me toooo lol i assumed dodging was just trash and hated dark souls 2 for it. then i found a new reason to hate this game. forcing me to blow 38 points on a stat to be on par with every other souls game 😂
ADP definitely seems like it increased the speed I drink estus and raise my shield. I was so used to DS1 where you could just hit L1 and block an attack at the last second I kept getting hit in DS2 because I was too slow. At 35 ADP I no longer have that problem.
I had the same problem! But my controller is broken, so I thought it had something to do with that, but it definitely dissapeared after i lvl'd up ADP.
Also, I know it hasn't been confirmed, but I'm positive it increases your invincibility frames as well. With 35 ADP I roll through attacks that definitely should have hit me. It is more apparent with larger weapons, like the Drakekeepers with the large hammers, because you can see the weapon clip you but you take no damage. It's a beautiful thing.
i talked to someone else, maybe it was one of you guys on kotaku or psn about a guts build. i'm currently using the first ultra great sword and the move set is so damned good.
The PVP level absolutely have to be raised around 140-160. Most stats in DK1 were multipurpose. While in DK2 each stat seems to increase only one or two different things. E.g. in DK1 endurance was stamina + equip load. Now equip load has its own stat. We will have to invest more stat points to get viable builds.
Very nice video. It's worth mentionning that attunement not only raises the number of spell slots you have available, but also the number of casts per slot! This can be extremely helpful for powerful spells or miracles that come with only a few casts at low attunement, like buffs.
Adaptability adds 2 invincibility frames at most until like level 99. It does not increase your roll speed, and does not increase your shield raise or attack speed. It only increases the s and the speed of estus drinking. You also need to raise it side-by-side with endurance to get natural poise.
The wall of information when you first lookup the stats menu made my brain freeze. You made it all simplier and I thank you for that. Nice video! I Liked it!
Thanks Oro, i will use this information well when Dark Souls comes out here in Norway on march 14th, it's unfortunate that i have to wait, but i'm willing to wait for this wonderful piece of a game!

Also ATN also increases the amount of castings for each spell, be it miracle or sorcery or hex. Each spell has its own break points at certain levels of ATN.
Sorry if either have been mentioned before but, don't forget about 2 things... 1 - ATN has a small effect on AGI, too. Not sure the real #'s, but feels like 1 point every few levels. (But I haven't leveled it above 20 yet) 2 - There are now 9 stats overall, which greatly increases max level compared to the first 2 Souls games, as those only had 8 different stats (not counting Humanity) Great video, though. Thanks!
Effectively 7 stats in Dark Souls, because literally no one used resistance. This also isn't considering how carry weight and stamina are two completely different stats as well.
I've only met 1 person who was near lvl150 and that was in NG, after that everyone goes right up. SM really fucked up PvP - at lvl150 you can fight lvl400's depending on SM which can really pressure some people to lvl up so that their stats are higher
PVP in dark souls is a joke, and always has been.. due to the fact that only certain types of builds are actually viable.. also there really isn't an option not to use a melee weapon.. also in ds3, a person who makes a complete caster build with no use of melee is instantly rendered defenseless using vow of silence. Ultimately whoever wins in pvp has a lot less to do with meritocracy or individual player skill, and a lot more to do with who has the more powerful build, and more numbers of allies. In other words, whoever has the most unfair advantage.
@@terrythompson7535 well that's not it in ds2. Literally every weapon was. Nerfed. There are still OP weapons but skill ALWAYS trumps cheesy builds. I'm pretty sure skill can get you far in any ds game overall. So how about you practice instead of blaming the game

On agility changing roll speed, Emarrel tested that at varying levels of agility with nor equipment and got, if there was any difference, only the smallest fraction of a roll speed change. Action speed changing is legit though.
Attunement will also up your agility, and because agility effects how fast your animations are it also means that both attunement and adaptability effect how fast you use items ie estus flask, crushing life gems basically ANY consumable item that has an animation. I used to not understand why estus healing was soooooo painfully slow in this game, turns out it was because i was running around with only 6 ADP because in the early stages of this games popularity there was a notion going around the community that ADP was "a wasted stat" until we realized exactly what was involved with it. Mostly due to a pretty vague description of said stat.
LIBERTYorD34TH I never used ADP until one of my friends saw the issues with my rolling and was like “that’s why you still get hit during rolls” I thought ADP is like resistance but I still went through the game at only 8 lol Game: you can roll well now Me: yeah Game: and what did it cost you? Adaptability doesn't stop the agility going up at 38. Since attunement also goes to agility, you can have more attunement, less adapt and still get 110 agility (almost maxed). I have 30 attunement and 33 adaptability, but 110 agility.
Holy shit, the size of that sword. A Dual-Wielding High DEX/ADP is definitely going to be my first build. One of my weapons will for sure be the Blacksteel Katana. I think Vaati said something about Pyro now scaling with INT/FAI.. I hope that doesn't effect spell effectiveness for non-magic types. If not, I'm throwing it into the mix. Also, Peeve said the PvP level would probably be 120. Ha. There are too many good, almost required stats this time around.
Don't worry too much about putting points in a 'wrong' stat. You can respec your character after you gain certain item ( probably somewhere in mid to end-game). So experiment, have fun, and enjoy.
thanks for the tips, I wasn't really sure how all the levels worked out and what would and wouldn't cap. I hope the PVP "level cap" in this game is closer to 150-200 that way we can all use better builds with more versatility (Melee+Faith/Int) but we'll see what people decide to run around in.
I hope it's higher too, just by judging how Hexes work and how much faith AND intelligence they require to cast and use some catalysts. Factor that in with needing the health and endurance to not be so squishy and maybe even the strength and dex to wield some of the weapon catalysts, I can see builds like that reaching 160 - 170 easy.
Phats Mahoney Though pvp builds are about fitting all your needed stats into the smallest package, so I can see people using spices to drop the requirements for some spells and using light armour to drop there needed equip load to fit into the needed pvp level if they want to run a duel build like hexer or str/faith and such. Straight pvp build will work better and I think most people will just run that with some pyro seeing how it can almost one hit people now and stun them.
Phats Mahoney My Hexer build is currently SL 130 or something and I've only focused on FTH, INT and ATN. All of my other stats are insanely low. (12 STR, 10 END, 9 DEX. Everything else is 6)
Mads-Emil Jensen and that's the downfall of those builds, unless you use spices to lower spell requirements you will find it hard to make a hexer build using all the high level spells.
***** Without spices, trying for that miracle that requires 65 faith would equal a rather squishy PvP build. I just think the community could stand to raise the cap so there's more room for experimenting AND making a solid character so fights aren't won based on someone taking advantage of another's slip-up and having the fight end after one 2 handed attack or a backstab.

***** summoning and PVP and et cetera isn't determined by SL anymore, but by overall collected Souls. So people talking about a PVP level... I don't know why.
Hubert Nineteen I've heard the opposite actually. I heard about quite a few people running into people at level 500 so I don't know where you're getting that information.
the facts that apparently you can fast roll really easily and that adaptibility and endurance are synergic by giving you poise worries me a little about pvp... the combination of these three stats seems to be so much more powerful than any other combination...
You missed one extremely important aspect about equip load. It also affects stamina regen significantly. 30% equipload can fully recharge stamina by 1 sec faster than 60% equip load. It may look silly, but 1 second is huge deal in dark souls.
What you don't realize is that this video was made the same time the game was released. Also, you can't say it reduces stamina recovery time by about 1 second when it may reduce total recovery time by 2.5 seconds if you had 225 stamina as apposed to half a second with 100 stamina. (By the way, I made those times up because my point was you didn't reference total stamina.)
David Vas I do realize that video was made long ago, but why don't YOU realize that I'm just updating information to old videos? And 2nd part you are just being an idiot. So, no response.
David Vas It's just an expression dumbass. I meant to say vitality affects stamina regen quite amount. Do you even engrish? try to understand the context a little bit?
***** What I'm trying to tell you is that you may be trying to update old information but you're giving a rough estimate rather than a comparative rate. Do you even scientific reporting?
something tells me level caps will be from 150-200. 200 sounds quite high, but it really could depend on the type of character. Mages have it tough this time, yes spices bring spells down and they aren't hard to get, but even getting int or faith to 40 for the damage scaling still leaves much less room for other stats. there are some of the weapons as well that can work better with an int build that have quite high stat requirements. I'm working on a build around a magic infused dragon rider twinblade (I know this weapon is quite overly popular right now) and using magic buffs on it. I put the build at 200 to use some hexes as well, and I can't invest much less without becoming a horribly squishy mage. Among stats that are ignored in my build are adaptability and somewhat of vitality. Most might wonder about uniqueness in sets at these levels, and (if they fix poise...) I can see some tank builds coming from high vigor, vitality, stamina, and adap setups with what ever power stat they need and still end up around sl 175.
Adaptability doesn't seem to be that necessary. At 24 I have 99 agility and can roll through most things, but I can also roll through most things at 8 adp too. It lengthens the roll but the beginning of your roll is always invincible anyway.
very informative. if you have the time can you also do a video focused of cast speeds? that would be very helpful and i dont have enough time to or the equipent to check the differances/worth
If it helps allot of the guys on some of the forums think 175 would be a good PvP soul level since it would be high enough to get the "basics" needed, and enough points into 2 weapon stats to make hybrid builds (whether thats a melee+cast or a straight out Q-build) but not high enough to make a "does everything" build.
Is it possible to do a comparison on the ADP stats(from a low level ADP to a higher level ADP)?? I m sure everyone would love to see the difference between low ADP and higher ADP.
Is there any info yet on multipliers like when 2-handing? Will 2h at 27 str effectively be 40 str again? Also is weapon AR affected by the dual wield power stance at all? And finally do we know poise breakpoints at all yet? Also great video, very informative.
ATN affects AGL the same way ADP does, yes? I went with a Bandit start and had initially wanted to use faith/dex but decided against it because i wasn't sure if the 8 points I would need to invest in ATN would advance my character at all. I could still use Pyromancy as I ended up going for a quality but only if leveling up ATN will add to my AGL the same way ADP will. I don't see why not, but if anyone could offer some assurance, that would be great.
I've been playing a while now and I'm certain boosting vitality will help you roll farther. And I'm not quite sure about adaptibility, it seems that all it does is help you drink estus faster and use lifegems and all consumables faster.
I really don't find Adaptability to do to much for me, I guess im not noticing on my heavy build, im using a greataxe and the pursuers greatshield, no real armour yet cause im still levelling, but I had to respect cause that skill wasn't doing me any good, I guess I wasn't rolling enough for it to help and in pve I had no problems and pvp I would always 2 hand and just rush them and stun lock to win, so I had no need. maybe its my play style or its just that in the eyes of some this skill is pointless, I feel your better off putting those points into equip load to get a better roll distance and more armour.
Nesode BlackKnight yer I find if I get most my main stats to 20 im good to go with beating all the bosses in the game, in dark souls you would find yourself stacking stats to just survive.
Honestly, the diminishing returns for stat-raising are more important in -high-level- PVP than it is for PVE (challenge runs of many kind always welcome gimped end stats for bragging rights).
Well, you could reallocate your stats with the Soul Vessel back at the beginning of the game with the old ladies in red. I'm doing it tonight, but want to make sure I'm doing it right this time.
Joe The AbyssWalker some weapons need 50 str but unless your build is around those 40 is good, I got a greataxe build with 40 str and I can deal close to 2000 crit damage.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was scared of starting any DS2 character without knowing the breakpoints, now I know exactly what my first build will be. Isn't there also some way to reset stats? I remember someone saying that a while ago.
honestly, you should push the break points. As he said, he doesn't know when people are going to stop leveling. Its a stupid idea to stop anyways, give the game a couple months before assuming that the meta-game will mean anything. I prefer pvp at level 60-70 in DkS because most people have their builds optimized at that point without just filling in Vit.
True, and my first build in DS1 wasn't even optimized for PvP by any means. I'll probably wait a while when the meta-game becomes meaningful before making PvP builds again.
You can obtain an item somewhere near the starting areas that can be given to the Firekeepers at the start of the game to reset your stats to base levels. You might actually be able to change your class, as well, but I don't know.
Hey Oroboro! What you think about ADP now that there are lots of people saying that ADP is the new resistance and that VIT is a better choice because VIT = Better Armor + better roll. Poise got nerfed, shields got nerfed, rolls got nerfed, backstab got nerfed, but... guard break is very interesting, spells got buffed and Whips are something...strong. What you think about dark souls II new metagame? Edit: i realy think that SL 130 is more than enough in DSII. Sure, we have less points than in DSI, but there are things to compensate, like using 4 rings!
I was hoping they would have kept the changed resistance stat that increased block-stamina efficiency and bonus, well, resistances. So, I could make op fat-rollers hahah.
Now I feel like an idiot for thinking ADT was useless. and poring points in to dex, and str. If you see this Oroboro Thank you for the tips, and advice.

David Vas I do realize that video was made long ago, but why don't YOU realize that I'm just updating information to old videos?
And 2nd part you are just being an idiot. So, no response.
What do you mean, stamina recovery is a rate of stamina per time not automatically -1 second off total time. Do you even Mafs?
David Vas It's just an expression dumbass. I meant to say vitality affects stamina regen quite amount. Do you even engrish? try to understand the context a little bit?
***** What I'm trying to tell you is that you may be trying to update old information but you're giving a rough estimate rather than a comparative rate. Do you even scientific reporting?
Thank you. This is the kind of stuff i wanted to see from VaatiVidya, but i guess he's too busy trying to "kindle the channel".
Thanks again.
goddamn why do i have to be a part of the pc mustard race
Our time will come, and when it does; We're going to DATA MINE THE SHIT OUTTA THIS GAME.
Akira toyomata God yes.
PC MUSTARD RACE
extremely helpful. looks like magic users are going to have tough time deciding their builds
I love how fucking HUGE the greatsword is now. I grinned like a moron when I picked it up. XD
thanks for telling me what the games tutorial told me
something tells me level caps will be from 150-200. 200 sounds quite high, but it really could depend on the type of character.
It lengthens the roll but the beginning of your roll is always invincible anyway.
its increases the speed of other actions as well, like for example drinking a flask and raising your shield etc
I know, those are useful. I think 38 might be overkill, at 20 I can raise my shield while I'm stunned.
***** i dont know if ur talking about PVE or PVP. but time will tell if u will need that 38 soft cap when it comes to PVP and lag
There is very little lag in PVP. It's almost 1 to 1.
***** Wait for PC before you claim that.
whoaa so many things I thought I knew and almost everything wrong haha .... thanks for the video now imma start a new game and try it
Man, this is good stuff, i cant wait to play DS2!!!
thanks for the spoiler free and very helpful video brandon
very informative. if you have the time can you also do a video focused of cast speeds? that would be very helpful and i dont have enough time to or the equipent to check the differances/worth
That's too high, you won't be making any sacrifices.
TheInevitableAir yer those feelings have changed since.
Oh god adaptability only run.
Is it possible to do a comparison on the ADP stats(from a low level ADP to a higher level ADP)?? I m sure everyone would love to see the difference between low ADP and higher ADP.
I love that music in the background. Remind me of the Nexus from Demon's Souls. Come on Amazon.. hurry up with that delivery!! I want my game!! :D
lol its the character creation music from dark souls 1.
There will be no sleep tonight.
Great video, very informative, keep up the good work Oroboro! ^^
Good to know. I had been wondering about this.
thanks for the work put into this
Is there any info yet on multipliers like when 2-handing? Will 2h at 27 str effectively be 40 str again? Also is weapon AR affected by the dual wield power stance at all? And finally do we know poise breakpoints at all yet? Also great video, very informative.
27 STR 2h = 40 yes
No idea about power stance, still a very hazy area for everyone that needs more testing
The highest poise break is 70
ATN affects AGL the same way ADP does, yes? I went with a Bandit start and had initially wanted to use faith/dex but decided against it because i wasn't sure if the 8 points I would need to invest in ATN would advance my character at all. I could still use Pyromancy as I ended up going for a quality but only if leveling up ATN will add to my AGL the same way ADP will. I don't see why not, but if anyone could offer some assurance, that would be great.
Invaluable early information.
Thanks a lot for the tips, it helped me very much :)
So helpful! Thanks for uploading
i've seen lots of 150s. According to many people on darksouls fextralife wiki--it's 150
I've been playing a while now and I'm certain boosting vitality will help you roll farther. And I'm not quite sure about adaptibility, it seems that all it does is help you drink estus faster and use lifegems and all consumables faster.
Best part of Dark Souls 2, you may ask?
The answer is: Capes.
The addition of capes is the best part... literally made me squee when I found out.
Great guide this helped me a lot
Thank you so much for the info, Oro!
Yes i learnd something, subscribed and liked! :)
Extremely helpful, thank you.
Very informative, Brandon. DatSheffy
This video is pretty good, almost Must-Watch O.o
Also, I love those low breakpoints for some stats :P
Nesode BlackKnight yer I find if I get most my main stats to 20 im good to go with beating all the bosses in the game, in dark souls you would find yourself stacking stats to just survive.
Honestly, the diminishing returns for stat-raising are more important in -high-level- PVP than it is for PVE (challenge runs of many kind always welcome gimped end stats for bragging rights).
Bless your soul for this
The stats start to drop around 40 yes, but 50 is where it just softcaps
damn i got my str up to 50 thinking i would need it for some of the weapons like the black knight great axe and smough's hammer from the first game
Well, you could reallocate your stats with the Soul Vessel back at the beginning of the game with the old ladies in red. I'm doing it tonight, but want to make sure I'm doing it right this time.
ya ill probably do that but ill stick with my mistakes until NG+ so my first run is still blindish
Joe The AbyssWalker some weapons need 50 str but unless your build is around those 40 is good, I got a greataxe build with 40 str and I can deal close to 2000 crit damage.
Gyrm greataxe requires 50, you can get it buy spending a certain amount of souls in Gavlans shop and then talking to him, he will give it you.
DeepbloodFang Dragon's tooth, son. Be a proper Havel.
Wow it really helps me a lot… thank you…
This was so helpful. Thanks.
hey oroboros if you use the knight class you will have 4 ATN and 3 INT which would give you more points to spend on other stats
this is really great
I really hope the PvP soul level isnt 125 like it was in DS1... I've done calculations and most builds that look appealing are around 150-175.
It should be lower than 100 so that there is actually some variety in what people use.
It will never, ever be lower than 100 in this game. Actually, from what I've seen. A lot of people agree with what I stated.
Thank you dude this really helps a lot
Thanks? Even though this is the latest reply I have ever seen...
Heh, np I just found it funny.
Just what i needed, thanks!
that was very informative thank you oroboro
Thanks for the upload.
