Thank you for this. I just got one of these gifted to me, and have never used a brother carriage or machine. Your instructions give me what I need to get going on it.
Thank you, this was really informative. I was just given a 910, and as a hand knitter with no machine knitting experience, I was completely overwhelmed just looking at it! Feeling less intimidated and going to spend some time setting up and getting to know this machine now. :)
Get some very thin yarn and just mess around. Make little piles of raggedy swatches. You'll be learning the machine the whole time!
I finally pulled out my 910 and cleaned it up. It is new to me and I'm so thankful for you sharing your knowledge. A little laugh I did just a test moving the carriage across with it off and was confused why the needles did not move. Well it is the user being tired and no needles in work to move lol. Wish me luck.
I love my 910 too! Unfortunately my machine had a broken mylar reader, so I decided to 'hack' it. I bypassed the original electronics and connected an Arduino, so now I control it from my laptop.
I'm amazed at how reliable your lace carriage is with so little weight, mine tends to misbehave unless I use quite a bit of weight. You can also find a massive amount of mylar patterns online nowadays, like scans of the original Brother pattern books but also patterns people designed themselves and share.
I have a hacked 910 too! Do you use the AYAB board with your arduino? I love how it gives full bed control
OMG! I'm so jealous of your "hack." Would you be kind enough to explain how u did it? What do I need to do to bypass my blown electronics and use my laptop? PLEASE share?! I have an original 910.
Thats nifty!
Omggggg thank you!!! I am inheriting this machine and this video convinced me I made the right decision
Thanks Diana, Great Video! Will you be doing more videos on the brother 910 :) Would love to see this!
I picked up a 950, with the EC1. It's so COOL! Thanks, Diana.
the ec1 is for studio silver reed machines, not brothers.
@@davidlarson4422 You are so right! I got my EC1 with my SK860. DUH! After a while, they all run together. LOL
Ty so much! This really helps out. I just got my Mylar sheets and will see how it goes.
Most helpful and informative!
I bought one with the bed, ribber, knit leader, color changer and all the mylar sheets a few years ago but was still working full time. My future self has arrived and it is time to learn how to use it🤗. I had mastered my Singer 155 with bulky yarn and punched my own 12 stich cards but wasn't ready for the thin sock yarns yet. I am the only person I know of in Hawaii that machine knits 🏝👍🎉
Welcome to the fun! Be sure to check out my blog diananatters.blogspot.com for a lot of lessons and patterns.
Hi Diana I am moving to Florida and i need to get boxes to ship my machine do you know where can i boxes i would appreciated very much if you can help or advice me how to do it since you sell knitting machine i though of you thank you for all those video you put on line this is Raquel from Puerto Rico i don't know if you remember me when i started with my machine many years back you help me so much hope to hear from you soon you will always be my favorite teacher thank you for your time
I am NOT a dealer. I seldom sell a machine. However, you could ship using UPS or FedEx. Have THEM pack the items in their boxes and you buy enough insurance. Take photos before you give it to them. If they pack, they should take responsibility. Emphasize to them that the machines are very, very fragile. Do not hold me responsible for your shipping issues. I am not an expert, and I have had very bad experiences trying to ship a machine.
@@dianaknits Thank you Diana for you advise I would never hold you responsible for anything i asked for your advise how ever i am shipping 11 bother knitting machines i am moving from Puerto Rico to Davenport Florida and i can find boxes to ship them in so i getting some boxes to make my own boxes i am putting on the side form to help with the shock you know how it is when moving specially to another state any way thank so much for your prompt reply i do appreciated have a happy and bless New Years be safe
I recently had the opportunity to get such a machine and I got lots of comments that it was not reliable, that the mylar reader 'sucked', and that I should stay away from it; after watching your brilliant demo, I fear that maybe I should not have listened :-(
These machines were produced in the 1980s, so they are older than the other electronic machines available. It should not cost as much as one of those models, because Brother added features with each model. Sometimes they do go out. Whether you'd have a good experience depends on the condition of the machine. We gave this one a thorough cleaning, a new sponge bar, and oiled all the moving parts. We replaced some missing items. We testing it thoroughly - John ran diagnostics and I knitted with it. Also, if you get a used machine, make sure it is complete! Parts are expensive and some parts are getting rare.
@@dianaknits I have a 940 and a 260; I imagine I can do with the 940 what you do with the 910 ? I have not used the 940 yet; am reading the manual. I got a garter carriage for it and a Knitleader; I bought separately a ribber transfer carriage. I am soon moving to Canada to stay with my daughter for a year; I will probably ship my Passap (that I bought when I lived in Canada) - so will have to relearn how to use it. Now that I am retired I can at last spend time at doing things I love ! Please keep producing videos; you are a champion at explaining things. Don't feel you need to improve anything - it is just the technology that changed; but we don't need gimmicks like music in the background and such; you are systematic; your videos are the right length and speed. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge

What a neat machine!
Can you comment as to why all these wonderful machines are gone from the manufacturer(s)? What happened? Too many cell phones, what?
I loved your video! I'm hunting on eBay ... I'm in Illinois, so not many garage sales in December.
What I really want to do is make socks for myself. Do I need more than the KX-350 to do socks?
I am completely disillusioned with the circular machines, and decided I want a flat-bed.
Silver Reed still manufactures machines, and there are some companies in China as well. I recommend you look for a Japanese machine with a ribber. It needs to be standard gauge for socks - the Bro 350 will make too bulky a sock, as it takes thicker yarn. Email me privately, tell me where you live, and perhaps I can help with a club referral (almost all clubs have people selling machines) or a great dealer referral.
@@dianaknits I cannot find your email anywhere!
Wow, you have loads of info on your site! Which ebooks do not contain lots of girly stuff? Thanks!
@@dianaknits ALL links on the Silver Reed site are broken. Are they really still in
business?
BTW: My zip code is 61109
I know dealers and I know of three knitting clubs in Illinois. Please email me privately. diana_knits "at" sbcglobal "dot" net. This is not a good place for this discussion.
I have 2 of these in great condition but the card readers stopped working, I am so sad. Still knit with them and bought a 970 so I could still do the pattern knitting. Wish they could be repaired.
Please email me privately. I am interested in what went wrong. Sometimes my husband can repair them, but we are not going to want to ship the machine.
Hello there, sorry to post it here but I dunno how to do a post on the general channel on you tube.
I use a LK-150 for about 2 years now, my first machine to try if I was gonna like machine knitting. I love it !
Now I will like to upgrade and buy a new machine but I dunno anything about good or bad brand of machine I was wondering if you can give me any suggestion on a good brand.
I m from Canada, so I will need a machine that allow me to get part from Canada or US (I travel to US 4-5 a year). I will eventually want to add a ribber to it when my budget allow me to buy it and I will like to be able to use punch card and a lace carriage ( although I m not sure if lace carriage exist for bulky machine). I m looking for bulky machine ... Thank You!
It depends on your budget, of course, but Silver Reed is making new machines, but I don't think they are making new bulkies. Contact a Canadian dealer or a US dealer as close to where you live as possible and see if you can afford one. My favorite bulky machine is the Brother 270, which is only available used. The Brother 260 is also fantastic, and uses 24-stitch punch cards. If you email me with your location I might be able to help you find a dealer. My email is at my blog, diananatters.blogspot.com. There is an envelope icon down on the left-hand side.
I never used one, but very interested in having one ,
Bizimde aynı makinadan var ama kalıp yada model yerinin nasıl calistiracagimizi bilemiyoruz yardımcı olabilir misiniz lütfen
Hello thank you so much for your TH-cam videos! I recently purchased a Brother KH 910. I was told that it was in working condition, it’s very clean, but I am having an awful time. I can’t even get the carriage to run freely over the needle plate. Every time I try to make a pass it gets stuck
Do you have any suggestions? I would be willing to pay you for your time if you could video call with me so I could show you what is happening.
I have searched locally and can’t find anyone to service this machine I’m about ready to donate it to charity :(
I am a good knitter but NOT a mechanic. Do check the sponge bar. The needles should be held down tight against the number strip and not popping above it. The sponge strip is easily replaced and in fact needs replaced regularly.
@@dianaknits Thank you for the reply I was not expecting a mechanic, I was hoping as a good knitter you were familiar enough with the machines to tell me where to look. I connected with a very kind woman who runs a knitting machine site and we got to the bottom of it by sending photos back and forth. Thank you again.
@@jeanettemccullough1573 Well, I am always afraid I might now be able to help. I'm so glad you were able to get it working!
Do they still make machines like this?
This is an older model. New machines with different features are available from Silver Reed and Artisan.
@@dianaknits Thanks!
Dear Diana , happy new year, which lace carriage is compatible for the 910? Has the lace carriage a number or any indication to share with me, to be able to purchase one for my 910? I would highly appreciate your answer. Thank you 🙏
I don't have a 910 now that I could use to experiment, but I believe that all those electronic lace carriages from 910-965 were the same. Can anyone give more information on this?
Aqui no Brasil, gostámos do seu ensino, vc poderia colocar legenda em português, obrigada
Bună ziua, de unde pot sa achizitionez aceasta masina de tricotat !!!
can you tell me were i can fine extra needles and if there is any place that can repair electronics
For extra needles, I like to order from the Knitting Closet in Florida. They have a good website. For repairs, well, I don't know. You might go on the MK Facebook groups and ask. My husband does some repairs but we don't recommend shipping a machine. Where are you? If you are near one of the dealers I know, I would let you know. I sometimes teach out of town and John goes and fixes things, but it's tricky because he can't bring much in the way of parts (and we don't have a lot of parts).
Hi! Nice video! I was wondering do you know how I can put customs designs on this machine?
Custom designs can be drawn on a mylar sheet. You will have to work within the parameters of the machine's capabilities. If you want really large designs, for instance, 200 needles wide and long enough for a throw, you should look for a 940 or newer model Brother and get software (I like DAK) for putting the designs into the memory.
Hola me gusta mucho su video qué no hablo su idioma pero me gusta aprender donde puedo comprar la máquina como la sulla😄
Hey! I work in a repair shop in the UK and I'm trying to refurbish a brother electroknit KH-910. It didn't come with any pattern cards and I can't seem to find them online anywhere to buy. Is there an alternative that can be used?
They are hard to find, but check with Norman Korshak at Newtons Knits in Anaheim, California. He has a website. He has more obscure KM parts than anyone I know! Also, it is not ideal because the line markings are a bit different, but the Studio electronic mylar sheets are the same size and pinfeed. Those might be more easily obtained since Silver Reed/Studio still exports new machines.
Is the Knitking kk91 similar to this?
I really don't know The KnitKing machines were Brother with a different brand plate, but I do not know the model numbers that corresponded.
هل يوجد طاولة حديدية للمكنة
ام هو نفسه كفر او غطاء المكنة يكون هو الطاولة؟
One of my machines is on a wooden table. One is on a KE100 motor drive. Another one is on a steel tilt stand, which is not a table but more of a frame. The lid does not serve as a stand, but if you use a tilt stand it has brackets to hold the lid behind the machine, which gives you a place to put things. If you use a big, sturdy table, you can put the lid behind the machine.
how do the studio mylars work in this machine? i have sample of both and they seem to have the columns in different places.
The rows and columns are different, but if you have the brother numbers for your Studio card's design (and it's not off the margin) you can put them in. Hold a clear Brother sheet over the Studio sheet to get the numbers, top, bottom, left, right.
It is one of the most sought after machines at the moment by "hackers", because you can easily modify it to a machine with an AYAB interface to allow patterning from the PC.
Yes, although I have not done that. One of the strengths of this machine is that the electronics are simple. It was a popular machine and is still quite in use.
I am fascinated by this! Do you want to sell it?
I have several machines that I do want to sell. Please contact me privately and give me your location (they are hard to ship). Email me by going to my blog, diananatters.blogspot.com and clicking on the envelope icon down on the left margin of the blog.
Hi Dianna, How do I buy a new knitting machine in NH? Or where can I buy one?
Hi Sherry! If you are still looking for a new machine I am a dealer of new Silver Reed knitting machines. I ship all over the US but am based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
@@terrimartin3491 Hi Terri, I have a Silver Reed. What I do need is lesson on the program that came with the Silver Reed. Thank you
Hi Diana, Where can I by sliver reed machines ? thank You.
Try to find a dealer near you. Where do you live?
@@dianaknits I live in Montgomery texas. do you know somewhere close.,,
thanks for answering.
@@marybepeur7055 I don't know a dealer of new machines in Texas, but there are a lot of used ones in good shape. Email me privately? Over at my blog, diananatters.blogspot.com, on the left-hand side, is my email address. Let me know what you're looking for.
heb pas de machine maar vind geen uitleg over de instellingen voor hals te breien. Steken op E laten staan en dan terug opnemen voor de andere kant te breien
I don't have one of those anymore, but you can get a manual from machineknittingetc.com. On page 117 it discusses how to divide for the neck and then how to do it in pattern stitches. It explains how the CR button is used to get back to the pattern row where you divided for the neck when you knit the second side. I prefer to take the knitting off on waste yarn and then knit each side of the neck to avoid marks from working with needles in hold for so many rows.
HELP!!!! i can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong. I did exactly as you did at the beginning of your video when you cast on. All i get is the yarn laid inside the needles but not around the gate pegs. I can not get this machine to knit no mater what i try. My machine is a 910, same as pictured. the yarn is #1. I have 2 of these machines and both are doing the same thing.
First of all, do you need a new sponge bar? You need one if the needles do not lie flat against the needle number strip. I mean FLAT - no popping up at all. Secondly, have you looked at the beginner lessons I have free on TH-cam? I go over getting started in a lot more detail.
@@dianaknits Oh i have watched most of your videos. Thanks for the input. your right the sponge bars are completely shot. I have ordered 2 new ones. I knew if anyone could solve my problem it would be Diana Sullivan. Thanks tons.
@@travelswithdan6850 I've been told they only last about a year, but I always get more than that from good ones. The foam rubber would be shot by now...they wear out from age even if not used.
i have one for sale. that need to go like brand new
