sincerely hope you're reading the comments here. It's not all that often that a huge group of consumers literally band together and tell you what you need to do differently with your products to sell more knives. Read all these and take heed if you want to keep selling

  • @Dalessandroftw

    Want a bali? Get a BRS.
    Want a flipper? Get a ZT.
    Want an auto? Get a Microtech.
    Want a better knife for your money? Get a Spyderco.
    I like the 940 and Griptilian, but these prices are ridiculous, especially considering Benchmade's bad quality control as of late. Besides the Axis lock, they got nothing at these price points.

      +Aaron Daum i'm sorry man but my knives dont just cut paper , i usualy go on hiking trips with them , cut wood , prepare things to make a fire camp cook and it with it.
      S30V goes dull too fast .
      it is outclassed by so many other steel not much expensive.

  • @Corpsman5412
    @Corpsman5412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I like BM, but plastic inlays and rubber handles at 130 bucks? Or you can pay 500 dollars for titanium and s30v. My 180 dollar ZT has carbon fiber, s35vn, titanium, and ball bearings. I like my benchmade but these prices are just crazy for what you get. I'm not a fanboy of any company because I don't own enough knives to say what my favorite company is, but I'm just calling it like I see it.

      Well no kidding, how can there be??? The only thing they are selling are LEO automatics most can't leagaly buy.. and 600$ gold class safe queens. Talk about a middle finger to the EDC crowd.

    • @Dkguerilla

      @Corpsman5412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mark marion have you seen the new ZT 0055? That thing is a beast, and it's only 220 dollars, I don't understand why companies will charge 400-500 dollars for titanium, when ZT puts out titanium, s35vn, and other premium stuff for around 200 dollars. Not to mention, they collab with really talented custom makers.

    • @michaelbonade4667
      @michaelbonade4667 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Westcoast.....the 0055 is beautiful, has ZT's great fit and finish and yeah, comes in at $220(and its a collaboration to boot, ur right)......its Ti...but its no integral.......Benchmade is charging a butt load to run their CNC mills for sure...street prices will be lower ..we know that, but things have been getting pricey in knifeland over the past year or two....

    Shout out to Benchmade for trying to dance around the fact that the OTF's "look familiar" because they've just been taken from the now-discontinued H&K lineup and had their prices increased.

    I remember back when I use to buy benchmade knives.... Now its spyderco, ZT, and really anything else BUT benchmade it seems these days... My last benchmade purchase was an Osborne YEARS ago when they came out!! Would have probably bought a nakamura when it dropped a couple years back, but of course that insane price tag...

      It's an exact Ritter, fuck you Benchmade!

    • @WarrenSL
      @WarrenSL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I know, backstabbed. Ritter should have and still should collaborate with Spyderco. A Ritter Endura or Paramilitary or Manix would be sweet. Maybe an original design even.

    • @SailfishSoundSystem
      @SailfishSoundSystem 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not an exact Ritter. The handle is completely different shape and uses newer advanced materials.

  • @calebklyne6406

    I love Benchmade but they don't offer much value for the price

  • @zombiefighterof1987
    @zombiefighterof1987 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    For $600 i'd expect a superior steel than S30V, maybe N690/N695, hell, for that price it should have Elmax.

    • @SailfishSoundSystem
      @SailfishSoundSystem 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It should have been S90V!

    • @natsyrtm4223
      @natsyrtm4223 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea the only thing id consider n690 for is a razor blade.. takes a very smooth fine edge.... not a good working steel when compared to even 154 let alone s30v or higher grade lol

    • @VinEllis
      @VinEllis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      440C is not horrendous dude. Not as good as S30V but far from horrendous.

  • @C_Rice
    @C_Rice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    A lot of people hate on benchmade with their prices and yes they are expensive but I think it is worth it. The freek looks pretty cool I think but will have to hold it before I buy it.

  • @FarrYaweh
    @FarrYaweh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Maybe if they offered the 560/590 in D2 or M4 I would consider picking one up. Why would I buy another BM folder in s30v? he calls it a premium steel as if it isn't already becoming a run-of-the-mill blade steel, especially at BM's premium prices.

    • @ConnorLassiter
      @ConnorLassiter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It still amazes me that people don't understand that these prices stated in the video are MSRP prices. Theses are not what the buyer will be paying. MAP pricing is what most people will be paying at online dealers, which is always 15% off the original retail price. Also people will be able to find these knives for even cheaper in the secondary market on the JD forums, Facebook groups, and Reddit.

  • @DoctorJ1337
    @DoctorJ1337 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've been seeing a lot of other companies adapt and offer great value knives that compete with the Chinese market. But Benchmade is going the opposite direction. With prices like 500-700 dollars they are really alienating a huge portion of the matket.

  • @alaskankare
    @alaskankare 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would love to see someone help a novice like me understand what the quality differences are for a $30 knife I can buy at a store and this multi-hundred dollar ones? What is it that makes them cost so much? I know they aren't hammering these in a forge. They are usually just stock that is ground down? Any help would be appreciated. I would definitely say $145 is not MY budget friendly.

      Steel is only more expensive if you are talking about specialty low volume alloys. Your average 1095 carbon steel and even 300 series stainless is FAR cheaper per area than even low grade titanium.

    All these commenters complaining of price, yet they pay 1,000$ for a cell phone, 200$ for boots, 35$ for shirts, 50$ for jeans, 100$ for a pen, 200$ for a Casio GShock watch. You're basically walking around wearing 1,500+ worth of stuff. The stock market is at an all time high and Bitcoin is skyrocketing. If you don't spend 400$ eating out at fast food places for a month and switch to cricket wireless, you'll be able to afford the knife.

      While I agree the prices are high, these are all the MSRP prices. Customers will never pay that price. The online dealers will sale at MAP prices (15% off MSRP), and you will be able to find them even cheaper in the secondary market on forums and knife groups.

      Yes Benchmade has always used MAP pricing, and it has always been more than what they're worth in terms of materials, and design. Always much to be desired. But some swear by it so to each their own. ZT and Spyderco have much more ingenuity IMO

    • @ConnorLassiter
      @ConnorLassiter 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack Sin I've been on the Reddit, the JD knife forums, and Facebook groups for well over a year now, and I can honestly say fakes don't make there way into those groups. The people in those groups are pretty knowledgable of fakes, and don't mine helping if someone has any doubt. I wouldn't worry about an 87 clone anytime soon. Also I would say I see more Spyderco fakes than any other knife brand out there today.

    As usual very utilitarian designs at a rich gentleman's price point. Why a dual durometer fat grips when the knife obviously will be a safe queen because of the price? I will never understand your pricing structure Benchmade, never.
