Collapsus wow. This was commented about over a year ago. I still make sounds. This game is to fun. I try to make holy noises when i play a faith build.
The soul great sword wrecks bosses. I can use it four times and it normally slices half their total health after using all castings. My staff of wisdom is +3 and I just finished NG.
***** really, I didn't encounter any problems on my mage before ng +++ you just need to get the moonlight greatsword make it enchanted(not magic), and staff of wisdom max it out, and a 100% shield, then you are set! I wreck freaking havock on that char, I always 5-6 shot bosses even on ng+++
man i love the concept of the magic greatsword and the moonlight greatsword i like to imagine the enemies see an old guy coming and are all relieved and shit and the man just goes like "i shall beat you with the power of intelligence" pulls out a giant sword and just massacres the enemies
What i really like about dark souls 2 is that all the sorceries and hexes are released from the tip of the staff. Unlike in dark souls 1 and 3 where for some reason the spells are released from the center of the staff where your hands are holding it.
I think this was done intentionally because of how wonky the projectiles can be when they originate from the top of the catalyst. In general, the taller the staff, the further away from the target you have to be to hit them with a basic projectile. There's also some weirdness where a tall staff can target enemies directly below you, but a short staff cannot. If you've played the Convergance mod for DS3, you'll know what I'm talking about. Yeah, it looks a lot better and its more satisfying for a spell to come from the staff, but it adds a lot of clunkiness because of how the lock-on targetting works. Having projectiles originate from the caster's hand eliminates these variables.
@@sage94 Basically, if you _can_ handle the difficulties of what you've described as a suboptimal game mechanic, then you're left with a more aesthetically pleasing display of power that doesn't require much of a sacrifice on the player's behalf.

I love magic but magic in dark souls generally seems little poor. You need to cast same spell over and over again to kill an enemy which I can kill with 3-4 hit and even I am practically at the beginning of the game. It would run out of casts. There are people who does huge damages with spells, true but like in Ng++...+. It takes time, patience and a lot of work to make something out of magic, more than it deserves imo. Btw it could be very different for pvp, I am talking about pve. Maining magic seem like not worth it but using it definetly worthy and needed. Heals and buffs for exp. For damage magics, I do using them as spice, for difference. Specially pyromancy is not bad at all. Gotta put some spice :)
the advantage is you can stay away form enemys, but you cant do that all the time, and even if some bosses are easier to attack that way, some are also harder, for examplo, the last giant, because for him, meele is better, of course if you take up some strength and dex, you can use magic weapons, like for example, you can dual wield blue flame, and use moonlight greatsword as a secondary weapon, and have a shield just in case, and use the dark witch staff so you can use magic, miracles, and dark magic (including the ones that use a sacred bell). also have a pyromancy flame, nd you got a multi-use mage, you can fight in many different ways.
